What happened to BitChar-G's?

I haven't been checking out anything about these cars since it got warm. The last time I checked E-bay there literally were thousands of BitChar-G related items. Now I can find only seven. I am just wondering what I missed.

takdrk 09-23-2003 08:04 PM

Well it helps if you put a space between Bit and Char-G, but then I still only get 83 items.

Yugo DSC Maxxer 09-23-2003 08:47 PM

They are still cool!
Look at all the people here!

takdrk 09-24-2003 06:13 AM

I know they are still cool. I was just hoping to score on some cheap parts and cars! ;-)

Quest MX5 09-24-2003 03:37 PM

I just tried the ebay search and came up with 81 items

eman1 09-24-2003 08:54 PM

thats suprising. Last time i checked there were thousands of items.

Tomy/Hobbico's lawyers have been hitting any dealer that sells the BCG's on ebay. They don't want to have any competition between the Microsizers and BCG's in America. They feel they are losing sales on MS's to ebay and the BCG's.

The problem with that is that they are the same bloddy company. If they would release everything worldwide at the same time they wouldn't have to worry about eBay sales.

Plus I believe the lawyers are WRONG about this and are just scaring the sellers. You are allowed to sell BCG's in America they just don't have a warranty.

ib311 09-27-2003 01:32 AM

no warranty and MS is crying to Tomy that their sales suck. but it's not because of ebay it's because you only get 5 feet of range and the fact that there's only 2 frequencies.

mostly because of the lawyers picking on every little company in america. who wants to pay all that money for a car? i know i don't!

Micro S2000 09-27-2003 12:59 PM

i saw at target they have ms pro for 20 bucks i wonder if those will bring sales up?

Bit char-G have died as a whole.. they flourished earlier thsi year and late last yeary.. the entire hobby died as I see when I visit this board for the first time in a while.
Its was a fad.. people are moving on

I for one did a while ago.

They'll probably keep selling them for ages to come. It's just the initial presentation that got everyones attention. Now it will turn into a regular hobby. The same thing happened when remote control planes first came out. Everyone went crazy over them, but after a while it died down a little. Radio control planes are still going strong though, so I suspect this will continue too. I'm sure we'll see more advancements come though. The motors will get better, the steering will probably improve more, etc......
I think more serious mini car racing fanatics will take the lead and start producing high performance stuff. I've already seen new cars coming out with stuff like 24 awg solid copper wires for stock antennas. All somebody really needs to do is watch the mini r/c forums to get ideas and design concepts for the next best thing. If Tomy would take a little time and spend it on the forums then they would already know they need to use lower resistance transisters, put an extra cell inside and extend the range. If they did that, then they would probably dominate the mini r/c hobby, as well as attract attention back.

Who cares, that's not the selling point. MicroSizers are aimed at 6 year olds that are instead playing their GameCubes.

Bit modding is not just a fad, its a great hobby! (not to mention cheap) Its better than most other rc cars, because you dont have to spend hundreds and thousands just to have a fast car and race.

I think you better check again then. My tomy bit char-g box say 8 up and Zip Zap box says 8+, I don't have a microsizer box around to check. Why, are you under 8 years old?

BilboBaggins 10-13-2003 06:48 AM

Microsizer Sport box says 3 and up. I can't see my 4 year old neice playing with it yet.

I'm talking about Micro-Sizers NOT BITS! There is a difference in marketing.

Actually, they flourished over a year ago for those of us who imported them. When I imported my first cars, they had been hot as hell for a while so I got in late.

I dont think they are dead or that anyone should move on. I just think that the over abundance of clones and junky ripoffs have turned alot of new fans away.

I played with some of the clones and was not impressed.

Give me my originals from JP and I am happy.

strider_mt2k 12-31-2003 11:18 AM

I love this hobby!

I can go out with a 20 dollar bill, pick up a couple of tuner sets, and STILL have lunch!
Bit/MS/Clone, it doesn't matter to ME, because they never stay stock for long!

However, after dealing mostly with clones, it IS refreshing to see the nicely chromed wheels and attention to detail that the "real" ones have.

No, I think they'll stay around.
A neat, moddable RC car for around 20 bucks?
What will replace them?
