SSMT Project

1 Attachment(s)
So here's how this this is going down. Brass chassis, ssmt electronics, ssmt wheels and nuckles, ssmt electronics, ssmt shocks, and some dogbones and cups.

I started off with a prototype. Bamboo skewers and hot glue! I used ssmt motor and gears and the diff for my gear box. For the axle, it's the transfer axle that goes from the rear of the truck to the front of the truck with the two cups on a reg ssmt. I used a ssmt tire and nuckle from the front of the truck. I also used the dogbone that was on it and made it longer.

Well this is looking more like a blog, no feedback..

Well anyway, I decided not to make a brass chassis, but to use the ssmt one. I used the inside of a mechanical pencil for the suspension bars. They are pretty strong! Here's what one looks like. I might just use the pencils instead of brass to make the truck.

Compressed.

mattdg 04-18-2006 04:18 PM

Last night I went out to get the new SSMT it is similar to the MZM. I like tires alot I might use them on my Mini-T I just got to get them to fit. So do you have any close up pics so I can see the drive shafts and all. And did you lock the diffs , and did you lock the solid axle swing.

Matt

zzultimate 04-18-2006 04:54 PM

My camera can't do close ups, so this is as close as it gets. The drive shaft is just the dogbone from the truck lengthend.

The axle swing will be locked.

For the diff, i just took out all the gears and put it back together. Then i ran my new homemade drive shaft through the center of it and glued it in place. You can see the cup sticking out on one side.

mattdg 04-19-2006 01:15 PM

Oh , so your making like a stadium truck right

Matt

zzultimate 04-19-2006 05:19 PM

Yes, thats what i'm going for.

Ran out of mechinical pencils today. Gotta go find some more somewhere.

Really Happy with how the right rear came out. Except for the dogbone falls out when the suspension is compressed. The wheel doesn't stay in-line with the driveshaft i guess.

Well, i fixed the dogbone problem. I made a telescoping dogbone with a spring in the middle to push it appart when the shock is compressed.

I started on the left side. Here's a quick pic.

mattdg 04-24-2006 10:00 PM

thats looking good and cool do you have a pic with wheels on and what kind of pencils you using

Matt

zzultimate 04-25-2006 08:16 PM

I'll get a pic later with the wheels on after i finish the rear end. The kind of pencils i'm using are the bic ones. I just cut them open to get the tube in the middle. I saved the outside to use for somthing else.

I finished the rear last night for the most part. I still got a few things to work out but it's pretty much finished.

Here's a few pics.

One more.

mattdg 04-27-2006 05:24 PM

wow thats realy coming along, so your going to start on the front, and I dont think you should use pencil for the front it might just be to difficult that way. also what body are you going to use the stock one or just a model car body.

Matt

mattdg 04-29-2006 07:03 PM

thats a nice body

Matt

zzultimate 04-30-2006 01:07 PM

thanks, it looks pretty cool.

I started on the front. Goning to be just like the back except without dogbones. I'm going to make my own nuckles too......somehow......

mattdg 04-30-2006 01:32 PM

so your just making it 2WD right [because thats more like a buggy]an try and use pencil for a nuckle but drill a hole through it

Matt

zzultimate 04-30-2006 06:50 PM

Yeah, it's going to be 2wd. What's your idea for a nuckle?

mattdg 04-30-2006 07:28 PM

just use the stock one.

Matt

zzultimate 04-30-2006 07:38 PM

I can't. I used them for the back.

mattdg 05-01-2006 07:29 PM

uh . . . . . . . . . go to radio shack and buy the Xmod Gen1 AWD kit and use nuckles from it here is a link for it

http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...entPage=family

or just look on ebay or somthing.

Matt

zzultimate 05-03-2006 05:15 PM

Thoes are both possibilties.

Well, it's getting down to where i'd better start thinking about the electronics. I'm thinking of using the ssmt ones, and adding two more batts. I'm hoping that it wont fry the board.

mattdg 05-03-2006 09:14 PM

I dont think you should use the stock electronics they most likly will get ried and after marhets are alot better and more chocies and combinations.

Matt

zzultimate 05-04-2006 08:24 AM

What do you reccomend for electronics? I don't have any laynig around, so i'd have to buy some.

mattdg 05-04-2006 03:41 PM

go to www.towerhobbies.com and look for some small ones.

Matt

zzultimate 05-04-2006 08:24 PM

I went and looked there, but I am a total noob at picking out electronics. I have no idea what to use. I didn't know they cost so much!

mattdg 05-04-2006 09:03 PM

well this weekend ill help you pick the smallest but lowest price on towerhobbies.com so you can get started.

Matt

zzultimate 05-05-2006 05:23 PM

Thanks man, that'll help a lot!

zzultimate 05-10-2006 05:33 PM

mattdg 05-11-2006 11:08 AM

Sorry it took so long to get back to you but here they are http://www.rcmart.com/catalog/produc...oducts_id=2129 you will have to take apart the controler to put in the cristal for the frequency.

I love that chassis it is awsome. (Great work so far)

I snapped this pic so I could see what it would look like when it's done. I just took the right rear and put it on the front left.

mattdg 05-12-2006 02:55 PM

Man that is goning to be one sick ride [wish mine was like that] that sould be a production car. and are you going to use the electronics i sent you [the link to the Mini-X electronics] or are you going to use the stock ones?

Matt

mattdg 05-12-2006 08:04 PM

oh yeah and you shouldnt use the stock shocks on customs A-arms, the arms could break with no problem. either that or modifie the stock ones to make is a softer spring.
