ok, so i got a drr,
not too happy about the huge receiver...
soooo....took it apart.
esc is a decent size, but the receiver stands to be replaced
with a nice shredder or the like ;)
basically, you see the standard three wire output of the
esc...
those three wires are your standard three wire output for
standard esc's....
so you can just desolder them and solder on a standard
esc plug.
as for the extra line going into the esc that connects
to the section of the receiver marked "batt"
that line basically closes the circuit for the esc.
that line is the line you use to attach an on/off switch.
when you close the circuit between where that wire
attaches to the esc and the middle wire
of the esc output (i forget what color but basically they are at the same location on the esc, just on different sides of the board)
you turn on the esc.
well...
just an fyi...
pics to come soon, if i ever get to it ;)
basically trying to use the esc in my kawada for now....

The middle wire on the ESC output...you mean the red wire in the 3-wires that connect to the receiver? Don't suppose you could clarify this a little for me?

Never mind. It is, indeed, the red wire on the receiver harness. The black wire from the switch goes to one side of the ESC board, and the receiver harness is on the opposite side. Solder the red wire from the switch to the middle contact, where the red wire from the receiver harness goes.

Works pretty well.

Ok, so I fried my DRR ESC and have a team Orion Flash on order. I'm looking at the three wires from the DRR ESC to the Receiver which on my car are orange, red, and brown/black. For the connection to the new ESC which one is +, - and signal? Also for a RC elecctronics Newbie, the standard ESC connection is the same as a servo connector? (JR/Hitec)

Thanks

If you look at the servo cable, the wires should match up on the PCB.

Brown = Black = Negative
Red = Red = Positive
Orange = White = Signal

Refer to http://www.uoguelph.ca/~antoon/hobby/leads.htm for more info.

Thanks I also found this similar page (http://rcvehicles.about.com/library/rc101/blrc101_swiringc.htm) describing the wiring layout. I will wire it up tomorrow so wish me luck.
