Dude, with the voltage he wants to run, you need it. When I ran my xmod at 15 volts RWD, all I'd do is fishtail, and I'd have to let off. Let's face it, most of the time you're not gonna have good conditions, and AWD will own. If you have a really grippy surface, AWD will be owned. But I certainly don't have good grip anywhere with RWD. AWD is just better for the type of racing done. Top speed is better RWD, but for a 1/4 mile, with both cars weighing the same, same hp, same everything except RWD and AWD, AWD will beat it, hands down. It's been tested by car magazines, and it's true.

I didn't see that he was upgrading cells. For things like the atomicmods 8.4v Li-Ion or V1 conversion, yes, you'll pretty much need AWD. You're correct there.
If you'll read my first really long post, it's about getting the most out of an XMODS with only official parts and hop-ups (which is what mine is like right now) and I can tell you that until you do excessive voltage stuff, you're wasting your time with AWD unless you're on a crappy surface. |
make sure you lock up the differential by taking it out and putting clay in between the gears in the differential and then it should have the same amount of power at both of the wheels:cool:

also if you have trouble with going strait(straitest path is shortest) especially if you are using rwd with a high powered motor its best to put hard slicks in the front and soft slicks in the back...once you get a certain speed you can't steer very much so you go straiter...oh and you can also put your steering trim down too
i believe rwd is the best setup too...look at all the top fuel dragsters they all use rwd and they do like 5-6 second 1/4 miles a monoshock helps you get traction in the rear end because it keeps the tires flat on the ground unlike the stock ones I actually use a monoshock that is crazy glued together on very flat surfaces so the rear tires don't even move....this setup allows me to run a 5 cell with a stage 2 motor(sb mags, timing advance weight reduced armature, 11t) and kill like all my friends oh did i mentioned i don't even use a drive shaft....check out this pic of what i use it doesn't even spin just doesn't let the gear dislodge at all...i can't go in reverse though so it ain't for regular racing. oh it doesn't weight anything...ala whittled golf tee...hehe |
