tired of people saying NOS

NOS is just a brandname of Nitrous Oxide. Thats what it really is Nitrous Oxide or Nitro for short not NOS, NOS is a brand made by HOLLY. There are other brands such as VENOM, ZEX, and ELDRILOCK. So stop saying NOS because thats not what its called it is just a famous brand because of the movie "The Fast and The Furious"

323iT 10-17-2002 06:42 PM

you forgot to list NX:D

AceQ 10-17-2002 07:10 PM

People are saying NOS because of how the engine has been described in the fast and furious ZZ set. They actually call it the NOS motor...

They don't call it a 2.4 / 2.6 or whatever. They say the NOS motor. So you may have to endure the NOS brand as the ZZ fast motor name.

-AceQ-

ps. NOS NOS NOS NOS! jk :)

blacksabbath070 10-17-2002 07:14 PM

HEY

HEY ghost of akina you are now like my brother now i argued about the same exact thing the one day i never say "NOS" i say nitrous oxide or nitrous after the fast and the furious all these stupid teeny bobbers started saying NOS and it reallllllllllllly got on my nerve so now everytime someone says that i have to argue with them im glad we think alike :D

d00kie 10-17-2002 08:13 PM

NOS

Well, it is the name for one of the manufacturers nitrous oxide. But even before the Fast and the Furious was released in theaters, I know a lot of people who label it as NOS. Maybe its because that it is much easier to say NOS than Nitro. Its has only one syllable basically so NOS, NOS, NOS. I'll admit, I use the word NOS rather than nitro or nitrous oxide, but I'm aware that there were different companies who manufacture Nitrous Oxides. They manufacture their own Nitrous Oxide kits to compete in the market where NOS (excuse me akina) has a lot of back for buck (I'm planning to stay away from it, I've heard about bad experiences with Nitro).

Oh, and this reminds me. This requires some good timing, if you're driving around with your friends and you reach a traffic light stop, time it so the second the light turns green, the driver pretends to hit/flip a button and everyone else in the car jerks back as though as the car has been equiped with nitrous. Very funny indeed.

NOS (sorry)

Speed-D 10-17-2002 11:05 PM

NOS!!!!!

Get over it.

dumboi07 10-17-2002 11:22 PM

there....

i remembered to click the button on the right. um its not nitro. thats 1/10 rc cars. and paintball (imho very gay compared to airsoft). Its actually nitrous. ok

MTL 10-18-2002 02:04 AM

its been argued before...
im not a fan of nitrous...i think its just cheating...unless both of the racers use it....i guess then its OK...
although i would never own a canister of it...

i never liked the movie either...and now they are making a part 2...get ready for more ricer action.... ;/

hogjowlz 04-15-2003 10:02 AM

nitrous oxide is a gas. its made by nature. they are all the same chemical. and what nitrous has to do with electric motors im not sure.

mpbiv 04-15-2003 10:26 AM

NAWZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

My MS has two of the big ones!!!!!!!!!!

Personally the few times I ever talk about nitrous oxide I don't usually say NOS. But even when I hear others say it I know what they mean so its kind of trivial. If someone is ignorant and uses the term all the time without knowing that NOS is a brand name, then thats their problem and not mine. I could careless.

Now back in the day I used "NOS" the brand and refered to it as such just like if I use any of the other brands on the market, or could it be said "they use the bottle" like I have heard , it is all trivial. I agree that the general masses refer to Nitrous as NOS but I think that if you know better whats the point to complaining. I think it is one of those battles that are as old as Ford VS Chevy.

You guys should be sure to say "facial tissue" rather than Kleenex, also.

hogjowlz 04-15-2003 03:36 PM

no

"those guys" should stop talking about nitro injected electric motors cuz that doesnt exist.

metsrule119 04-15-2003 03:38 PM

whoever the hell started this, what does it matter anyway?

Sorry dude, 'nitro' is short for Nitro Methane. That stuff is wicked flammable. The abbr. for nitrous oxide is just 'nitrous'.

hogjowlz 04-15-2003 05:03 PM

again guys. i thought bit char-g cars had an electric motor?

i have asked before and im asking now

what does nitrous oxide have to do with little cars and electric motors? go fight in a honda forum or whatever if you want to argue about nitrous

bluemax_1 04-15-2003 05:09 PM

Heheh, definitely not a fan of nitrous. Only good for straight line. Any monkey can be trained to drive in a straight line especially if the car's an auto!:D

Someone mentioned nitrous can be really dangerous. Aside from the fact that the car's engine is at risk when you add nitrous, and it can be diffucult to control, (that's why straight line only) the gas itself being an oxidizer is quite dangerous. No, it's not the same nitrous oxide that makes you happy at the dentist. My ex-roommate, while watching Fast 'N Furious remarked about the scene where Johnny Tran and buds shoot up the green Eclipse and the NOS blows the car to bits. His exact reaction was, "What!!??? No way.... that's ridiculous"

Until I showed him this... http://www.team3s.com/FAQnitrousX.htm

Check it out.

bluemax_1 04-15-2003 05:17 PM

Oh, and hogjowlz, you're right, the real nitrous systems have absolutely nothing to do with micro r/c cars. Someone's obviously just a little peeved at the overuse or inaccurate use of the term 'NOS'.

