metal U-joints
i was wondering why the people at XMODS go off and make such a vital part as a U joint out of plastic. (seeing how i just ripped one apart w/ the torque of my spinbrush motor) so i was wondering if there was anyone interested in machining some aluminium ones for me (i dont wanna hand fabricate such a precise part) ill pay for everything if someone can do it. email me at blackhawk@echoes.net

i see post of them breaking, but i put some in my neomag powered minix (way too much torque) and they are holdin up fine. i have ran it front wheel drive, rear wheel drive, and 4wd with no problem. i have tried to see what their limit is with launching as hard as i can (with anti punch) and breaking hard (abs equiped) and they show no damage. but metal ones would be nice to see still. especially after this thing goes all out rally ;p

Yes I need them also !!!!

hello,
i have been working on just your broblem. i think that aluminum will work fine. the proto type is in this material. i am a machinist with access to machining centers and nothing aginst you 3series takumi but hand grinding is not the answer. cnc is. i will have some pics soon. if you need to see my work look here for some wheels i made. http://www.geocities.com/wjhecox/car_wheels.jpg |
i agree, i would never hand grind those parts
|
Well, at least hes trying. thats more than i have done.
I wouldnt even have attempted that. |
I need those metal joint cups!
Anyone need any of these? I got this when I ordered 2 left joint cups and 1 center joint cup. I got 1 left joint cup and these... http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...4/f9cf0424.jpg |
as of today 2 of my cars are down b/c of the left cup joints.
craftsman, can you cell me some? In the meantime, I'm going to buy 4 left joint cups. Update: left cup joints are on backorder, 2-3 weeks. I need to try to make my own. The bright side it...I only need to make 2. |
Craftsman I'm am definitely interested. A lot of people need these so good luck keeping up with demand!

random - lets see some carbon fiber ehh? to neuro - congrats on being a moderator |
craftsman, what are they made of? i hope they can handle 9V power with a 30K motor.
|
Man do those things look great! I installed a new motor and 30 seconds after turning it on I broke the axle. The thing that puzzles me is that everyone says that they are snapping the drivers side (left) cup. But I snapped the passenger side (right) one. Either way I need some hardcore metal shiznit. I just joined this site 5 minutes ago. I was browsin' for parts and came across this site. I found more info here than anywhere else yet! If anyone can help me "cough!"(craftsman) I would appreciate it. Also is there a fast place to order stock replacements from for now? Thanks to everyone who knows more than I do!!!!!!! I'm CRAZYGONUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!

so, any plans on making some wheels for us die hard muscle car modders? say, for maybe a 69 shelby mustang????? LOL Or any other HOT ROD? Some typical "mags" or rally wheels would be cool. Just a suggestion or a "hint" hehehe
|
i have an order for some 69 camaro rally wheels that i almost have done. is that kind of what you mean?
|
thanks for all the feedback guys but i took the initative upon myself and made some outta some screws. ended up w/ a lil accident though... got 2 pieces of steel in my eye even w/ saftey glasses! sucks big time so be careful guys!

yeah, something like that. not so "imported". Something that you would put on an old muscle car to make it look mean. the center line wheels you made for someone look tight. something Like these......(as an example) |
good ideas
the two on the right look not to difficult and could be done in a reasonalble amount of time the one on the left top would require alot of solid surfing and would take some time but if you want i can do it. thanks |
I kinda like the one in the top right. It should be easy because its like the centerline ones you did but with added holes? anyways.....just checking to see if you can do ones like hot rods have. I dont have $$ to have you do them yet. I just spent my extra cash on a new white supra and 2 extra bodies for it. LOL
|
Today I ran my RSX hard with the st2 drift motor. All the parts held up really well. My RSX is RWD.
|
i'm interested, except it's not the cups that keep breaking on my xmod, it's the T part of the axle that goes into the cup. would the price include axles and cups?
|
i have not made the ajoining part as of yet. but i do have it drawn up. just need to find the time. thanks for the idea and i will do it as soon as i can.
|
I got my aluminium cups yesterday, and they definitely meet my expectations. They look great, and fit perfectly.
As a suggestion on the dogbones, I think using steel roll pins might be the way to go, as I don't know how well the pins would hold up made out of aluminium. I know on larger scale RC, that is often how they are done. |
