Got my RCP-track today!
 

I got my track today and I must say I am impressed.

The quality of the track is better than I expected. The durability of the track is excellent. The barriers of the track withstand full speed hits without shifting position and my cars haven't been damaged at all.
I like having the grip or slick surface choices. I haven't tried the grip surface yet but the slick surface provides plenty of traction when using soft tires.
I also like the variety of tiles that will be released soon. I am looking forward to the off road tiles (samples were included and they are amazing!), banked tiles, and different radius turns.

Track assembly is a little tedious. The instructions could be a little more detailed. I wish I had more space to set up a larger course. I have the narrow oval set up now. All my cars seem to powerful on this small track.

I am delighted with my purchase and I am excited to try some of the larger layouts.

I got my track today.....2 hours to setup....but that included moving around some furniture. I tried it with a few different setups. The spinbrush motor (with 11 tooth pinion) seems to over power the track. I don't have time to react. (of course that could be because of my rookie status and my age....LOL) Anyway I digress... I did the best with a stock motor, 2WD, the 4.5 steering and stiff suspension. All in All I would say that this track is well worth the 200 bucks I dropped on it. If you have the room, get ya one.

I wish I had the space to setup a layout like that. :mad:

My favorite setup is similar to yours. RSX with awd, 4.5 tierod, stage 2 drift motor, treaded soft tires, and stiff suspension all around.

I am still having trouble hooking up my 2wd stage 2 drag motor car. It really flies on the track but like you said it's really difficult to control.

Have you tried the foam tires? I did and I think the soft slicks or treads hook up better.

No I don't have a set of foam yet but they are on my list. I didn't get much time to drive last night and tonight I got no track time. I will be trying different things to find what works best for me. All 3 cars had the soft treads on them that I drove last night. I still have allot of tires and suspension to try. Now I just need a few more hours in the day and I'll be all set.

I had about an hour of track time today. My rsx is really hooking up now but I still have to back off before each turn. I like the drift motor a lot. When you hit a wall you can power back up to speed quickly. Are you using the grip or foam side of your track?

That's how the pros do it... they slow down for the turns!:D

I would like it better if I could simply bury the throttle and steer! lol.

jaubery.........Keep changing your setup around until you find one that let's you do that. I changed allot of stuff tonight on my Skyline. I went to the softest springs and changed to the soft slicks. I put in the "stage 2" "8 tooth" motor. The car handled much better. It was tight with it's previous setup and now it's a little loose, but it is easier to get around the track now. I'll find a happy medium hopefully. BTW, my track is making my cars filthy. Lots of black stuff coming off the tiles. I'm thinking that will get better with some wear on it. You seeing that?

rcp tracks are the single best thing you can buy to improve your racing skills. it will do more for you than any xmod setup etc. think of the purchase as a learning tool as well as a source for hours of enteraintment;)

i love the offroad tiles and plan on eventually having an offroad course branch in and out of my road course.

RCP track barrier question
 

I asked this question in tracks forum, but not getting any response.

RCP track barrier question

What happens when you hit the barrier at a slight angle?
Does it catch and bounce you back into the track?
Or stop you and you have to back up off the barrier.
Or does it just straighten you out like a PVC or hard plastic barrier would do?

Seems like foam with a thin hard plastic cover would absorb the impact and keep you in the race with out stopping you. I will have some young kids racing and wondered about keeping the fun level up, without them being stopped every other turn.

My RCP track almost stops the cars even when hit at a slight angle. I had to change the front bumper on my RSX because the little fins at the bottom of the one that was on it kept getting stuck under the rail. Even a glance would bring it to a dead stop. My RSX is only 2WD and when it hit the rail and wedged, it would bring 1 of the back tires off the ground, prohibiting even backing off of the rail. The tire that was off the ground now would just spin in either direction, causing me to have to go unstick the car. My other cars do not stick like that but do slow considerably when they touch the rails. Hope that helps.

rlc77, I am happy with my awd car. I need to put an 8 tooth stage 2 in my 2wd car.

My cars also getting black gunk all over them.

I haven't had any problems with my cars getting stuck. Maybe you need to tighten your barriers down more. All my cars slow down when you hit the barriers. The quickest way around the track is to stay off the barriers. Riding the rails gets you no where!

LOL......of course I don't ride the rails. Was just telling him what happens when I hit them. My rails are tight but the fin on the RSX sits right on the ground and still gets under it. Not a problem now though because I just changed out the bumper. I'm still experimenting but so far my favorite setup is 2WD, 4.5 Steering, yellow front springs, blue rear springs, Stage2 8 tooth. I still haven't found a comfortable setup for AWD (pushes too much) but I will work on that. L8R Dude

So is the track in that picture bigger than just the Wide-L, or did you just substitute some of the regular tiles for the offroad ones? I'm thinking by the looks of it, that I could fit that setup in my living room.

The track in the picture is the wide L and addtional off road tiles. The wide L is approx 13' by 10'. Wide oval 6'6'' by 11'8''.

OK I will man. I'm going to do allot of testing on Saturday because I have 15 people coming over on Sunday for a Super Bowl party and racing is included in the events. I want to setup all my cars the same for that day. I'll let ya know how it goes.

OMFG i forgot all about my rcp track... its probably packed up in the move tho. that sux. i cant beleive i forgot about it. i never even put the damn thing together cept for this one event thing (like a fundraiser). i gotta get back into the rc scene... damn.

I added elevation changes in my track! I have an up hill section thru the wide L "S" turn. It leads into a downhill straight into the last right hander. It's a blast to drive. The rise is about three inches. It is gradual over about 5' of the course. There aren't any ground clearance problems.

Sound like fun man. I started construction on my lap counter. I completed allot of it last night. I'm hoping to get a test run tonight, but it looks like tomorrow will be better.

Will it time your laps or just count? Can you do multiple cars with it? RS sells one for zips $9.99 I am hoping they will sell one for our track and the xmods soon.

Hey, I added banked turns to my track tonight. They work and look great!

dont worry, u will get a counter that is good enough to satisfy anyone. current plans are to have it computer monitored in spreadsheet form.

I have the pointers installed and aligned. I am going to start working on the the transistors tonight.

This is the lap counter so far. Still no way to test because my parallel connector didn't work.

Lasers $1.00 a piece at dollar store. I bought 12 altogether
Phototransistors $1.49. Bought at RS. I got 6 of those.
4.5V Power Supply $16.99 Bought at RS.
Surface mount DC Power Connector $2.79 Bought at RS
All PVC Components were $10.00 combined.
So Far $48.00 plus tax of course.

I only have demo version of software so far but best I can tell it's going to run around $50.00. I'm not going to pay for that until I know this works.

It will score 6 cars.

I'll pick up a new parallel connector and start testing it soon.

That's great.

When my group races each other we shout out our number of laps as we cross the start-finish line. It gets a little confusing. It's hard enough to drive your car; add counting to it and we sound like a bunch of Jay Walking Allstars.
