It's loud, annoying, and just plain annoying. I heard you should adjust the alignment on the controller and then the car itself to reduce the "jitter effect". Yes, I just coined the phrase "jitter effect." Woot woot! When I get my digital camera working I'll show you some pictures of my Zip Zap. It's awesome. I'll post them at my site. Leave me an e-mail if you want the address. Peace out.

Hehe, I'm 42 and still going strong buying my toys. The local RS's even know me by name, and what a ZapNut that I am LOL! -:)

Sawblade 08-30-2004 05:55 PM

I'm 20 and I race them at work. :D

To get out of getting funny looks, I gave them the old "This thing looks exactly matches my real truck excuse"

and i am in zip zap therapy, once a week.

Sdog 09-04-2004 08:01 AM

I'm almost 34 and have a pretty extensive collection of ZZ's. They remind me of the slot cars I used to run as a kid. I still have those someplace. So when I came across something that was close to the size of a slot car, but it was RC....I had to get it.

RNF1968 11-17-2004 10:58 PM

Sdog, I am 36 and got one these cars last week because they remind me of my old AFX slot cars. I love the fact that you can change motors, tires and bodies just like the old slot cars. The best thing is that you are not confined to a track. Oh yeah, I brought mine to work and now everyone wants one!! :)

Exactly.....everyone that looks at mine wants one. I love these things. I'm partial to the SE's myself. I'll tell you what, if you haven't picked up a 3rd gen. SE yet....do it. They have really improved them....even over the muscle cars.

gtr....you have to tell me where you get those wheels!

RNF1968 11-18-2004 04:32 PM

Which are the 3rd gen? I have the Mustang concept car but it was on clearance so it is probably the old one. I just ordered the 70 GTO Judge. Hopefully that is a newer one. I think it is. I want to get a monster truck next! Those wheels on the car above look chrome?

gtr2112 11-19-2004 01:18 AM

the 3rd gen. SE's are the vipers, GT40, and the 04 mustang. the wheels on my red chevelle are MM's military rims made to fit ZZ's. the tires are from a kidriffic rc sanded down for realistic look and traction. i have about 5 different sets of custom rims i use. the rims are easy, it's the tires that are hard. i'm trying to figure out how to make my own tires with some kind of mold. you can make just about any rims work if you have the right tools. but, it's almost impossible to find good rubber tires.:(

Sdog 11-19-2004 08:04 AM

RNF...The Mustang Concept is first gen. The muscle cars (GTO, Chevelle) are second gen. The second generation cars fixed many of the flaws on the first gen cars...mostly steering issues. The second gen cars are good cars and I really like the muscle car bodies. The third gen cars are the Vipers, Ford GT, and the 04 Mustang Mach 1. My 3rd gen car shows great improvement in speed and an improvement in turning radius over the second gen cars. I am a bit dissapointed in the look of the bodies for the 3rd gen. cars, namely the Ford GT and Viper. But, RS did a pretty good job with the 04 Mustang Mach 1 body. It is proportioned much better than the other bodies.

GTR...in my opinion, wheels make up half the look of the car. Yours look really good. I wish RS would come out with some wheel kits that were rims instead of hub cap style. Beefy tires with raised white lettering would improve the look of the SE muscle cars a whole lot.

gtr2112 11-19-2004 01:25 PM

sdog, thnx for the props. the muscle cars are my favourite. i have been wishing the same thing about the rims and tires since they came out with the 67 camaro. the closest thing to that that i've seen, is the F-1 clones. i just can't see buying 2 cars just for the back wheels. i don't really like 20" rims on muscle cars. in their day, it was more about the rubber burning than the bling.;)

kehern15 11-19-2004 02:29 PM

all you guys(or at least most...) feel very embaresed about going to get a zz, but i am 13, going to be 14 on the 10 of feb, so i dont feel that awkard, hahahaha. :D just kidding, i do feel slightly awkard, but the rs buy likes what i have done with my bodies, how i paint them and stuff. hehe :D

RNF1968 11-19-2004 05:05 PM

Why should we be embarrassed?! Its good ole clean fun. :)

Sdog, thanks for the info.

