I was in Japan over the holidays and picked this up
just because I thought it looked cool. I didnt realize
how hot and addicting these things are!

In anycase, I was wondering if anyone knew something
about the schematic of the tank, or at least the IR
communications specs. Is the communication protocol
the same as in the digiQ cars? www.irbot.com has
some info on the cars (38khz modulated IR, simple
serial protocol), I am hoping its the same for the tanks.

In anycase, I guess I'll open up my tiger and figure it
out if no one else has. (I just ordered two more from
cosmogames, so if I screw up I'm still covered :)

That is alought of money to watse on just looking at what infared signal it is. on some prevous thread some one was going to use a IR reading remote. So I wouldn't try to do anything serious to your tiger. But with you getting more tanks you can have friends play a battle with you.:bts: :bth: :bss: b35m bg657 bbimpb

Im not sure what you mean by "waste." I didnt buy more
tanks just to see what IR protocol they use, I bought them
because I got hooked on playing with them. (I now have
a tiger, a panther, and a t34, and like the tiger the most).

In anycase, the main goal is to add some smarts to these
tanks by putting a microcontroller on them and see if I
can have it do robot like stuff, like navigate etc. The easiest
way to do this is to have it emulate the IR signals being sent
from the controller.

That IMHO is not a waste :)

BTW. I realized that the protocol will probably be a bit different
from the digi-q racer cars, as it will have to encode the
firing button at least. oh well, time to dig out an ir sensor
and a scope.

Did you ever figure these things out? This is something I am also interested in doing.
