Nope, its on the back burner for a few weeks.
I'm more focused on my ZZawd right now besides I feel I have the ZZmt pretty much under control. I hate the way I did my axles and may have to make some real ones for it. Your design is interesting although it would be able to pull stumps with that many gears. |
I like the design. It seems rather quite sound. I'll go out on a limb here and say that it would work most definately.

I'm not sure what you are gaining with the 4 extra gears other than additional friction. There is no gearing up or down in your configuration that will provide extra torque or speed with those extra gears. Perhaps I'm missing something.

What Sea-to-Sky has not told us, I think, is that the gear sets are free to turn on the shafts. If I am correct in my assessment of his arrangement, then he achieves a good gear reduction at the end, much like the gear arrangement in the ZZSE servo. What is not clear in my mind is the output gears. It appears that he has two small pinion gears turning eachother, which would mean the outputs to front/back and back/front, as he labels them, would be in opposite directions. If I were building this gear box, I'd fasten or bond the final gear to the shaft (permitting the other two gears to spin freely on that shaft) and use the shaft as the output in both directions. To couple the output to small pinion gears, as he does, in part defeats the gear reduction. Does any of this make sense? Chilli |
Yes, I think I see what you are getting at and I agree about fastening the last gear to the shaft.

ull need to lower weight from that much for more power use a dremel and put holes in sections on each gear like a spoke

well varies
most likely .5gram of ea gear u can reduce more by cutting in lines but do not cut close 2 teeth and gear conection

Okay, I now understand. Punctuation in your text would assist me immensely. It would be helpful if you would do that for me, please. Please tell me what you mean by "power." Are you building a crawler or a racer? What is your total gear ratio, pinion to axle? What motor are you using and what is its rpm? Could you describe what gears you are using and in what order? If you are going for the least total vehicle weight, have you milled away the excess plastic from the chassis? Do you plan on using a custom, thin-walled car or truck body? Will we see pictures? Do you intend to write a tutorial about your work on this project? chilli |
