$20 new X-Mod!!!
 

Well I went into an RS looking for a replacement body. One in my area was selling the bodies off of returned, defective cars. So I went in and asked if they had any returned cars in the back to sell me a body off of it. The guy brings out a blue honda. The only thing wrong was the battery wires werent soldered to the holders. He tells me he's going to start selling the returns for $20 and bam! New X-Mod for $20.

wish my RS had more returns.

they charged you my local rs gave me 2 complete returns for free because they said they would just get scrapped

Wha? From the story the local manager was giving me, they dont sell returns.

You got lucky. I went into one that had already thrown them out.

My local shack smashes their returns then throws them out.

SO you just went and asked if they had any returned xmods and they sold it to you!! Lucky I called my radioshack and tried that and they said "NO WE CANT DO THAT IT IS AGAINST POLICY" and i was like wut policy and the guy hang up on me

If you are in ok with the RS boys (and girls too :D) they will give you a deal of even stuff for free if they can't resell it.

this should raise alarm bells when it comes to buying these from places like ebay. you don't want to pay full or near full price for a refurbrished unit. if some of you have learned to get these cheap this way, you know others will try to make money off it. if you get the chance make sure you educate your fellow xmoders to ask questions.

You have a good point. There are some people out there that lack the integrity of being honest. People should tell people if it is dammaged goods before they buy it.

My local RS said they return them as "unrepairable".

More shows the lack of training, or even interest more than anything. But I tried to work my way towards this (again) with a different worker at the Downtown Seattle branch. Asking if they had any "parts kits" when a person broke the car.

He replied they didnt other than whats on the wall. So I asked well what if the rear a-arm broke (Im sure he had no idea what this was since he admitted to not owning any of the zip zaps or xmods). He replied "I guess they would have to buy a new kit" Which is wrong-we all know you can order them for expensive shipping via Radio Shacks 800 number.

You know, in the long run if Radio Shack is serious about being "Your R/C Headquarters" They will have to have specially trained workers who are really knowledgeable and into this stuff to some degree versus some kid just trying to work a job that they hate.

The guy said the left joint cups and RSX bodys were on backorder.

im estatic about this new RSX i got last night. the only thing wrong with it was that a wire was broke between the 2 PCBs re soldered it and its as good as new. it was only missing the clips that hold the batteries in. now if i order some new electronics for my civic ill have 2 xmods

These are not on back order. Just call the 800 number to order. Less fuss and confusion. Just Call and give the stock number listed on CJ's post.

If I'm not mistaking, it Return Merchandise Authorization Code, or something similar to that.

After reading this post a few days ago, I decided to call around to some of my local RS stores to see if I could score one of these returns. I didn't call the two in my town, as both stores have diehard Xmod RS employees and I'm sure they cabbage onto the returns as soon as they come in. One of the stores in another town said that they "smash them", while the one literally across the street in the mall had a black Civic that had been returned. The guy didn't know what was wrong with it, but said that if I come by and pick it up, he'd just give it to me. Needless to say, I rushed right over. I also left my business card with my cell phone number and he's supposed to call me if he gets any more in.

I found out that the only thing wrong with the Civic was that the rear diff sounded like it was slipping when cornering. I took the diff apart, put a piece of black tape in to "lock" it up, and everything works fine and dandy.

can you hook me up with some? I'm willing to give you some cash to make it worthwhile.

Out of all the XMODS fans in here, there aren't any RS employees?

Dont like the idea seems a little pricey for a used xmod with no controller

I didn't notice more power with 4 I-C3's comepared to 4 alkalines, but the run time is sooooo much longer. Rayovac says they charge in 15 OR less. I haven't found time to time them.

You can get a 2 cell charger for $20 and 4 AAA's for $13.

You can probably get 84 AAA alkalines for $35.

So if you plan to run your car more than 21 times...:D

And you can sell your I-C3 stuff b/c it's all reusable, unlike alkalines.

And...If you have or plan on buying another car, you should buy the $27 4 cell charger and a set of AAA's for each car.

I have 3 cars and 12 I-C3's now. I regret getting the 2 cell charger.

I got mine from Wal-Mart. I would go with custom battery setup if you change the voltage. I would go with I-C3's if you go with simple 4, 5, or 6 AAA's.

I'm gonna talk to the idiot guys at the store closest to me, b/c the RS I usually go to, the guys don't get many returns. The RS in Westwood, NJ is great! Anyone who lives near them and is dissatified w/ their RS should go there. Unlike most of the stores I've been in, these guys actually know what they're talking about! :D

I picked up a skyline at one of the RS shops by me for $30 bucks. it was just missing a right side mirror. wooo. anyways i already f'd up the paint job so now i have to figure out a way to get it all off and start over. anyway, i had to call 10 rs shops to find one that would sell me a returned one. I talked to the manager and asked him to hold any returns of the xmods he gets b/c i'd call ever other week or so to see if he had any, and he gave me his card and said "OK".
