View Full Version : just got me a Initial D FD3s Taiyo rc!! :D
it was a Xmas gift from my cuzin :D
now from what i understand these are exactly the same as the Auldeys...maan the bodies RULE!! so detailed for something this size...how often do u see rc cars with windshield wipers!! har har
now ima have to jump on my cuzin tomorrow
first noticeable difference, is that it has WORKING HEADLIGHTS!!
and this thing has no noticable anteanna sticking out of it...strange....ima have to open this sucker up
the controller anteanna is different from the stock auldey anteannas, this one is shorter extension
and guess what?? the tires have treads!! unlike audleys
the front and rear tire widths are the same
it came with a 6inch Initial D sticker...err decal or somthing...
well thats all for now, ima have to test this baby out
hmmm headlights cant go down ;/ very strange for daytime driving...
-its hard to tell how good the projection range is on the headlights...if i hold it in my hand and face it toward a wall 5ft away, i could still see light reflectiing off of it...
when its on the ground, the light range isnt far, lights only go about 2feet
-the car is super low while stock, maybe my auldey 206 was meant to be high, because its a rally car
-the motor is super "whiney", which was the same thing with my stock auldey, untill i replaced it with a faster fan motor and higher gear ratio
-the paint job on the FD is SUPER GLOSSY!!, i could never get my models to look like this, ima keep this car an indoor car, no curbside jumping for this one :D
OMFG!!! I THINK ITS OFFICIAL, I THINK TAYIO RADICANS ARE BETTER THAN AULDEYS!!!
WHY???
they have real liscensed cars, meaning the cars they have have the actual logos like thier real life counter part...
for example the skyline actually says CALSONIC, not SONICANE or whtever, the smaller decals are real brand names too
*edit arg, no outside linking allowed ;/
well anyways, i belive the Radicans are of higher quality, because they cost $26-28 at HLJ, and i bought my Auldey for $15 on ebay, and thats the standard price
chek the rest out here
http://www.hlj.com/cgi-local/hljlist.cgi?Series=Radi-Can&Dis=2
some of the cars the Radicans have to get your mouth watering are:
Night Rider with WORKING LED THINGY!!!
Skyline GT-R KPGC10
old skool Fairlady Z432R
Lancia Stratos
R32 Skyline GT-R
Beetle RSi
umm a long bus *shrug
and of course the limited Initial D rx7's, and the AE86
there are upgrades for LEDS, motors, rims, tires etc
ummm btw, i think this forum section should be called "Auldeys, Tayio, other 1/32"
well heres my car, tsk tsk HLJ messed up the FD and the FC har har oh wells, they got it backwards
oh, and another Initial D car they have is the black Impreza *drools **

can you still use these radi cans and put i the auldey mod kit and motor.
thanks
Henry there is no Auldey Rx7, and i belive the only rx7 Radican is the Intial D ones...
freak in fact, everything is swapable except for the motor case and steering arms
the motor case is a different shape, but u can take the motor and axle out of it and put it into an Auldey case
the steering arm is strange, youd have to widen the Auldey steering cover for them to fit, but im not going to go through the trouble to do that.
Also, the RadiCan is FASTER than my Auldey with faster motor and higher gearing ratio, in a 20ft drag on wood floor the radican won by 3 feet :D, if i were using my a pure stock auldey the radican would have won probably by 5 feet
the reason why it might be faster is maybe the pinion gear, its made out of...umm copper im guessing, not plastic...and the axle wasnt even greased up, just the pinion gears were.....just wait till i grease this sucker down :D
oks a few thing to note about the chasiss once i figured out how to take the body off
there are a total of FIVE body posts, this confused me alot, the last one is HIDDEN in the battery case..sneaky sneaky
also when i took the body off, lo and behold, THERE WAS NO PCB!!!!! well not really, because there was a slim black cover skrewed over it. :D
the pcb is alot smaller than the Auldeys, and there arent any huge capacitors, and such sticking out of it. Taiyo was printed neatly in white, and all was nicely snug and fit under this low cover.....amazing
and something to note, on the sides of the chassis, there is a slot on each side the size of a USB port....wonder what this is, well im going to try to use these slots to somehow make a add on sideskirt system to where i can remove it when i want.
also now, i sorta care less about my Rx7 body now because my sisters dog bit the roof of it while my cuzin was driving ;/...the same cuzin that gave it to me:p ..there are marks on the windshield and the side doors ;/....oh wells...now this is my bang around car...
so far, i swapped the rear axles with my Auldey just for the slicks :D and i added a large red LED to the rear...but its brighter than the headlights har har,,...im gonna remove it later, because its a waste of battery
at the moment, im trying to figure out how im going to do a plug and play system with the lights...because i dont want the flip up lights...i want the A spec style lights... pictured below

