4x4 Bit is here.
I have been working on this idea for a while and watching the posts to see what others were thinking, and finally decided to try it. So thanks to several others who posted there ideas!
I spent all weekend playing in my workshop and came away with a 4 wheel drive Bit powered by 2 motors (2.2's), and 2x 150 mAh NiMh cells. It drives like a tank in that the 2 wheels on each side are driven by a motor and you turn by slowing down/reversing one side or the other. This required a bit of rewiring the circuit board to use the steering function as a second motor. Once accomplished I scatch built the chassis from sheet ABS (train store materials). I used the stock pinion and secondary gears from a bit and main gears that were larger (stolen from a several dead servos) for the drive wheels. I adapted the wheels and tires from a "Modifier" die cast to give it the looks. It is charged with a 4 cell AA pack but it has tabs on the bottom that line up with the transmitter charger tabs. The body is from a super cheap little friction car I found at a Sav On drug store. It was painted an awful green with purple stickers, I added the roll cage and created the mounts. It now fits any bit chassis. The little sucker is easily as fast as any of my regular bits and twice as manuverable, it will also climb up and over obstacles far better than the new Wilde char-g's. I wish that Tomy had done it this way themselves! |

Shweet man, whats it look like under the bodies?
|
This is top-notch work! I was disappointed with the Wild Char-G's too.. your hummer is exactly what I wanted. Any chance you'd make more and sell them? :)
|

No plans to sell them at this time but was curious about interest level.
It is not a fake, this is a one of a kind hand made vehicle, just ask my wife about all the hours slaving over a hot work bench- ignoring her. But the Hummer body is from the H1's Toy east is selling. Here is a pic of the chassis: |
sorry
sorry but it did have the h1 body on my mistake
p.s that really rulez. tell your wife it was all worth while |
thats sweet widler! i always wanted an indoor rc that could crawl all over the place... this looks like it could work!
|
Nice job! How's the handling?
|
Dude where did you get that military jeep I am a jeep fanatic Ive searched every where to find a jeep body for my bit and i see you got one where did you get it and the hummer!! plz tell me!
|
The Jeep body was at a Sav-on drug store. It was part of a 2 pack with another car, they were the pul back and go type cheesy plastic cars. They also had yellow wheels and pink tires. I took off the bodies and tossed the rest. Once painted and detailed the body is pretty cool. The Hummer body came from Toy East.

Excellent work Widdler!
If you would be so kind to share with us all the details of how you put that beast together, I'd love to promote this thread to our Bit Science forum! |
Lovely!
Will it go both forward and reverse? If so I guess you must have added an H-bridge to the steering controls. I am about to do this mod but this is because I actually want to use the R/C gear for a small tank. Michael |
Widdler
Very cool 4x4 :D Can you show us how you mod the board so you can run a motor on the steering channel?I would like to do this so I can run one of my micro Blimps with 2 motors. Thanks, |
Hey Widdler coul you make some blue prints of this thing for us to biuld? zztbo b45m bg395 bg343 bg12 bbimpb

hmmm...
yea i'd like a set of blueprints also:) im building a 4x4 monster truck zip but anything will help:)
|
that is soo phat
Hey Widdler where you at?? we need more info on your bit |
man that thing rocks. and i thought i was a bad ass for putting monster tires on my bit. but my monster sucks. no torque, no steering, no juevos. and now my wife thinks i'm crazy.
keep up the good work. p.s. if you want to make me one you can. lol rabbitsperm |
HOW U WIRE IT UP? The steering? h bridge? did u add the green resistor also?
|
Widler are you alive:confused: I know a way to make my own but it would mead four wires to both motors. 1&2 wire would be foward and reverse.3&4 wire would be steering. lots of wires but it would work in theory but would take forever to make.
|
Excellent work!
Quite interesting! |
as that bee on the simpsons would say "EXCELLENTÉ"
