Tripmate Release

Our Japanese distributor has informed us that the Mid TM2500 series will be available starting June 17th! Would people be interested if we stocked them in the Shop?

Ted theMechanic 06-07-2002 12:39 PM

YES

.

Oman 06-07-2002 01:25 PM

Yes, but the question is how much??
is it RTR?
What kind of badies available?
....

Ted theMechanic 06-07-2002 02:49 PM

Who gives a toss about bodies?

From what I've seen, Kawada has no bodies.
However, mini-z bodies should fit, since the overall dimentions of the MID 24 are similar to the Z.

The reason I'd like to have one is... no one can tell it's NOT a mini-z, under a mini-z body. And I really expect the Kawada layout to outperform a mini-z. Which, to be honest, really isn't that great to drive.

Especially when compared to the mini-z Formula 1 cars, and the Tamtech.

Btman 06-07-2002 03:38 PM

I would be interested to see the price on these. I would also like to know how they perform compared to an ABC DTM-SP or Dynamite Rocket Racer. It will probably handle better than a Mini-z out of the box I would imagine because of the motor location. The side mounted batteries may limit battery choices and affect handling compared to an ABC or Rocket racer. Do you know whether it has an adjustable ball or gear diff standard? Also what type of radio gear would fit? Would the electronics from a Rocket Racer, DTM-SP or Mini-x fit. If the car is available with electronics (receiver/servo/speed control) minus transmitter like the mini-x for about $100 or $130-150 with transmitter it could be very successful. I like the direction small scale RC is going. There are so many models to choose from, it is starting to look like 1/12 or 1/10 scale road racing. The more the better!!!

Any news yet on the release of the M-24 and the new Yokomo?

tinyrc 06-18-2002 07:31 PM

Yes: if people are interested, we can start taking pre-orders now, there is a choice of RX-7 or S2000 shell, both are $89. If you're interested, please let us know, and we will add them to the Shop.

Oman 06-19-2002 01:42 AM

when will u be getting them in??

tinyrc 06-19-2002 11:22 AM

They were supposed to be available mid-June, but are now expected to be available at the beginning of July. Kawada are sending us a few for evaluation, so we'll have more info etc. once those are received.

Oman 06-19-2002 12:47 PM

ooohhh free samples...do we get samples as well??

Btman 06-19-2002 03:29 PM

What do you need as far as electronics to get one of these running? Will they offer a RTR version with electronics or a version with receiver/speed control/servo minus transmitter like the mini-x packages? Or, can you disect a Kyosho Mini-z and use the speed control/receiver/servo from it. One of the things that make the Rocket Racer nice is the price including electronics. A tripmate would be nice if it cost about the same as a mini-x with receiver/speed control/servo or a Rocket Racer or Mini-z. I just sold my micro RS4 so I may still give the tripmate a try. After years of being in this hobby, 1/24 and 1/27 scale has generated the most excitement for me.

tinyrc 06-20-2002 09:52 PM

There is no RTR in the works at the moment. Kawada told us that they recommend that people use the ESC/Rx/Servo from the previous Tripmate (but they weren't sure what the availability on that would be!) - I think that it will probably make more sense to put your own set together to be able to handle hotter motors etc. We'll know more once ours arrive obviously.

Ted theMechanic 06-21-2002 11:52 AM

And do remember to check out the price and availability of BALL-BEARINGS.
Alternatively, get the dimentions. And NO, not just the inner & outer diametre, but the WIDTH too...

Oh almost forgot, by the images on the Kawada webpage, it looks like there's FLANGED bearings...?

Driving ANY mini-racer without ball-bearings is no fun.

irc 06-28-2002 01:45 AM

This new Kawada looks great. I have a few of the older Tripmates and they are very good cars. I use the tamtech electronics in them but it looks like the new M-24 kit is a little smaller so the big Tamtech servo might not fit. I will be trying the Mini X electronic set in mine when it arrives as it should all fit with no problem and the price is good for the compleate RS set. The X bodies should fit to and at $5.00 it's well worth a try.

MOPARMAN 06-29-2002 06:00 AM

I would like to preorder two of the Kawada M24 tripmate MID.

I also have a brand new set of electronics (Rx, servo, transmitter,) from my original Kawada M24 tripmate that was never opened at all.

