Could u tell me how to strip paint with household materials please? I cant find the thread with this subject if u kno the thread or the info please post. Thx

Easy-Off oven cleaner should strip the paint off of a car body. I have heard that it works great for stripping the chrome off of plastic.

is Pine-Sol! Just buy some lemon or pine scented (NOT the anti-bacterial- the regular stuff) for about $2 and forget about it!.

It works on 90% of the paints out there, and doesn't harm 99% of the plastics either. Works awesome at stripping chrome from plastic also.

The best thing is that it won't burn your skin or blind you if you get it in your eyes!

Did I say it is really cheap?

Does it really work that well? Like, I could sit my wheels and bodies in it overnight and the plastic would be A-OK?

Cuz if this is true, then I'm totally repainting my shen with its stupid initation Spoon blue and yellow paint.

Yes shocon2k, It works that good! I have been using Pine-Sol for years for my model car paint stripping.

I was able to strip the chrome from my clone Rally Racers' wheels tonite in about an hour- with ZERO scrubbing! I now have a very cool set of black wheels on my RR (black is the color of the base plastic.

On a side note, if you do anything with the Johnny Lightning series of slot car bodys for Tjet or AFX slot cars, Pine-Sol is the one of the only products that will remove the tuff factory paint.

how about for painting is there a paint that will make it nice and shiny?

If I have a clear body that I painted...can I soak it in Pine-Sol overnight and the paint will be removed and then I will have a CLEAR body underneath? or does the paint lift off and leave a cloudy body underneath?

ib311 : I don't think you will have a problem at all. I have left parts in PineSol for days without a problem. Clear parts included.

But, I always suggest testing on a small part first.

you can use Testors Metallic Model paint

i have used testors it seems to work just as good as the more expensive kinds.

do you guys know if you can paint with acrylic paint? like for actual painting? or will that stuff just rub off?

i read u could but i really dont know.........dont take my word for it but i have read it..i hate telling people anything untill i try it..

You have to use a base primer and then the acrylic paint and then a top coat sealer. Kind of a PIA if you ask me

Just stick with enamels...you can't go wrong and you can just hit the brush right to the surface without any rub off. Just be careful you don't get fingerprints in the paint. :(

What if you already primed it with the factory paint? is it better to remove factory paint then prime, then paint....?

could i use Pin Sol now since i already primed it? It is currently primed, not painted yet......

Hey guys Pinesol isn't so user friendly. It will soften the plastic and if you touch it or scrub with too hard of a brush you will leave marks in the plastic. Once it removes the paint and the plastic drys and rehardens it's okay to handle. I had to learn this the hard way and so did my Skyline. :eek:

Pine Sol, sounds kinda scary since it will leave that scent on the shell; but no problem, all I need to do later is run some exhaust fumes onto it so it will smell like a car :D

Anyone else besides johnrtse use pinesol??? or is there an alternative paint stripper??? Must absorb as much knowledge as possible before I start to repaint the R32, 34 and 86.

Use the Pine-Sol straight from the bottle, with no mixing.

And use REGULAR Pine-Sol, lemon or regular scent. NOT the anti-bacterial- it doesn't work at all.


I found that while stripping a few clone bodies I have, that Pine-Sol will take off one or two colors, but leave other colors.
Soaking in Rubbing Alcohol took off any remaining paint (acrylic-based I assume).

Must be that they used different types of paints when they produced the cars.

And I do recommend using gloves - I don't always I admit :eek:

btw superimport2ner how long did u leave that in for, looks like either too long or not long enough. is that the paint or plastic thats all bumpy?

I couldn't see the pic for some reason pac, but it should work as long as it isn't "anti-bacterial".

I have stripped 5 cars with Pinesol, only 1 was screwed. Coinceidence I didn't use gloves? You decide.

I let one stay in for 2 days, wore gloves, worked good.

so if u handled it with bare hands before u put it in to strip it doesnt work good? or handling it after stripping and painting doesnt work?

btw i had my skyline in there for about 4 hours now and it doesnt seem to have done anything, how long should it take?


u guys should make a write up on this and it should be put up on sticky.

You can touch it before, Once it hits that Pinesol i wouldn't touch it. And the paint just dosen't "fall" off. After about 4 or 5 hours take a tooth bruch and lightly brush off the paint.

Is wool gloves okay to wear while doing this? What about oven mits?.. baseball glove...

I'm going to pick up some Pinesol and give it a try. I have a body that I foolishly tried using nail polish remover on. It said "non-acetone" yada yada.
Poor, poor little peugot 206 body. You were too young and beautiful to be taken away like that. The world and its nail polish removers are too cruel for an innocent, beautiful soul like yours. Sniffle.
Oh well, I'll test pine sol on that body and see how it works, then go at these other bodies and see where it gets me.

Surgical Gloves. Availiable at any hardware store. They are cheap you get like 100 for 10 bucks.

no good, the pine-sol did nothing but CLOUDED it slightly.

i left it in over night and the paint didnt come off.
i used sand paper on the hood before i tryed the pine sol and it didnt work even though i had scratched up the paint on the hood.

here is another pic of the pine sol i got it doesnt say ani-bacterial on it so whats the problem??

it seems like pine sol works on rims but not the tough factory paint on my clone.

does anybody else have clones with different colored rims? my back rims are black and the front are white wich sucks they look weird now

Castrol Super Clean degreaser! It's the best paint stripper out there. It comes in a large bottle and is in the auto cleaners section of the store. It will strip down to clean, unmarred plastic and won't cloud it at all. It doesn't soften the plastic and will strip any color or brand of paint. Try it, you'll be amazed.

Azimov, do you soak the body in it overnight or do you just rub the body with it? I've tried soaking Zip bodies with that stuff with no luck. What's your technique?

I put some in a zip lock baggie with the body and let it soak over night. I kinda rub it into the body with an old toothbrush at the start, put it in to soak and repeat a couple times before I go to bed. Next day, I rub it a couple more times. Works well for me.
Oh, and NEVER use the paint stripper in a can stuff. I tried it once and it completely disolved the body. And I mean quick too. Within minutes I had a lump of clear plastic goo in the baggie.
