A couple more tidbits I heard tonight, they are talking digital propo and the price is supposed to be $29.99.
Sounding better all the time. The built in chassis servo is probably spot on. I'd bet on that one. But, wouldn't it be cool if you could swap motors in the front too? You could use different servo torque levels depending on the racing conditions. But, I seriously doubt that one. I haven't heard any rumors about bits going proportional either, but if Zips do, they will have to. That's another thing Zips are doing for the micro market. Keeping the competition on their toes. It makes the products better for all of us. Now, if we could just get congress to remember that, maybe we wouldn't be headed for a country full of monopolies like we now are.

I sent an email to the ZZ site about these cars, I should get a reply soon, this is suspicious!!!

starion_999 07-05-2003 01:53 PM

I have a strong feeling the ZZ 2.0 is going to be a line of "50th Ann. Corvettes" just in ZZ makes and models. The Corvette screamed "Test Marketing " when it came out anyway. Time will tell.

You'll probably get a standardized reply, thanking you for your intrest. If per chance you do recieve some new info, remember to share ;)

What a disappointment!!! They said,

"Hello A.J.

Thank you for your email.

Unfortunately, your rumor sources are incorrect. We are not
offering a ZipZaps with the features that you described."

I KNEW it was too good to be true!!!!!

I expected that, I didn’t think RS would just through away everything they established with their ZipZaps brand. I would like to see them expand their Micro RC line with new products that branch of the ZipZap brand. DigiZaps anyone, or maybe showroom ZipZaps which are more like Hot Wheels in the way they replicate real cars. They should however continue to sell the current design, and continue to improve the PCB.

I don't want to be percieved as perpetrating a rumor or anything, but that email reply you recieved really means very little. It says
" We are not offering a ZipZaps with the features that you described." This does not mean that they won't be in the near future. You gotta learn to read inbetween lines. The zipzaps have plenty of competition so they offcourse would not want to tip off any competetors as to what they will be releasing for one of the bussiest seasons (namely christmas season). We will not find out if this is true until they are released or until christmas has passed and they aren't.
It could also be as simple as the person/persons handeling customer email's aren't that well informed.:p

*edit- Just got back from the other site. Aphreal, who happens to be an asst manager at RS in texas, had this to say about the ZZ 2.0.
"They aren't rumors, they are the real deal.

Zip 2.0 are coming, with a price point of 29.99, just in time for the Christmas season. Along with something else of a larger scale called Xmods or something along that line designed for older teens.

Zip 2.0s will have 6 frequencies."

So I'm sold, between todd and aphreal I'm possitive that we'll be seeing a ZZ 2.0 this winter.

atomikplayboy 07-08-2003 05:19 PM

I have heard nothing of ZZv2.0, save what I have read here in this topic... however I will say two things:

1) This does sound WAY to good to be true... but I would LOVE for it to happen... in other words: I'm not getting my hopes up but it would make my day :p.

2) The email from RS really does mean NOTHING. They would not let the car outta the garage... `er... cat outta the bag... until they are ready to announce them. Specs change and if they are shooting for Christmas a lot can happen to a design in that amount of time. Seeing as they could probably go into production as late as October 1 to be out by the end of November...

Just my 0.02 :)

Meh, I still don't like it, I think it's the wrong way to go with the Zip Zap brand.

** Also I still don't believe the rumor, not until I see a press release or similar official document.**

Which way in your opinion should RS go with the zz line?

Personally I think the cars are just fine the way they are, all they need is some more juice. Increasing the output to the engine and putting in a longer lasting battery would be more worthwhile IMO than steering. Because of the very small size steering isn’t going to improve much no matter what they do, and charging $29.99 for the gimmick of proportional steering is ridiculous. In larger RC cars digital proportional steering is useful but not in hot wheels scale cars.

Cars aside I would rather see a larger selection of body tops, not just the seasonal ones they put out. I would like to see a whole series with cars from Dodge, Ford, Chevy and maybe some more exotic manufactures like BMW, Mercedes and Ferrari. I think concept cars would also be nice to have, especially if the concepts never become actual production cars. Also, wouldn’t it be cool to see body tops of cars from classic television shows like Speed Racer and Knight Rider?

More advanced micro RC’s are just fine, but I think it would be best if they were released as a different line. What if this leads to the discontinuation of exciting motors for ones that will only work on the supposed ZZ2.0’s?

sessiz10 07-08-2003 11:18 PM

I agree on everything but the propo steering. I've raced cars on tracks since about the begining. The problem zips and bits have is that if you start using the larger rpm motors the cars will either flip or take a turn too sharp and send ya into a wall. This is where propo steering will be a god sent. I'm hoping for a throttle too, I'm crossing my fingers. It's also been reported that the 2.0s will be fully modable and cross compatible with the original zips. If I have to pay an extra $10 to get a new zip with a stock spring suspension and any type of propo, I will gladly pay it. Also we can assume that the cars will come with stock dual bats (they had better) if only for the reason that the propo steering will be taking up more juice than the magnet coils.
We'll just have to wait and see.;)
You could also read some of the puchi maru threads to evalute the effects of propo steering on matchbox size cars.

Azimov 07-09-2003 12:36 AM

Yup, I agree. Any kind of propo. is an improvement. The cars are fast enough already really. I race on a track alot too and the new PCBs combined with faster motors makes for cars that don't do well on a track. If you had some throttle control as well as better steering control you could put this new speed and torque to better use.
