I just ordered the Mach 5 spec 1 for 27 bucks. Couldnt pass it up.

I would like to know if anyone has experience doing a 4 cell mod on a spec1. Is it possible? I have had a lot of experience building 1/10 scale cars as well as working with electronic components. (soldering skills are excellent).

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

HEHE

I got a Spec1 GT-R racer for Xmas and still had to get the $27 speed racer one!

Ok I have heard that when doing a 4cell mod on the Spec1 the PCB (which has ESC/RX) can get really hot. However, on the www.apexrc.com, site you can buy PCB's for the Spec2! So then you would effectively turn a Spec1 into a fixed wheelbase Spec2! The cost is $8.95 plus shipping, i think it may be worthwhile!

Also Tinyrc.com's part shop is working on getting the chassis/body only kits for the epoch's, since you already have a controller, xtal, and charger, you can upgrade to a spec2 chassis, which has many more mods and better looking bodies (i.e. no stupidly huge wheel wells).

Good luck! And welcome to the world of Epoch. They are far superior to bits!

I found the site... I noticed that they have a complete chassis for 11 bucks! Would it be possible to up grade the spec 1 to a spec 2 by replacing the chassis and circuit board?

The chassis is missing quite a bit. And the Epoch's are fun to take apart, however putting them back together is SCARY.

You could in theory change the chassis, however you will need more screws, the new PCB, all the steering stuff (should be same as spec1). Sounds like too much work, i do plan to change my PCB on my current Spec1, however thats all the mods i will do to it. When tinyrc gets the chassis/body sets in then i will have a total Spec2 kit and do the battery mods on it.
