This problem is annoying. When i put new wheels on my car. i lost my ability to go straight. before the new wheels when i turned. then stopped turning it would go back to straight. now it just stays nwhere it is. if i'm going right it stays going right.
ok heres the deal...
a) you either lost your steering spring while assebling it back together
b) you assembled it incorrectly
open your steering cover back up...and chek to see if the metal spring is still there....
it is is, then your problem is B
when u dissasemble the steering, the magnet gets loose, as does the steering spring....
the bottom of the magnet has 3 pegs ...when placing them back into your car they must be vertially aligned.....
the top peg should be IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STEERING SPRING
the middle peg should go in the large hole at the end of the steering spring loop
and the last hole should go in the steering arm...uh white part thingy im not sure what its called
anyways, try that, if not then u have to realign your magnet

i had this same issue after i modded my car, i had to pull the front end off again. when you take the front cover off and look at the underside you'll see the imprint of the magnet, "the little circle guide for the magnet to rest in", any way what i did was take a drill to it and widen it out, the when i reassembled it made sure my wires that go to the magnet where no being snagged under the circuit board, they need some slack. after that i moved the wheels back and forth by hand to make sure it didn't get caught up on anything.
this seem to work my steering no longer gets stuck..

still not working
doooode
chek to make SUUUURE that you have the peg in between the spring...dont put i on top, or make it cross over....
u also have to realign your magnet every time u take it apart..
to do this,
after you place your spring and magnet peg thingy correctly, you have to turn your magnet in place until u see it slightly move the spring to one side, when it snaps back press your controller to see if it is turning in the right direction......if not, keep turning your magnet in the same direction untill it snaps back again..it should work.

MTL said:"when u dissasemble the steering, the magnet gets loose,

MTL the part you describe as the magnet is not the magnet it is the steering motor/ Rotor that turns the car.The Magnet is the Ring. What might be the problem is you need to make sure the slot on the bottom of the ring magnet is sitting on top of the White steering adjustment peg. Then you will have the correct poliarty so the steering rotor will steer the car.MTL did describe the correct assembly of the steering. He is just little mixed up on what each part is called.Check out Tinracers.com (http://www.tinracers.com) in the dowload section and download the comprehensive manual and it will show you the correct way to work on your car with lots of photos.

I sure fix for the steering problem. It seem the steering rotor/motor is so powerful that it turn the ring magnet 1 to 2 mm each turn so it get out place fast.then you don't have the have correct polarity so what I did is put a dab of CA glue aka:super glue on the front of the round magnet on each side of the chassis. So now the magnet does not turn and i have great steering. One thing I have noticed that you get a power loss when making a series of tight turns.I am thinking of finding a AAA battery case that hold 3 batterys that would fit in the exsisting battery cavity. Then you could get 3.6 volts with nicad or nimh batterys or 4.5 volts with alkalines. But first I am going to pick up some Monster Batterys at circuit city their AA alkaline battery has 2880 mah.The Extra life cooper tops are only 1500 mah

where exactly did u put the dabs of super glue
thanks

I put the drips of super glue were the red arrows are pointing at to lock the ring magnet in place.Be sure you have the slot on the bottom of the ring magnet in place over the centering adjustment peg.My adjustment peg broke one of the tabs that holds the peg in place so I had to glue that in place also. The blue arrow is pointing to the wires so make sure they are together in the slot on top of the rotor. Then you will get great steering out of the car. They sure use brittle cheap plastic on the after market product. But hell there fun to cheap fun to play with:D
