I've been looking at these 3 cars, the DTM SP /X-4, the Micro rs4 and the dynamite rocket racer. We'll im starting from scratch, since im a beginner, so i was looking at the rtr kits, and it seemed as if the Rocket racers and dtm Sp were close in price with the rs4's. The Thing is i noticed the rs4's body shells look alot nicer than the dtm's and rocket racers, however i havent been able to actually find much about them on the internet. Are there better looking bodies for the dtm and rocket racer? The pics of the ones i did saw dont seem to have the same detail as the stock ones for the rs4's. I know that the dtm sp and x-4 dont come with bodies. so are there people out there that sell some nice body kits for the dtm/DRR that arent too expensive.

Also how are they performance wise compared to each other. particualiry the dtm x-4 and the rs4 since they're both 4wd cars. Also comparisons of the others is welcomed as well. I'm looking for something that looks good and can be competitive. I plan on probably only getting a few upgrades, not go full out like some people do. Most likely stay mostly stock.

Thanks in advance

Be sure to read all the forums to get a lot more info. to make a well informed decision. I can tell you that because of the 1:24 scale size of the abc dtm or the rocket racer, there are hundreds of bodies that could fit. Most model body kits are 1:24 or 1:25 size. Check some of the bodies in the gallery.

So the DTM is like 100-115mm. But when i look up 1/24 scale cars like the tamiya ones, it lists it as say 194mm. for that Nissan r390. I saw on the other post. So would the dtm fit on most tamiya scale cars?

NewbieBrigade, keep in mind that the Micro is 1/18 scale, while the others are 1/24; for more Micro info, check out http://yourmicro.com :D I think you must have misread the wheelbase on those models, 194mm would be more like 1/10 scale. You should be able to find plenty of models that will fit the 1/24s, plus ABC make a ton of bodies (search the Forum and you'll find a link to their page listing all of them).

I like the idea that you can use model car bodies for the dtm, only thing is, is the dtm available in canada? Because if not, after shipping and exchange rate, it comes in about 15 dollars canadian less than the rs4 retail. This is for the non rtr kit. And for the Rtr kit for both The Dynamite Rocket Racer, is about 40 dollars canadian less than the rs4. This is concidering i dont get hit with customs fee tho heh. But anyways is the dtm/DRR worth getting over the rs4 concidering they're equal in price?

$74.99 is a really good price. Had I not won that DTM SP lot from eBay, I would definitely buy from you, tinyRC. But, I think I'm all set for now.

I meant replacement parts! They want like $300 for a RTR X4! The big thng is they have most parts for the Tripmates and still get in new and hard-to-find things for the DTMs. ;)

I got one that said you still have it, and I thought I replied, sorry! Well, I am more interested in the DTM's now that I know quite a bit about them, so, I don't really think it's what I'm looking for. Sorry about that. :( I'm really interested in a small 4x4 car, but not the Micros. :)

Wow, I just read up most everything regarding the DTM SP and am "THAT" close to making a purchase... but I need to know where to get the hop ups, motors and body first. I didn't see any links to where to get these in the U.S., TinyRC doesn't have any hop ups in the shop, and even Ebay is lacking... I do not want to get into a hobby that will be dead ended for me. I know that this cannot be the case since you all have hopped up your cars (esp. microrcengineering).

Any help would be appreciated!

Yeah, I saw that website... but there's gotta be an easier way... or maybe I should just wait until these things go more mainstream.

TinyRC... you planning on getting a shop list going?

Hop-Ups for the DTM sp are:

1. Carbon Fiber Chassis kit
2. Bearings (6)
3. Spur Gears: 40, 42, 44, 46, and I believe, there's also a 48. I could be wrong.
4. different compound tires
5. 180 sized motor

ABC, straight out of the box, is pretty much race ready, with the exception of bushings, and motor. These will have to be replaced with ball bearings and a 180 motor.

Parts and Hop-ups are at the moment, available through www.Horizonhobby.com go to "browse brands, then click on ABC Boats) (bodies, motors, bearings, gears, etc)

Thunderer: You can't go wrong with an ABC. These cars are built to last, fast, and runs like a 1/10 pancar. Smooth.

Now that's the answer I'd like to hear! Informative and friendly too. I'll let you know when I've got mine going!!!

I have an X4 and the only hop-up I have for it right now is an Orion Elite stock motor and with the 7.2v battery it's really fast.... not as fast as MicroRCEngineering's car :) but pretty darn fast...and oddly enough it came with a Toyota GT1 body in the box..nicely detailed...no stickers...pleasant surprise

it is odd about that tamiya model kit saying 194mm size. but hes not wrong! the tamiya 1:24 scales static models do say length of 194 strange yes I know because the car isn't 194mm but thats what it says in the box, go figure....

how fast is the 1/24 sp with the 180 motor? would it compete with a micro rs4 with a big block? horizonhobby.com has a lot of hop up parts for the abc dtm.. tiny rc, you should get some so i can take advantage of the 100 free shipping deal. im thinking about getting of these bad boys..

emonator, we're working on getting more parts for the ABCs, the reason why we don't currently stock a lot of parts is that Horizon is also the distributor for these, and they have it rigged so that we have to buy from them, but on such a poor discount that we can't compete with them! So we're looking for a direct Japanese source, and then we'll be able to offer the lowest prices on ABC parts and kits!
