How to protect your front end from rocks!

Here is what you need... I picked everything up at Ben Franklin Crafts or you can get it at Michaels.

1/8" Foamtastic foam sheets to match the colors of your car.
Thin double sided tape.
Somekind of glue.
X-acto knife.

1. Now, cut out your pieces the size and shape of the front of your car.
2. Cut out openings for your grill, vents, and lights.
3. Cut matching pieces to fill those openings in the needed color foam.
4. Glue your pieces together.

Now install the double sided tape to the back side.

And slap it on your car.

Now go find those rocks!

airline2 10-19-2003 03:33 PM

can you take it off

Bad Company 10-19-2003 03:35 PM

BTW, I was able to find every color for all of the current cars and lights.

With the particular brand tape I used, I am able to remove it easily without talking off the paint or finish on the car. It also holds really well.

I would suggest that you only leave it on there when you are driving outside where you need it, and then take it off when you are done. You can always put new tape on to restick it if need be. As with most adhesives, the longer you let it stick, the tougher it is to get off.

airline2 10-19-2003 03:38 PM

so it depends on the brand of tape you buy. and it looks good.

Micro S2000 10-19-2003 04:08 PM

one thing i've done is, use clear hockey tape. just cut it stick it on and your done. it sticks good but when you tear it off, the tape is sorta like rubber, it all comes off in one piece and doenst leave any sticky residue

Bad Company 10-19-2003 04:11 PM

Is hockey tape padded where it would protect from dents and dings or does it just prevent scratches?

Micro S2000 10-19-2003 04:13 PM

hmm, i guess it would be mostly for scratches but would help prevent dings and it would help keep the front end looking nice when driving in the street

Bad Company 10-19-2003 04:16 PM

I might have to try some out. What would be nice is some kind of clear protective film that could be stuck on the roof, hood, and sides for when you flip or something and scratch your body, it would scratch the film instead, and you could just replace the film as needed.

jamgunner 10-19-2003 04:46 PM

multiple layers of saran wrap possibly?

atomikplayboy 10-19-2003 05:08 PM

I know it's kinda 80s but I wonder if there would be a way to make something like a leather car bra using that foam from the Ben Franklin store...

Hmmm....Good idea. It would just be a matter of cutting the shape of the nose out and then cutting the holes out for the headlights. Let me see what I can do.

Sure thing. I didn't cut mine very neatly though, I was in the middle of watching a movie while doing it.

I got a question....I noticed in the mini mag, the front air dam lights were orange, but mine are clear. Is everyone elses clear?

ridealot100 10-20-2003 08:24 PM

thanks man that does look really good. i will be doin this in the future (were do you come up with these things):p

See that little avatar under my name. That really is me at work. After 8 hours of that, it clears my head and ideas pop out.

ridealot100 10-20-2003 08:30 PM

i gotta get one of those and put a day at school. thats pretty much me to. except i dont get ideas like that. great thinkn. and the wheel mods already. nice

Bad Company 10-20-2003 08:50 PM

Thanks.
If you want a quick fix, or don't like the idea of sticking tape on your body, you could just cut a straight piece the matching color and use the same colored rubber band and wrap it thru the front wheel wells and around the foam to hold it on.