Please, this looks like a great item, mainly i want to mount my own bodies. WoWWWWWW

My email address is aceofbase000@yahoo.com.

thank you so much,
nav;)

tinyrc 06-29-2002 09:27 AM

Welcome to the Forums MOPARMAN! I'll email you details on the MID, they should be here early next week. Thanks!

feishiaada 07-03-2002 01:03 PM

hi tinyrc,
is there any information on final pricing for the m24 mid?
and as well,
i remember seeing somewhere that kawada will be selling
a cpr unit for the MID?
but it seems like it's just a components package
including the es-01 speed control, some receiver, and some servo...
and...i've tried out the same setup on the mini-z
and as NML confirmed, it comes out a bit heavier than
before....any idea if this will be the case with the MID?
or perhaps the MID has a lighter chassis...hmm...
definitely hope so :)

feishiaada 07-03-2002 01:04 PM

oops, just saw the pricing post now :)
but anyways, have you received your sample kits yet?
wondering how they perform...

tinyrc 07-03-2002 01:58 PM

They literally just arrived, so we haven't had a chance to check them out much yet, but the initial reaction is that they look pretty cool! We got the RX-7s; basically they look like the Mini-Z hacker's dream, instead of having to pile a micro Rx, ES-01 etc. on your Z, this has a wide open cavity for you to cram w/ electronics. I'll keep you posted as we put this together, we will probably use a Mini-X RS set for the ESC/Rx/Servo.

MOPARMAN, can you email us, when we tried to email you @yahoo it failed.

tinyrc 07-05-2002 03:20 PM

MOPARMAN, did you get our recent email? It appeared to go through, but since we had problems before and haven't heard back from you we weren't sure?

Here's a page from Kawada's 2002 Catalog showing the details of the M-24 Mid:

Here is a poster that Kawada sent us, check out how adjustable the wheelbase and width is!

MicroRCEngineering 07-08-2002 07:11 PM

tinyrc,

Can you email me on availability and pricing? Thanks.

tinyrc 07-08-2002 07:18 PM

Will do right away - thanks!

Tiny

TinyRC, how is the Kawada handleing....whats better..miniz or the kawada?

how many sets do u have avail?? my buddies and I are trying to decide miniz or kawada..

tinyrc 07-11-2002 10:51 PM

Oman, the handling is great, and they can be tweaked a lot more, like 1/10 scales. Email us and I'll help answer your questions to see which makes the most sense for you guys.

heuerfan 07-19-2002 09:33 AM

Questions........

Is the wheelbase adjustable from 90-120, or is it only 90mm or 120mm. I'm sure its adjustable thru 90-120, but just want to double check.

I got some 1/24 scale supra models that i'm dying to mount on this car.

I got the rocket racer off of ebay for a very cheap price, but inorder to mount the bodies, i would have to drill holes.

Hey Admin, will you be getting Supra bodies by Kawada? I know they used to make these.

Thanks!

tinyrc 07-19-2002 09:45 AM

90-120mm, it has a really cool slide and set system; if you're familiar with the Mini-Z which is adjustable via the H-plate placement, then you'll love this. Instead of the unscrewing and screwing back into other holes, this one you just lift up the beam, slide it to the desired length, and then drop it back down into the locking /\/\/\/\/\/\ edges. No word of a Supra body being available yet, just the RX-7 and S2000 at the moment. And with the really cool mounting system and adjustable length and width, you can put just about any body on these. Plus you can directly mount Mini-Z bodies!

heuerfan 07-19-2002 10:15 AM

Thanks Admin for the quick reply!

tinyrc 07-19-2002 10:25 AM

No problem, let me know if you have any other questions as I think I'm one of only a few people in the US who has beheld on of these!

MOPARMAN 07-19-2002 12:10 PM

Rocket Racer

I got 4 Rocket Racers. I play with one of them, and I stored away the rest.

Also I have one mini-z dodge viper, 2 Tamtechs, and 1 Kawada Tripmate.

The Rocket Racers are my favorite. The performance is the same as the mini-z, but it handles better. Also its a Ready to Run, and you can mount your own bodies easily.

In fact, I am selling all my 1/10 scales very cheap. These 1/10 trucks are brand new, and hopped up and specially prepared by my local hobby store. These 2 trucks have never been used and are brand new.

Please contact me for more info, cause I am basically giving them away.

My email address is aceofbase000@yahoo.com

Thank you so much,
Navindra

ONE QUESTION (again)

Ball-bearings, which size? Flanged or not?

Since you're offering closeup pics, I'd like to see one of a dismantled rear axle. Showing the diff and the bearings in particular.

Thanks

tinyrc 07-20-2002 12:35 PM

Ted, do you mean on the Tripmate (this thread) or the Rocket Racer (from the previous post)?

Ted theMechanic 07-20-2002 12:46 PM

Kawada mid

You see, my mates and I have quite a few small scale racers. Three of us have (alltogether) 7 Tamtechs, 1 Fujimi RS and 5 mini-z's. (3xF1+2xracer). These are only the complete and operative cars...

The other day one of my friends stumbled upon a Mini-X in a shop here in Scandinavia. Which means I have to get something different. This autumn I'll buy SOMETHING and currently the choise is between the KAWADA MID or an ABC X4. Hmmm...

I therefore try to gather some info on both :)

tinyrc 07-20-2002 12:52 PM

No problem, I'll get the Kawada pics for you shortly.
