Does anyone know where to get some metal pinion gears for my DRR? Preferably 13-14 tooth. Seems like Horizon Hobby is selling out their stock fast, I can't seem to find them there anymore. Also, this may be a silly question, but, can you get metal spur gears as well?

DONT get metal pinions. they are terrible, unless ou never plan on changing the gear ratio on your drr. once they are on its a pain in the butt to get off, unless you have a pinion puller. plus they weigh more:D get some mini 4wd pinions, ive never had one fly off and they clean up like new with rc car motor spray. they come in packs of 5 for 2.50 at ultimate hobbies in orange. they come in sizes ranging from 8-18 t

My plastic stock pinion keeps flying off now that I added 7.2v on a Micro RS4 Motor... it's extremely annoying. Regarding the teeth on the pinions, which ones are suited for which purpose (top speed, acceleration, etc)?

Thanks,

Ryan

I was also wondering if the Micro RS4, Mini Z, or any other brand of pinions will work with the DRR stock spur?

get okami or Jtech plastic pinions from ultimate hobbies. they go on really good and tight. i run the coreless micro motor and it has never come off. they work great. as for pinion sizes, bigger pinion = more top speed, less acceleration, smaller pinion= more accelleration, lower top speed. for my car i ran the biggest pinion i could find. even with the stock motor i ran a 17tooth because these already have so much acceleration and breaking tires loose alot will harm your stock esc. you will proboly need a heat sink if you go to the 17- 18 tooth pinions. thats another bad thing about the metal pinions, they come in such small sizes.

Heya Misterbungle,

Try going through the main page www.precisionmodelproducts.com or here's a direct link to the 1/24th scale upgrades http://gallery.bcentral.com/Gallery/ProductListing.aspx?GID=4864459&Dept=220806 watch out on the shipping though. I was going to order the 4 piece Foam Tires with Wheels that are $9, the shipping was $10! I'd probably only order from them if I was buying a lot from them.

DTM racer, how fast is that coreless motor? I would think that it would be almost too fast to handle, with those higher RPM's and all. I have a micro modified, and 7.2v and that is already fast enough. on the pinion subject, I use the stock pinion from the mini stock on the mrs4 micro mod motor, it never comes off, and it is a very very tight fit, I had to make a hole a bit wider with my xacto knife. how much speed would you guys say a 13 or 14 tooth pinion would add, compared to a stock 10 tooth one?

Assuming that your motor reaches 30,000 rpm and your using a 42T spur, you should expect about a 7-10 mph increase with the 13T or 14T pinion.

yeah the coreless is fast, you need a good pair of abc foams on the back in order to get traction. if you find that when you are coming out of a corner and your car spins out, thats because you dont have enough traction. you can solve this three ways. gear ratio, tires, suspension. get some good foams, or gear up until you dont spin out, or soften the rear suspension. i have to run the biggest pinion on the coreless cause otherwise it just peels out, out of corner.

WOW!!!! a 7-10mph increase, thats a lot. I'll look into those pinions. I bet acceleration it a bit less skimpy though.
