Ideas for modding Xmods.

I've been brainstorming in anticipation of the Xmods. Maybe we can all post some ideas for mods we can try on our Xmods here to keep us busy until they get here.

The first one I can think of is for lowering the cars. It's fairly easy and pretty much done the way some lower their real cars. I have yet to see the springs, but maybe you can just cut out a few of the coils to give the chassis a lower ride. Think it will work?

airline2 10-06-2003 07:35 PM

in the mini mag it's say's that is not a good idea to cut the springs

Bad Company 10-06-2003 07:45 PM

Yeah, and Radioshack said it wasn't good to mess with the Zip Zaps.

ridealot100 10-06-2003 08:41 PM

lol funny yet so true. i gotta get some underglow with all that room. oh and for wheel mods you could buy one of those huge dub city cars and use the wheels because some of those have spinners or spree weels

itsalllies 10-06-2003 08:54 PM

if you want to lower and are thinking like a real car drill a small hole in the plactic that the spring is on and stick a metal bar in the hole and make shere it wont snap under the preser remove when you want a stock car this is a trick used with formula car but they raise the car so it can pass inspaction and of the start when the car goes the bar snaps and it goes to the ground :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

outlawblaze 10-06-2003 08:55 PM

Well I'll try to keep this short but I have a xmod already, I work for franchise radioshack and we already got 2 of them.

As for lowering them the chassis already sits really low, lowering the body is a possibility.

also the style motor that is in them is very common and we should be able to find some sick hobby motors for them, it looks like the mini-z motors will fit without a problem.

any questions just ask!

vtheo 10-06-2003 09:14 PM

hmm, i am thinking of the other direction... wanna take these things offroad.... hey outlaw... write as much as you want you are one of the few owners of one right now....also on some other forum (not the OTHER forum) i saw a guy mention he had a mitzubishi....

oOfrog_BoyOo 10-06-2003 09:15 PM

hey howabout internal antenna just like a mini z one get a rectangle of lexan and drill some holes on easch on the long sieds thred ur antenna throu it and put on ur body

Bad Company 10-06-2003 09:21 PM

Speaking of wheel mods, I've seen some metal custom wheels for 1/24 scale models at my local hobby shop. They come all kinds of different styles. You can bet I'm gonna do some crazy wheel mods just like I did with the Zips.

Actually that was probably me you saw about the mitsubishi, I was tired and not thinking clear when I typed that but I corrected myself farther down the post.

I'll just add here what I just added on another thread maybe it will have some good information for you guys.

well as far as a review I'm not sure what to say but I'll try.

This is very well built car, everything is screwed together and the parts are well made.

You have to screw the hood, bumpers, side skirts, spoiler and mirrors on the car.

This is not a good car for kids to work on without help it is going to be alot more work to change the parts on these cars (i.e. there are 4 screws that hold the motor in and you have to almost completely take aprt the whole car to install the awd kit)

The car is fairly quick right out of the box. It uses the same style motor as the mini-z and runs on 4 AAA's

Handling is also nice, but it would be nice if you could turn the wheels farther.

I have read that the car could achive 20mph with their best motor and gear setup, but with some of the hobby motors available and battery upgrades we might see close to 30mph if the rumor was correct.

I will try to get some pics up but my computer is running the Lindos OS, so I will have to try to do it at work.

If you have any more questions fire away! my AOL screen name is rnorth2156, feel free to contact me.

Bad Company 10-07-2003 05:03 AM

Thanks for the info outlawblaze! I'm looking foreward to experimenting with the motors and seeing what we can slap in these babies and what works. This is gonna be fun.

jamgunner 10-07-2003 09:44 AM

what kind of runtimes are you seeing? also i assume that using rechargarble aaa's will be the only (resonable) way to go?

vtheo 10-07-2003 12:26 PM

threads are jumping left and right lol, we got a xmods forum now... and if my eyes dont decieve me, BC is the mod, Congrats on the promotion...(i think it would be considered a promotion)

For the few that have them, is the wheelbase adjustable? and what is it? we gotta get the miniz bodies on them

TypeZer0 10-07-2003 01:32 PM

first thign to do, find a place for a two battery holder and go with 5 or 6 NiMH batteries

then, if anyone decides to get the rsx or civic, get the awd kit and take out the rear diff to make it fwd for realism

next, probably find a way to raise it abit or have it easily height adjustable

maybe, if i have the money, get one of those wireless cameras, probably the pinhole type so we can get a driver's view or something

