That's pretty damn sick. I like the custom gear set up. But you for sure gotta get a new body cuz a Toyota soccer mom car just isn't pulling. How bout a hummer body or something? Very nice work tho!

eyebee127 01-14-2003 03:26 AM

dope

tight man...excellent job. can we take a look at the chassis? or maybe a tutorial? i've been wanting to make a monster truck...but all my attempts failed.

Spanky 01-14-2003 03:52 AM

to resize in photoshop go to image. then image size. select pixels the put in the 640 width 480 height. then save. try that. your pic now is somthing like 860x680... the 640x480 seem to fit pretty good for pics in posts.

btw thats awesome.. you need that A-Team van cap that someone made on that thing.

crazydave 01-14-2003 07:50 AM

That is way cool. A monster truck is on my list of things to do.

Can you give us some details of how you pulled it off? I'm especially curious to see how you rigged the steering up.

Spanky is correct in his instructions to resize the image, but I've found 525 pixels is the widest you can get away with on this forum, without it going off the screen. Also I suggest that you use the crop tool to trim out more of the background so it's only your car taking up the screen. That way you don't have to shrink it too small to get it to fit.

Great job biohazard! Details... Details we need details. :)

Also I am waiting for a stronger motor from bitmod1 (out of stock). Hopefully a stronger motor will improve the performance.
Have you checked THIS out. ;)

Spanky 01-14-2003 10:03 AM

525 thanks i will rmember that :D

crazydave 01-14-2003 06:20 PM

Oh no!!, I have to have one, but I just ordered my first bit, and I'm still waiting for it to get here, and now I have to order this. Somehow I have a feeling the wife isn't going for it.;)

Well I might have to wait a month or so, but I will have one of those, preferrably with a baja bug body.

Notice they didn't waste any time with any surface mount technology when they made those? I wonder if they use microb motors?

That's wierd that you're having trouble posting the scaled images from PS... well anyway it's been taken care of. :)

biohazard 01-14-2003 10:11 PM

wrong picture size

Sorry I must of missed a step when I resized the picture. This should be the right size. Can you delete a post?

kwikbb edit: Done ;)

biohazard 01-14-2003 10:16 PM

Thanks for the help kwikbb, but I changed I before I saw you modified it. Sorry again for the mix up.

kwikbb 01-14-2003 10:22 PM

No problem biohazard, I'm glad you were able to figure out what step you missed in the re-scale.

Later,
B

looks like i can spend money again phew. any ways thats a nice job very cool!

scottyboyfun 01-15-2003 01:32 PM

How did u put in the extra gears? drilling a new hole in the chassis and placing a pin in it?

biohazard 01-16-2003 08:23 PM

extra gears pictures

Sorry for not responding sooner scottyboyfun. I didn't drill any new holes in the body for the new gears. I hope this picture helps you understand what I did to the body. Let me know if you have any questions.

t-squared 01-16-2003 08:27 PM

where did you get those gears?

That is wicked man, right along the lines of what i was thinking of trying. But I need help with steering and gearing. You should make a step by step tutorial, hehe

stil not sure about axels and stuff for mine.. only got the tires :(

biohazard 01-16-2003 08:39 PM

what gears

t-squared Which gears are you talking about. Give me a color?

biohazard 01-16-2003 08:43 PM

Swavey I am still working out some of the problems. Hopefully I will be able to simplify the process and then I will post step by step for all you guys if you want them. Let me know.

Swavey 01-16-2003 08:45 PM

Sweet, thanks a lot man, thats wicked work you got there,
im interested to see how my tires will work, very "rubbery" and "grippy" same size rim as the bit to i think, pretty much identical.

shocon2k 01-16-2003 11:19 PM

Your steering doesn't look too sturdy...does the car turn?

gtr2112 01-17-2003 01:41 AM

i tried those same wheels on a truck mod but thet wre just too heavy. they tweeked my steering. i had to go with big matchbox plastic ones. worked much better.

