My modded RX-7
1 Attachment(s)
Shaved and lightened interior of the body (sanded off about 20% thickness), lowered, modded suspension, shaved wheelwells to fit the dropped car, 3.8 motor, stock gearing, lightened wheels to 4-spoke, shaved spoiler, sanded pinion gear to half size and installed in reverse to help keep the gear from slipping out.

So, whatcha think I should do next? What do you think of the car? Dremel ownz j00. :D The front splitter is low enough to scrape ants off the countertop..
I plan on painting the wheels and getting a needle file to sand them down better where I took out the spokes, as well as sanding out even more of the interior of the body... |
shaved spoiler? why didnt u just pop it off?
anyways...its kool the rims look good, i was thinking of doing that..many people have |
When I say 'shaved' I mean removed, popped off, cut, disemboweled, whatever. ;) It's all the same. Shaved means removed; clean cut.
|
with it that low, it doesnt flip/roll does it?
im thinkin of doin weight reduction also....but then transfer the weight to the lower portion of the car, as in..well..i added some body mods to it...so that it wouldnt flip, and it doesnt.. |
nice job! was it hard to cut the spokes off the rims?
|
Well, something I've been seeing and it adds some realism...
Use a dark color (black is good) SUPER fine point permanent marker and outline all the creases. It has to be SUPER SUPER fine though, otherwise the effect doesn't work very well. |
looks sweet... maybe you could turn it into a drop top and loose even more weight? just a thought... anyhow looks great so far.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. :D I'm pretty damn good with a paintbrush (Been building/painting models for 15 years) so I'm gonna go to town with it soon, I think, including what Namuna suggested (Thanks! :)). I haven't finished filling in the holes in the bodywork (where the spoiler was).
It doesn't flip (or has a very hard time doing it. For weight reduction, I literally just sanded down the body from the inside, and shed a good chunk of plastic in the process. Rims were easy to do, you just need a really thin flathead screwdriver and time. Be careful though. :) Rims are going to be hand-painted a matte black w/polished lip. |
Nice job dude. Also I just wanted to be the 1000th post in the gallery.... Tell me what I've won tiny....LOL

how did u lower the rear of the car?
nice bit:D |
Wow NorCalCoug, that looks really really good. Brilliant idea with the spoke removal, I'd like to hear more about how you did that.

No offense but I don't think you did a great job on the rear end of the body. I can see the rear not painted properly. Did you use masking tape? But in the end, you did excellent by showing a very interesting mod with your new and shiny rims. |
great job!!! I noticed u did bit of dremel work on the body so thr rear tires will fit. I to would like to know how to went about lowering the body......it looks SWEET!!!
|
nice job!
did u get all those ideas from thejangs car?
just wondering because he did all of those things too. good job. PS:haha nice avatar tiny |
Thanks for the suggestions. I know about the paint, looks nasty doesn't it!! But it's not my paintwork; that's the OEM paint job on the body. :) I'm going to be stripping it down, sanding lightly, using modeler's masking tape (really really tiny tape) and/or vaseline for parts that are too small to tape off, and airbrushing it. Then I'll hand-detail the rest.
Lowering- Actually, this was easy. I determined how low I wanted the body to be in relation to the ground and I cut new slots with a dremel. I did the front and the rear this way. The front slot doesn't show in the front, the rear does; I'll be filling and/or covering with a license plate where the old slot was. To get the tires to fit, I had to dremel the CRAP out of it. You'll see when you try and fit it in, you'll notice where you have to sand and dremel. I'm not really 100% happy with the rear passenger side wheel well; I could've done a better job and it's a bit too squared off. :( Wheels: Those were the easiest part :) All I did was get a really thin flathead screwdriver and use it to 'cut' the spokes where they meet the rim and where they meet the hub. Just use pressure and push, soon enough you'll hear a 'snap' and it's done. Be VERY careful on the wheel with the gear. I used an exacto blade for that one and did it carefully. The main trick on lowering is to sand/dremel out the inside of the wheelwells until they are paper thin to avoid rubbing. You'll also need to dremel the wheel well towards the rear on some bodies if you fit it the way I did. Hope that helps :) I gotta get me a few more Bit bodies so I can try some new techniques.. |

Anyone got an idea on the body I should mod next? What would look really good lowered? :) I'm planning on painting the rims matte black w/polished lip this weekend; I'll post new pics when that's done. Got a few ideas on the paintjob too :D |