any link of where they sell it? how much is it? i want a rx-7! taht dont cost as much as a mini z.
http://www.nipponhobbies.com/radio/taiyo.htm
but HOLY CRAP they cost $40-59....if u are willing to spend that much, get a Kyosho Palm Runner...only an inch bigger, and u can swap mini z bodies with it...mini z makes a FC3s, FD3s Aspec, and the Intial D FD3s
could also order from HobbyLinkJapan in the link i gave earlier...its half the price and the most car variety ive found so far, but be prepared to wait an extra week....
on second thought, you can randomly find them on ebay for alot cheaper.
---------
lets see ....
last night i removed the headlights along with the led wires that go to the motor...
i figured out that I CAN make the non flipup lights by placing two leds in a group, and another 2 on the other side...maan this is gonna rock...im planning on using hyper bright white lights, or those [ahem expensive] blue one
also after removing the lights, your power is slightly increased from the voltage that was taken used up by the leds...so its a small increase, but its all about speed :D

Now you've got my attention, that's Bunta's Imprezza I believe (makes an appearance later in the series). So Taiyo's got it huh... a little off subject (kinda anyway), but I heard that Kyosho is supposed to be coming out with a mini-z in that flavor too. Yippee!
B
so.. does this mean that you can use the relay mod and the auldey's upgrade motors on the taiyo can?
kwikb...OMG are u saying that bunta drives my favorite car??!!!! holy crap
do u know what year or what version/model??
maan cant wait till the next season :D
m1a1...well im not tottally sure, the pcb looks different......and its smaller..
ive never done the relay mods [yet]...i sorta just go with what i have in hand...right now, my RX7 is BLAZINGLY FAST, my semi stock Auldey cant even compare..yep, the motors fit in the Taiyo
the sort of bad thing, is that the car doesnt go slower when u turn [the 1:16 racewins do]....so that means your turn radius is huge..
its about 3ft at full speed, and to make a smaller radius, you have to what i call "TapNTurn" meaning:
approach a turn at full speed, let go of the gas while pressing the direction u want to go, and then tap the gas until your car is in the desired direction. Some times your car will want to oversteer, making your turn tighter but u might have to countersteer if u hold the turn too long :D
also today, i replaced the red LED on the controller, i personally find red LEDs annoying...why would u want red when u step on the gas....?
so anyways, i swapped it with a solid green one...alot less brigher, but makes more sense. green means go, unless u live in Texas where people always run red lights... :D
also for useless fun, im planning/pondering on how i would make the sound of a blow off valve when i let go of the gas....although its only a one speed, when u tap the gas and let go, id want it to go "pssh" or something...im not even sure if there even is a device that makes a sound like that....if anyone knows or has any idea, tell me
henry doode i almost forgot about the intial d models...
Aoshima/Double U makes the motorized 1/32 scale Initial D models...i forgot i had the Trueno one, har har...the body fits, BUT it wont turn cuz my rims are too big...youll have to do some sanding to make bigger wheel wells
but either way, this is the cheaper [and also lighter] alternative, as those models only cost $9-15...i bought mine for 10 bucks..and it comes with a spare motor thats works on the car, and stickers!! :D
heres 2 rx7's

Yeah me too, I'm getting anxious for the next stage! Re: Imprezza, not quite sure what year... but the model is "Sti IV" :D
actually the window is a whole separate piece...you just have to skrew it on under the roof...
its tinted black, not solid, so it looks a little more realistic....in fact, why even use the window? har har...youll make your body 25% lighter
yeah the body fits, its just that u either have to make a wire antenna instead of a hard one, or make a hole in the rear window...

you can get a palm runner from Toy East (http://www.toyeast.com/subcatlist2.asp?catid=559) (Tokoros Power Runner) for like $15 I got one and its much faster than the Auldey stock, plus it has suspension front and back and uses the same body as the Mini-z. My friend has a Kyosho Palm and they are the exact same as the Power runner. But there is only one upgrade motor for the palm runner, and I have seen someone selling a palm on ebay that had a turbo chip in it. I have the AE86 Pioneer Auldey and with both cars stock its no compatition. And both cars are the exact same size but the palm is a slight bit wider. I have a 56Kmh motor in my Auldey now and I tried it in the palm first it took off slow but got up to speed and was easier to handle but I took it out because I didn't want to fry the car. I only wonder if the relay kits for the Auldey can work for the palm, I dont see why it wouldn't.

hmm oks, whenver i remember to buy a one battery holder..im going to sacrifice my rear bumper so that the battery and holder can fit inside without looking awkward....:D
i have a 2 battery holder...but umm....its just too big...