However, you should note that the person is probably peeved because of Zip Zaps and their naming one of the aftermarket add-on motors, the 'NOS motor'. Obviously, there's no connection or usage of NOS or nitrous in a tiny electric motor, or ANY electric motor. They jsut called it that trying to cash in on the popularity of the 'Fast 'N Furious' movie, where NOS supposedly makes for very fast cars, so they're implying the 'NOS motor' for the Zip Zap is very fast.

Oh well, it's just a new stupid cultural trend like using the term 'turbo' in the '80s for everything from "Turbo fishing line" to "Turbo shoes" and all manner of things with no connection to turbochargers and the term 'Titanium' in the '90s for plastic objects that have no titanium in them whatsoever.

hogjowlz 04-15-2003 05:30 PM

thank you sir.

to the rest of you: why was this on a forum for rc cars?

ps: the nos motor isnt really that fast.

sessiz10 04-15-2003 05:47 PM

When you cut yourself do you ask for an adhesive bandage or do you ask for a bandaid?
I think anyone who gets peed off at the use of nos as an abreviation for a nitrous system needs to breath a lil more.
You know who we all should be upset with? The people that call mayonaise salad dressing. Those people are idiots. Everyone knows that mayonaise is a sandwhich spread and when used alone is far from a SALAD dressing.
I freakin hate them people. If only I carried a hatchet with me at all times, I'ld show them:mad:

BabyKiller 04-15-2003 05:52 PM

somone please move this to general

AUDI-TT 04-15-2003 06:40 PM

exactly do u say gimme a "carbonated cola beverage" or do u simply say gimme' a coke? or pepsi (coke is better)
it's a name on the market that has been so well advertised that people just refer to the brand instead of the actual product.

Canadian Bit 04-15-2003 06:57 PM

Pepsi? Coke? That stuff is ok but Shweppess [sp?] is much better.

nghts 04-15-2003 07:14 PM

Man Nos is a smart buisness...getting there brand in the FnF must of made them so much money...

nrmcj 04-15-2003 07:17 PM

:) yep... im not too sure which company the NOS name lives under... but whoever they are, they're very, very smart. and they also miseducate one hell of a lot of people... i heard some lady talking about nitrous the other day, but she kept saying NOS....... i wasnt gonna do anything about it, cuz middle aged ladies dont really matter to me..

but my friend got really spazzy and asked her if she knew what she was talking about, and bitched her out pretty bad... i just kinda stood in the corner facing the wall :D

akura2 04-15-2003 07:26 PM

Making a "Xerox"

MWill517 04-15-2003 09:16 PM

N2O

N2O, or Nitrous Oxide, also known as laughing gas. Isnt this a funny thread. Why dont you call it what it is if you want short and correct. "N2O"

nrmcj 04-15-2003 09:24 PM

hmmm i dunno,... it seems kinda broken up rite? dun flow off the tongue... i just say nitrous...

dabigpig 04-15-2003 10:01 PM

giggle gas or the giggly gas (ned flanders)

useage
my car has a huge motor and i don't need the giggly gas to make it go fast

TypeZer0 04-15-2003 10:54 PM

the only reason i would use nitrous would be to cool the air-to-air intercooler for a turbo system in a nitrous fogger so that in a hot summer day, the compressed air would be as cold as possible when entering the engine

Car + N20 -> +40*HP
Human + N20 -> LOL

Just a little chemistry.

syncronized 04-16-2003 01:46 AM

Direct port, wet system, fogger, whateva!

Nitrous Oxide is cancerous for your car! And the only real reason anyone should use it is to cut out your turbo lag.

Of course if you had a German Supercharged (no turbo lag!:D )AWD Monster like me, you wouldn't need 'squeeze'.

http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/...G60Syncro1.jpg

My 2 cents!

ib311 04-16-2003 08:31 AM

i guess i should say "Q-tips" or "cotton swabs"?

i personally use NOS because it's easier to say, but when i go to the performance shop to talk raw dog with the pros i always use nitrous. :p
