tips to keep ur car in good shape(well not the body)

i got one tip from my friend guce, after u get sone racing for the night take the wheels off and get the fuzz and what not out of the wheels and axel.
if anyone else has tips post them :bdrop:

TypeZer0 11-13-2003 08:31 PM

i do that every 5 minutes cuz i got nothign but carpet at home. i recommend a can of air duster to get the dust out from places you normally need tweezers or disassembly to clean.

viperkilla 11-13-2003 09:53 PM

I just use a damp cloth and wipe my XMOD because it gets dusty from my basement.

mustang_steve 11-13-2003 11:06 PM

for tire and misc fine cleaning, use disposable alcohol wipes...not those "wet-nap" peices of junk, but those disposable "lens-cleaning" cloths that use nothing but alcohol in them. Beware though, isopropyl alcohol is a very effective de-greasing agent.

It sure does make your axles shine though :)

Toothpicks make for great quick cleaners for your gears...just gently slide out any large peices of matter frm the gears. It's great for those times you know a deep cleaning will be pointless since it will get dirty again in 2 mins anyways.

Oh and the bit char-g run-in trick works as well, since all it really does is wear down the gears to the point of running smoothly. Also cuts back the noise level of the car by a reasonable amount.

The can of Air-Duster is a must.

TypeZer0 11-14-2003 09:11 AM

don't let the alcohol touch the body, it took out my red paint

I'd like to know this also. I did a search on Tiny but didn't find anything about a Bit run-in.

security civic 11-16-2003 09:18 PM

yes i as well would like to no

major skyline 11-16-2003 09:22 PM

the run trick is to take your car, flip it over and use a ruber band to hold down the trigger on the remote. now just let it run for about 5-10 mins
:bdrop::bled:b2spd:bts::bsh:bbgtr

jaubery 11-16-2003 10:08 PM

Take the bevel gear out if you want get real technical. That allows the motor to spin with little resistance. Run forward for 5 to 10 minutes then do it in reverse for another 5 or 10 minutes.

security civic 11-16-2003 10:13 PM

major do u ever come to douglasville, cause thats where me and a few other ppl race (arborplace mall)

RedRSX 11-16-2003 10:29 PM

What is so good about letting the motor run for 5-10 minutes???

SKYHIGH 11-17-2003 12:24 AM

I thought he said it was to clean out the gears, if that is why would you take out thee "bevel" gear?

security civic 11-17-2003 01:25 PM

my motor cuts off after about 3 min of constantly running upsidedown

skklown 11-17-2003 04:09 PM

benskins...wut part of akron do u live in? i also live in akron.

security civic 11-24-2003 05:24 PM

everytime u got to take the battery packs off the chasie remove the batteries so they wont break the wires and screw u over like it did to me (for the 5th time):bdrop:

_revhards13 11-24-2003 05:55 PM

thew whole run for 10 mins thing is just to round off the gear and make it run smoother and quieter... a great idea imo!

Tip- always take out your batteries
Reason- If you remove your crystal without removing your batteries you run teh risk of frying your electronics...

Tip- use the black rubber peices that come with your car on teh axels to hold the tire on tighter
Reason- it will keep your wheels looking better, in some extreme cases you will notice paint chipping off from there being so much slack...

Tip- find a small carrying case for your spare parts as it will make them easier to keep track of...
Reason- in tip!

security civic 11-24-2003 08:00 PM

:drools: ohhh yeah thanks for the tip rev..........................mmmmmm avatar
keep posting

Speak of the devil, this just happend to me 20 mins ago... now im going to order a whole new pcb/transmitterboard, and servo assy from the 1-800 number.. ill post pics as i do it...

viperkilla 11-24-2003 08:10 PM

This isnt really a tip but, after every time you run your XMOD wipe the tires, chassis and tires with a damp cloth. This will get rid of any dust or rocks in your XMOD.

security civic 11-24-2003 08:12 PM

man that sux rev good luck with the fixing

_revhards13 11-24-2003 08:22 PM

thanks... i dont knwo what to expect... i need to get a hold of CJ, and see if he knows anything about the parts that i can get from the 1800 number

corysmith 11-26-2003 12:03 AM

CLEAN IT! i went 2 days of driving it on "clean" wood floors atthe Y raquetball courts, and its real dirty, taking it all apart and spraying it all down with cleaner, accept electrical parts of course

security civic 11-26-2003 11:59 AM

use a soft tooth brush to go over everything:bdrop:

I drive mine outside all the time and it just gets a little scraped up thts all

mustang_steve 11-28-2003 03:29 PM

The Bit Ghar-g run in trick does require the gears in the car.

This is not to burn-in your motor, but to wear in your "clean" gearing so they have less rolling resistance. This gives you a very slight increase in speed, but the more important part is the lower noise level the car runs at. Most of the noise though seems to be from the differential, and the run-in trick does not seem to work well with it. Plus my differntial is kinda screwed right now, one wheel consistantly gets more power than the other, hopefully RS gets replacement parts soon, so I can get a few of these since this last one only lasted about 12 hours.

I also need a:
new passenger mirror, I broke it off in a freak collision with a steel cabinet

another 1.5 tie rod, bent mine a bit beyond repair, same collision

New lugs, just cause I'm too lazy to go to mr. metric to buy some.

New hard treads, cause I wear em out like mad

Kinda shows how hard I run these things......the cabinet incident was where I lost grip and sideswiped the cabinet going full-bore. Since then, my car veers to the right constantly, and changing the tie rod fixed it, but now I run more camber than I like...oh well can't have it all when your broke :p

Shiporu 11-28-2003 07:01 PM

I use cotton swabs and baby wipes... because the swabs can reach where my fingers cannot reach. (if you are in a rush) but I use the baby wipes when I am finished for the day. I always race my friend outside. works for me:)

aero528 11-28-2003 07:07 PM

hey mustange steve, i just ordered two new diffs from rs, so they do have replacment parts. they will be here in 5-10 days! my diff is totaly messed up!! it does not transfer ANY power to the wheels. the inside where the saft goes in is striped.

security civic 11-30-2003 04:25 AM

never let ur bat wire touch ur antena wire (exsposed ends) or u will fry it like mine

security civic 12-07-2003 03:16 AM

when ur taking ur wheels of always make sure u get the bearing or bushings back in when u clean out around them cause if one isnt in there right it slows down big time

tavisjohn 12-07-2003 01:11 PM

Wiping down the body, rims, tires, and any other flat smooth surface with a dryer sheet will reduce the ammount of dust and dirt that sticks to your car. (Anti static)

If you run on carpet, vacumb just before you play, that will help reduce the ammount of dust and dirt in the carpet, and also help reduce what sticks to your car.

Use a tiny brush like you would find in a beard trimmer, or in the Zip Zaps tool kit, to clean the hard to reach places. Q-Tips work OK, but they could snag and leave fibers in the berrings.

When you clean your car body, use a mild all surface cleaner and a soft cloth. Do not use paper towel or tissues. Paper products are course and will scratch your body, especially if you have a custom paint job.

Use Extra Fine Powder Graphite on your axels, or any parts you want to lube up. If you use anything that is liquid based it will attract dirt and dust.

security civic 12-24-2003 02:55 PM

when ur driving out side take ur kit off and put on the stock kit and take the mirrors off so u dont scratch or break anything
u should c my stock kit
