Just How Fast Is It?
 

Alright, we all know that bits are kinda peppy out of the box (some more than others) to the tune of 1.9 mph (with a 2.2).
But here is my question Just haw gfast does your bit go? My clone with a 3.0 and 2 cells cruises along at 4.1 mph (thats with the stock gearing, taller ones on order from tiny). I want to know what you have and how fast it really is. No BS please, this will be the best way I think for newbies to decide which mods to do first. With all of the different combos people are running this should be interesting. Oh, I almost forgot, the easiest way to measure your car's top speed is on a treadmill. Just remember a bit is approx. 1/70 scale so 11 mph is MACH 1, lets break the bit sound barrier.

Ok here is my 287 scale mph bit.

how else can you check your speed? is there a way you can count tire rotations or something? could i measure distance vs. something to get my top speed?

i'm getting about 3.2 with my MS and a 2.6.
i'm using my treadmill right now(that's all i have to check speed)

hmm ill have to measure but im guessing about 6 or 7mph with dual batteries suspension springs and a modified rear axle holder.
ill do the math and get back with you guys in a while.



**note fast doesnt mean everything cuz this thing is hard to control**

If you have a way to accurately time the car over a measured distance, maybe these numbers will help (if I did the math correctly):

8.8 feet/sec=6.0 MPH
4.4 feet/sec=3.0 MPH
2.2 feet/sec=1.5 MPH
1.47 feet/sec=1.0 MPH

you still need to steer some in a drag race. see my reduced turn radius thread. i havnt had a chance to fully test this yet.

so like how exactly do you test it on a treadmil??? i have one but i dunno how to do it....would be pretty cool to know how fast my bit is actually goin!:D

i can measure wheel rpms but that doesnt always translate into actual speed. also if you test a car from stop to finish that wont tell you what the top speed actually is. i think later im gona measure out 5foot on the floor and start the car about 5foot in front of the 1st marker and time from when it hits the first marker until it hits the second one and calculate that speed.

1-ya need 2 people
2- your car shold be able to go straight

get some one to control the tredmill's speed control, and your self to control the the car.
1- get the tredmill running at a slow speed (let say ~1mph).
2- place the car on the middle of the belt and hold down on forward.
3- keep on adjust'n the tredmill's speed untill the car stay in one place on the tredmill
4- read the speed on the tredmill

I dont know how accurate the treadmill idea would be.
just mark off a 5 foot space, like with 2 pieces of tape. Time the car through the tape, and then do some calculations

yeah.....but you would need a place to get up to speed, cause the low gear ratios need time to acclerate, cause if you don't, it would be inaccurate..........

yea, you would have the car going at full speed when you go through the timed area. thats what i meant. if it wont get up to speed before it goes out of range, follow it around and have a friend time it through the timed area.

one of these days my friend is gona build an optical timer. thatll be about as accurate as you can get.

i just got an rx-7 (blue), and i decided instead of a dual rechargable mod, i went for a single Radioshack 6v lithium battery mod. IT SMOKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Real time in a couple minutes

I thought the McDonalds logo looked good, Any how, I just got a 4 AA holder from Radio Shack to make the 4 cell charger, i will solder it up tonight and peak my car to see if it helps.

i need a decent paced jog to keep up with mine. No idea how fast it is though. My parents must wonder about me jogging around my kitchen following my car......lol

any comments on my car would be much desired!!!!!!

LOLOL THAT CRACKS ME UP MACH 1 no im not making it like your wrong that i may sound scarchastic

First off, Fuzzy nice car, may i suggest that you tighten up the wires going up to the battery, but other than that, nice ride!

Second, I started this thread at around 4 in the morning so my brain was farting alot.

Third, I guess the Mc Donalds logo will go the way of the do-do.

just from a math perspective. The longer the distance you time the more accurate the calculated speed. Five feet isn't that great of an idea IF you have more space avaliable. If not, whatever works!

Some cars only have a range of 5ft, do the best you can.

just follow the car til it hits top speed.

my subbie with a dual cell hit 245 scale mph,
and the bone stock bB hit 189.. That's faster than the mcdonald's car earlier topped out on. How could a stock car go faster than a custom car?:confused: :confused:

yea, thats exactly what everyone said. You would be going at full speed through the timing gates.