Micro S2000 10-07-2003 03:24 PM

for so long every one has been saying :bdrop: i never thought i'd see some one request :blift:

outlawblaze 10-07-2003 03:34 PM

Well as far as runtime I'm not sure yet. I've spent more time with it torn apart than anything but I have run it for about 20 min. and the batterys are still good

Wheel base is adjustable, 3 postion haven't measured it yet though

viperkilla 10-07-2003 03:39 PM

Hey Bad Company, I just realized you are the moderator for the XMOD forum. That must be cool. Congraduations man. :)

vtheo 10-07-2003 03:48 PM

haha, i have also lifted a zz, with a little triming of the chassis, and some of the super swampers from motorworks.. look at some pictures, (dont remember where) look like there is gonna be upgrade rim, which are wider... it seems like rs is making all the mods that we have done to the ZZs, and some we have only dreamt about... awd... mmmm

Thanks, I'm also a moderator over all thing Zip Zaps.

Hopefully, with these cars being closer to scale with some of the larger rc's, we'll see some aftermarket parts, or at least be able to do our own transplants from other car makes. I think there is a lot of potential here.

airline2 10-07-2003 04:19 PM

that is very true bad company when should you have your xmod

Bad Company 10-07-2003 04:21 PM

He told me 3-4 days, and that I could possibly see it Friday, but if not, it will be Monday then.

airline2 10-07-2003 04:21 PM

they could be in stores by monday

Bad Company 10-07-2003 04:24 PM

That is true, but like I said before, I'm not losing anything. He didn't charge me shipping. So at the very least, my name is already on those items, and they can't be sold to someone else. I would have bought them anyway.

airline2 10-07-2003 04:35 PM

if i did the math right he did charge like $5.00 for shipping i did add tax

Bad Company 10-07-2003 04:43 PM

Stage 2 Motor Upgrade $15.99
Foam Tire & Wheel Upgrade $7.99

I left my mini mag on my desk at work. I didn't use that to order my stuff anyway.

Paintjob

Hi everone,

I´m from germany. With a little luck a friend of mine will send me a XMod Supra in a few weeks. When I get mine I will try to paint it like the supra from "The Fast and the Furious". Will make new Spoiler and Decals with my color-laserprinter.

Also, I will try to put light and bottom-lights in/on it.

Greetings from germany

Joe

Joe_cool you gave me a good idea i am going the turn my skyline in to the 2f 2f skyline with a lot of work i mean on the sides

sessiz10 10-07-2003 09:40 PM

I'm liking the pinhole camera idea.
I think I'm also going to go with the cell idea first. I'm sure there is room somewheres to add a 4cell pack, if not then I will have to make room.:p
I read somewhere that there's a motor heat thing going on with the stage 2 (?) motor and that a heatsink is added to the upgrade package. So maybe the extra cells will be a lil too much for RS motors?

Heat is a problem in any motor. The motors that they use don't look like the have any bearings in them so the shafts spinning in those bushings will build up heat. Hopefully as time goes on or we find out what parts of the mini rcs can fit we might be able to rebuild or make our own motors with ball bearings in them to reduce heat and increase power output.

itsalllies 10-09-2003 07:58 AM

are the xmods 200mm

cj1267 10-09-2003 11:24 PM

The mod I'd like to do and don't know if it can be done yet. Would be to convert it to a pan chassis. Looking at the pics so far with some custom machined parts one could make it only rear wheel drive and a pn chassis.

rucrazy4rc 10-10-2003 09:26 PM

xmods,mods

first of all a megatech miniz motor high speed , high torgue ,an external turbo and the AWD kit, thats it for now, hope the turbo don't fry the circuits

vtheo 10-13-2003 01:14 AM

anything is possible cj :p you should know that

:blift: i just hope that it will be very easy to do.. get some big overlander tires and some custom shocks... do some off roading... with 4wd

llester 10-16-2003 01:35 PM

From what I can tell the mini-z is the same size, however the snapping mech is different. The body should fit with some slight modification.

I have seen some people use the fron latch and use velcro for the rear.

I currently working on a Miata body for mine and i was lucky cause the rear deck was the perfact size to allow me to screw the latch on from the skyline body. so when Im finished my Car body will snap on and off just as easy as the OEM ones.

I will post PICs as soon as Im done painting and detailing...

MicroSpeed 10-16-2003 02:47 PM

I went to my RS today and they had both the white and red supra, and then all the hop-ups exept for the ball-differential
