Arg.... I think I destroyed my bit...

Hey all,

I think I destroyed my bit.... I picked up the wrong soldering iron when adding a new antenna wire to the bit and fried the corner of my board.... the bit still runs... but the range is a whopping 2 feet.....

Does anyone know if there is an alternative place on the board to solder an antenna cable? I'm assuming no... and I can't see any of the inner circuitry on the board from where the antenna used to go... so am I f'd ....

After an hour or so of soldering an antenna to any open connection I finally found an acceptable spot on the board and it actually INCREASED my range.... so... I've now got a bit with one corner of the board that is burned.... the antenna soldered to something else one the board... and I've got about 18 feet of range .....

WOO HOO!

I'll snap one tonight and post it.... I'll also snap one of the whole board so you can see what I did to the corner with the wrong soldering gun...

For those of you using too much power this pic will show you why to use the right power....

Alright... I learned two things...

1. There is an alternative spot to locate the antenna... I'm thinking about trying to run dual antennas on one of my bits to see how the range goes... one in the original location and one in my new location :-)

2. My digital cam takes crappy close up pics..

hmm one of my bits had it's pots fall out from too much adjusting, i soldered that *ucker back on, but have never gotten the range that it once had, I wonder if this would help. What do you guys think?

I had a similar problem with my pot coming loose. Soldering the posts was inadequate. I had to trace the TINY LITTLE copper wires that connect to the posts. One was broken. I had to tin the tiny copper wire, then solder THAT to the post where is used to be connected. That fixed it, but it did detune the receiver so I had to adjust the pot again.

I adjusted my POTS ALL MESSED UP!!!!! I read in a nother post that u adjust it from the wax side Caver01, do u just turn over the pcb board and take out the wax??? I need to really adjust this thing.........i'm only getting a couple inches of range!!!!!

You can adjust the POT from both sides in the almost all BCG. Some OEM have to be adjusted from the buttom. I removed the wax (some BCG have some kind of glue in the POT) so that the POT can rotate freely. Be careful not to use to much pressure when adjusting it.
