the ultimate XMOD!!!
1 Attachment(s)
well after discovering how bad the original electronics in the x mods SUCK, I decided to make a few modifications...this one will have all new electronics, a pico servo for steering, a 10 amp micro ESC for throttle and a custom 6 cell 7.2 volt pack...I cut out the mounts inside the chassis that used to hold the stock electronics and removed the battery holders...I already tested the motor with these cells and lets just say I had to glue the tires on...it will be fast! more to come...

dang.. wont that be heavy thouhg?? lol
...
um...no...
Ummmm..WOW! I can't wait to see this thing. How much will of the electronics cost? Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy hobby class car, but I guess that wouldn't be the point now huh?
hehe
i already have 3 fully modded mini z's...this is just messin around...besides I already have all the stuff to do it with...
wow!
cant wait to see it how fast do you think it will go? |
I'll be really interested in seeing the progress on this one...
thanks...
I took my awd mod off so I see what kind if improvements these alterations make...after I will put it back on...because surely it will need it...lol
That is freakin' amazing!
well...
just shoved all the electronics in and test drove it...WOW!!!fast as he** I need to shoot a video to prove I'm not talkin smack....lemme finish the electronics install and I'll make a small video...
also take some pics:D
btw if you need to host a video i can do it for you up to 30mb.:p |
ok...

i guess 10mb will be enough:D
great work. Did you glue the batteries on. how do u change the batteries when they run out?
haha, nice dude, can't wait to see vids, eventhough u already had the parts, can u give out an approx. price of the parts and where we could buy them???
change the batteries?
these are nickel metal hydride (rechargeable) they recharge in under 5 minutes and last for about 15 minutes of full throttle racing...and I will make a list of all the stuff used and the prices and where to get them after its all finished!
Im stupid so bare with me, how do you charge those batteries?
haha you are not stupid you helped so many people here at forums and, yeah i am wondering too how do you chrage them?
um...er...
with a charger....I have a megatech peak charger....and a few others but thats the one I use for these...
charging batts
I know from racing 1/10 scale touring cars you charge the batts with aligator clips from a peak charger, unless he puts a connector on the batts. With that size batteries he probably want to adjust the volt charge to .5amps to only 1.0amps.
haha
I posted a little too late cobra
hehe
is ok...I put a mini plug on the battery pack...so all I do is plug it in to the charger and in 5 minutes its ready to rock...
does the body even fit on there?
i dunno ifi would classify that as an XMod..... its like calling the funny car mustangs mustangs.... know what i mean? the only thing they share in common is like the body or something like that..... but cool none the less |
I've put a servo and a speed control on my car that broke. It ended up being RWD and i had to cut the shaft in order to fit the servo in. the speed control sat on top of the servo and the receiver was stuck on the inside rear bumper. It worked fine but my speed control was cheap and broke. I'm problably going to re do the whole car again. I'll have pics sometime soon. The steering and throttle feel WAY better. I used a cirrus mirco servo, an Orion flash speed control, and a Futaba digital radio system. I'll probably get it goin when i get more money for another speed control.

yes...

How fast can the XMOD go? And how do long do the batteries last?
errr.....waitaminute
IMHO, once you rip out ALL the guts, save for the chassis and wheels, it's really no longer an XMOD is it?????? You should've just saved some bux by buying a blank mini-z chassis and a crystal to match one of your controllers and then cannibalized the broken mini-z cars
...
ya that makes a lot of sense...think before you type please.
...
I love my mini z and it'll smoke my xmod but the xmod has awd and thats what made me buy it. If you want to have it 2wd then yeah buy a mini z but but for awd you have this and a mini x. (I kind wish I got one of those though.) but the xmod is pretty good for 70 bucks with an awd kit. I have the same idea kingcobra has an awd 1/24 scale car with "hobby grade" electronics.
Very nice job. I need to learn how to solder :) I was appreciating your work last night and saw what looks to be the same battery setup this morning:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ayphotohosting Thought it was cool to see the same battery layout on a retail model car. Never heard of that RC, but I've been watching ebay for any 1/24 scale stuff to spend my "anything points" on. Wish there were more Mini-X parts on ebay since I've got the points to burn ($25) and its my only RC currently, but I guess I'll just have to get something else :P |
I think I have you beat, I've got a carbon fiber chassis and am running 8 cells with an Orion Elite Mod motor and Flash ESC. As soon as my batteries and ESC get here I should have one mean mother. And yes it is still an Xmod.
what size batteries are you both using? one looks like AAA and the other i think might look like sub-c size but not really sure.
Thats hot dude. It seems xmods have become a glorified source of suspension for many people :P So where did you get the CF chassis? And as for the batts, I'm going to guess 5/4 AAA. What electronics are you using on it?
Im using Gold peak AAAA cells they are rated at 300 mah capacity and 1.2v but I peak charged them yesterday to 12.1 v. I made the chassis using my Dremel.here is a link to some finished chassis pics. Click here
Thats a whole lotta V. Where'd you get the CF plate to dremel up? Did you find CF easy to work with using your dremel or is this not your first time? I've read so many posts about people wanting to do CF, but I've only seen a handful actually do it. Very cool.
Oh yea, and how fast does that thing go on 12.1V?! |
Where can one buy all those hoppy grade electronice. And can that special servo wire onto a xmod esc? My servo took a crap and now I need a replacement and wouldnt mind upgrading. Oh and how much did all the electronics run you. Thanks
Also Can I get some parts numbers or more descriptive names of the different servos and esc that can be used. Can the stock lights be used with the aftermarket esc?
nice whens it gonna be finished
