Anyone put rear wheels on front hubs???
 

Has anyone put their rear wheels on the fron hubs like the mod in QFM??? If you have can you post a pic???

I just finished putting rear wheels on the front hubs on a OEM Toyota bB and I also put front wheels on the rear axel of an OEM Honda Accord.

I practiced on the OEM's because I didn't want to mess up my Bits!

Anyway it wasn't to hard to do. The hardest part was getting the spacing correct so the wheels would be in the right positions.

I'm still having problems with the steering on the Toyota. The big front wheels occasionally get stuck on the wheel wells when turning. The Honda has no problems!

hey DriveWRX the mod does look real cool. I think i'm going to be doing that to my Bit Char-g when i get it, i'll just use the OEM Bullets wheels. Thanks for the pic to.

DriveWRX i forgot to ask a while back.what did u use as a spacer for the other wheel without the spacer??? I'm talking about the wheel that was opposite to the gear side of the rear axle. Thanks!

How's about a nice and easy mod of taking the front wheels from a ZipZap and putting them on a Bit?

Namuna How does the bit handle with the Zip Zap wheels??? I was thinking of doing that also, but i already have another set of wheels ready for this mod, and i wanted black wheels.

The front wheel wells are too narrow to accomidate the new, bigger wheels so running it this way ain't no good.

But once I took the body off and ran with just the chassis, it works great. It holds a nice SOLID straight line (with the stock front wheels the car always veered to a side).

So, my next mod is to take the dremel to the wheel wells and all should be peachy!

I wonder if a body with a bigger front wheel well will do better......i have a clone gloria body and it seams to have a larger front wheel well.

whats the easiest way to take off the rear wheels from the axle?
cant seem to get them off without using force....

also what looks better, all front size rims or all rear size rims? im talking diameter wise

Are you talking about the Bits or ZZ? Cause with the ZZ there's no reason to remove the wheels from the rear axle, cause they're the EXACT SAME SIZE as the front wheels.

Again, not sure if you're talkin about Bits or ZZ...Either way, my vote is for the rear-wheel size diameter on all 4 wheels.

i haven't done that and i don't think i will. because if you use larger front wheels, i would guess that the steering response won't be as fast because of the larger contact patch to the ground and the extra weight of the larger wheel...

but i could be wrong since i didn't do that mod. just my "educated guess"

I got bigger and wider wheels/tires on my 323i and its harder to turn now. but more stable at high speed and corners

I'd answer you earlier but I was on vacation!
Anyway, to asnwer your question about spacers...

I used small diam. aluminum tubing made by K&S, I think (avail. @ your LHS). Just cut it to the lenght needed and slip it over the axel, between the hub and the chassis.

Oh, by the way, cut the tubing using an X-acto knife. Press down gently and roll the tubing under the blade until it cuts (watch it...the small pieces tend to fly off as you cut! :( )

My bB, in the picture, has a whole new look to it. It's now black, is lowered in the front, has a muffler and an opened grill with real mesh. It's still being worked on. I'll try to post pictures when it's done! :D

Hey DriveWRX thanks for the reply!!! Its cool that u asnwered a bit late just glad u answered!!:) Well thanks for that info i'll try and see if my LHS has the tubes (i'm sure they will). one question though, did you have to do any modifications to the rims themselves??? I noticed that the rim CLOSTEST to the gear on the axle (gear side wheel) has "spikes" that go into the gear itself. I was wondering if you cut/dremeled those out. I also noticed that the rear wheels are wider than the stock front wheels, did you have to do any kind of dremeling to get them to fit? I know that the wheels on the opposite side of the gear has that step on the inner side, and i was thinking that i can just dremel that down so its flush with the outter rim of the wheel. One last question.....what size drill bit did you use??? I've tried several small bits but they seam to big and i end up breaking the center of the rims when i try to drill it (good thing i was testing it out on clone rims :p . Well thanks again for you help DriveWRX!!!

I did trim down the "step" on the opposite wheel.
I didn't do anything to the gear-side wheel except drill it.

Speaking of drilling ... I used a really small hobby drill bit and a pin vise. I don't remember the exact drill size but I'd guess 60. (These items can also be found @ your LHS). When drilling with a pin vise, use just enough pressure to remove material and go slow. Too much pressure will cause the "blow out" you mentioned.

I didn't even notice the the rears were wider than the fronts!

Honestly, I would do this mod only for looks. You loose a lot of turn radius because of the big wheels up front!:(

hey DriveWRX thanks alot for the help, i may not be doing that mod then if it craps out the turning radius (well maybe for looks :D ) I'll try adding on some Zip Zap wheels. How much of a loss in turning radius do you loose?

i put on teh zipzap wheel on my bit today and you dont loose any turn radius at all in fact it makes the turn radius better because the front wheels act like a differential since the wheels are bigger then regular in the front when you turn left your left wheel catches on part of the bit and stops the right wheel willl keep trying to move so you take extremely tight turns get what i mean? i decided to leave teh zipzap wheels on my bit because i like the turning radius it wont work well on the skyline body too well the lancer body seems to have the best wheel clearance

What do you mean "catches on part of the bit"??? Does it catch the bits chassis or the body??? I don't want the wheels getting locked up on anything. If its the body that's ok...i can always dremel some stuff from that, but if its from the chassis, i don't want to start dremeling that. So can u tell me where it "catches" thanks!!!

it catches on the chassis it doesnt effect anything with speed why dont you just try it out for yourself you cna always put the original wheels back on if you wnat try it see how youy like it

i'm trying any thing i could find on my bit....leds..tires.white-out..etc) it's comming cool
