I'm getting ready to work on this. Before re-creating the wheel(punk intended), I figure I should check to see if anyone has done this. Or if you want to brainstorm with me, feel free to send me an email.

Will do. I ordered my first bit char-g in hopes of being able to do this(now thinking I need another so I can play with it while bashing the other kit). But already thinking about how to drive the front wheels while still being able to turn is the biggest consideration... Step one is a working lifted suspension, then we get into powering the front wheels. I should receive my car this week and will be posting thoughts about it afterwards.

if you make a 4WD Bit, i dont think that it would be possible to make it turn, if you somehow make it turn while its 4WD, then i think that it will be a lot larger than a nornal bit...

Actually just use two 2.6 motors or higher, and place one motor laying opposite of the other. to turn left, run only the motor with the pinion gear on the right side, to turn right, run only the motor with the pinion gear on the left. Same concept as the Digi-Q. The high RPM should be enough to turn the vehicle. Hard wheels will probably give the best results.

Or, if you want to go really hardcore, preserve the normal steering method - you would need to come up with something like a front universal in order to be able to both steer and put power to the wheel, but I'm thinking some kind of flexible thin wire might be able to work?

The universal joint is plausible. It is also the most realistic if you choose to keep the original steering.
Replace the front axle pins with flexible teflon or similar type plastic wire. The wires will run thru the steering knuckle (where the axle pins were) and the tires will mount on the ends. the other end of the wires will be attached to motors. The beauty of this concept is that the other motors can be located anywhere. Say you were to make it a semi, then it could be housed in the trailer.
This concept works because my son has a plane that works on the same concept. The propeller at the nose is attached to a wire that runs thru the fuselage and down one wing, then thru a housing to a flashlight type lightsaber looking case with a mabuchi 540 motor motor in it. The cable is directly attached to the motors shaft. The plane spins around in circles over my sons head when he turns it on.

2 27Mhz units sounds like the way to go. You'll have to seriously beef up the coils in order for the steering you describe to work though. Sounds like it will be very cool, can't wait to see it!