Stridex 01-17-2003 02:27 AM

Secret to steering monster tires is to bring in the coils a bit closer to the magnet. You can also just wind thicker and more powerful coils. Someone here posted how to do that. Looked pretty easy. This still wont work on some, but it should work on the ones in the picture. The less rubber you have the better.

t-squared 01-17-2003 06:12 AM

biohazard, what are those green and orange gears? do they affect your gear ratio?

and what are you using to hold the brass to the chassis?

biohazard 01-17-2003 04:16 PM

t-squared

The orange is standard microsizer gears and the green are standard zip zap gear. All these gears mesh very well (same gear ration). The front is straight brass bar placed through the holes for the old standard wheels, which I attached with a little glue. Two small screws hold on the back assembly. If you want later, I can post a picture. By the way, this truck will turn in both directions very well.

frizzen 01-18-2003 02:53 AM

That is so incrediby cool!

I got really inspired yesterday to start making a DIRT-CHEAP version of your Monster-mod. And as I don't have brass tubing laying around the house where I can find it, I got creative. Yet I'm still completely ripping you off!! *what can you expect, I only have a ZZ, and bit clones*

---

My version requires:

1 grey plastic car holder base from a bullet clone (thing between car & battery cover)
1 metal dress-shirt clip (most brand use these instead of pins now)
1 plastic shafted Q-tip (usually pretty colors)
Atleast a partial bottle of CA or other suitable glue
A car you don't mind trashing a little
And a parts car, or pile of parts.

Tools:
Needle Files (Always gotta have them)
Cutters (I prefer Diagonal Side-Cuts)
Bent nose pliers

Chances are, you've got most if not all of this stuff laying around the house anyway.

The only thing I can't figure out is how to keep the stock position axle (gear) from trying to slide off the transfer gear. Do you make it to really tight tolerances, or just glue a spacer block on?

If there's anybody interested in this, I can explain in more detail. However, if the creator of this mod doesn't want me to, I won't tell. I respect that he can have a monopoly on it if he wants. *I'll try to find my dig camera if somebody can host pics for me*

biohazard 01-18-2003 04:10 PM

Good luck on your monster truck frizzen. Post some pictures when you get a chance.

frizzen 01-18-2003 07:36 PM

I've got the monster-truck conversion parts finished. I made my front axle pins too long though, and one is about 1/16" longer (I had the wrong tires on my rear axle, and...)

Now all I have to do is pick a Chassis and PCB for my Micro-Monster. And modify it (dual motors, and install the parts) Then modify a controller so I can charge and use the truck.

-
I think I can go offroading just about anywhere *in the house* with this thing! It should be about like my Traxxas Rustler is outside.

frizzen 02-06-2003 02:06 PM

Update: I need a body!

Here's what I've been up to:

Panther clone with green gears and red motor. Mitsubishi Lancer body.

Once I started disassembling, I painted the steering knuckles, modified the set of rear wheels I pulled off the back, installed them and made front drop (lift?) axles, carved a stiffness molding off my stabilizer bar and reinstalled it upside down, so I now have independently sprung syspension.

Then at the back end I carved an axle height thing (bullet packing) and CA'd an axle-tube (Q-tip) to that, next I ripped the tires off a stock axle to get the transfer gear, snapped that into place (stock axle mount), and slid a short section of lightly crimped Q-tip onto the non-gear end to keep it in place. Then I wiggled the non-gear side wheel off of the axle that would be my road wheel, slid it through my axle-tube, and reinstalled the wheel. Then I used "Handi-tak" to secure the monster's rear axle height thing and set my gear lash.

Then I took a the unused parts of my shirt-clip and a solderless connecter to make my lifted charging points.

It runs well, can do a wheelie if you try hard enough, the only thing is that FWD and REV are switched due to the extra gear. And everything can be removed and replaced as stock if I want. It's slow, and not very torquey though. and I could use bigger wheels for keyboard rallying.