My first gen mustang is pretty slow. I have a Hot Wheels RC and that things hauls ass. It doesn’t have the proportional steering or variable speeds or lights but it is fun. I still like the ZZs better. I can’t wait to see how my GTO performs. I guess I will have to buy a Viper too! Aren’t all the bodies interchangeable between SE generations? I would put my GTO body on the Viper. I wonder if RS will make more theme bodies. Dukes of Hazard and Knight Rider would be cool. A cop car would be cool too with the lights on top.

I told a friend of mine at work about these and he came in today and said he spent $50 at RS. Too funny. These things are addicting.

rfnagel 11-19-2004 06:33 PM

Embarrassed? I think not LOL! -:) Hehe, I'm 42 and still playing with my toys -:)

I read this somewhere on the Internet (refering to the age of the folks playing with ZipZaps), don't remember exactly from where... might have even been here:

There's no way you are too old. I'm 29 and my buddy is a young 40! Remember, we were the ones pushing HotWheels around as a kid. Now that it's not as easy to bend down to push them on the floor, we can stand up (or kick back if you prefer) and play with our cars.

this is what happens when you play with cars too much.:p 63'SE

Sdog 11-20-2004 09:30 AM

Weeds....I'm never embarrassed when I it the RS.

RNF....no problem....and yes, the bodies are interchangeable.

GTR....nice job lowering that vette. That is on an SE chassis??? Care to share your lowering technique with us? The wheels look like those kit racer wheels. BTW.....nice Tx wheel.

RNF1968 11-20-2004 10:58 AM

I couldn’t help myself! I just went out and got the Ford GT so that I would have the latest and greatest generation. I tossed on my Boss 302 body with the purple motor and the red gears from my upgrade kit in it and the thing is so fast it’s almost uncontrollable! I was wondering though, is it normal for the car to back up slower than it goes forward? Just curious because my HotWheels RC goes the same speed forward and reverse.

it's normal.

thnx Sdog. the 63 is very lowered. normally that body won't even fit on an SE. the chassie has been cut and sanded down on the top, sides, and in front of the back wheels. the board is pushed all the way back, and the wires folded and tucked down inside. the chassie is cut just below the top of the batts. the body has been lowered one and a half times stock tab height. i use a metal nail file for that. the tab slot in front is right under the nose. these 3rd gen. SE's are so fast, that even with it being this low it still flips. ZZ 3.4 with blue gears flies. i'd love to put a 4.2 high torque motor in this thing. the Tx wheel is from one of my sons old toy cars that got destroyed. i can't use the stock one very well. it's too small. here's another shot of the 63' and Tx.

I have heard of reliability problems with the 4.2s, and I really dont think that they would last very long with the new SEs. The ZZ 3.4s, the Bit 3.8s, and the r- spec motors are supposed to be the best. Anything over 4.0 is unlikely. Has anyone here tried the 4.2 perfections?

Sdog 11-20-2004 01:23 PM

Well that is a beautiful lowering job. It looks the way it should now. You would think RS would take a hint. What do you think about the size of the rear wheel wells on the '63 Vette?

RNF1968 11-20-2004 01:33 PM

I probably should start a new thread for this question but the people reading this one seem very knowledgeable.

Has anyone fit a NON-SE body onto an SE? I bought the pink 2 Fast 2 Furious for my girlfriends daughter and I am trying to put it in on SE.

Thanks!!

yes, but the bodies for the reg ZZs are a bit longer than the SE bodies, but not by much. I have never seen the s2000 before, and they are convertibles, so they may be different.

RNF1968 11-20-2004 02:23 PM

I think you're right about being convertibles. There doesn’t seem to be enough room inside to snap on completely. The other non-convertible that came with it fits. Oh well. Thanks!

gtr2112 11-20-2004 02:27 PM

the 63' vette is a non SE body. that's why it was so hard to get it to fit. the body isn't even wide enough to fit on a stock SE chassie. this chassie has been cut and sanded down to the bare essentials. they did make the rear wheel wells way too big. that's why i used the bigger tires in the back so, they wouldn't be so noticable. are the rspec motors better than the ZZ 3.4's?

mshkttck 11-20-2004 09:40 PM

the rspecs are supposed to be faster and tourqier, but the ZZ motors last longer... I think.

mshkttck 11-21-2004 09:30 AM

BTW, do not use motors meant for bits on ZZ SEs.

Sdog 11-21-2004 07:50 PM

Why?

mshkttck 11-21-2004 08:41 PM

something about how the SEs send pulses of electricity into the motor, wheras regular non propo rcs dont. I dont remember where I saw it though.
