I own an SP and use the following electronics which fit well in the low body clearance and perform flawlessly:

Orion Flashpoint ESC
Airtronics Micro 3 Channel FM RCVR
Hitec HS-55 steering servo
Airtronics M8 Radio

Had to buy the ESC and the servo, but transferred the balance from my 1/10 road car.

The Flashpoint ESC gives great proportional throttle control with soft braking and reverse for the "oops" factor. The Flashpoint is also very thin and can be servo taped to the servo, perfect for the low body clearance and limited space under the PC shells.

DAMZer, is that a one or two tier setup?

DAMZer

I guess you would call it a single tier.

The flashpoint is on top of the servo, capacitor to the driver's side.
The receiver is as far back against the body mount posts as possible on top of the battery case.

So what batteries are you using in that compartment, the ABC pack?

DAMZer

You got it, bought 2 packs but have yet to thoroughly kill one:cool:

wooohhhhh coons! looks like you do have some micro electronics there. thats and $80 esc!

DAMZer

Don't know about 80, got it for about half that by supporting my LHS.

an alternative would be the ES-01. It's $25.00 regularly. works up to a 180 motor, with 6 cells. That's a good set-up.

Hardtrukr

the ES-01 is a pretty small little thing for an ESC.

A Novak XXL Reciever is about 1/2 the size of that Airtronics monster... you should look into it to go along with that Orion Esc

It's about the size of the Mini servo that comes with the X4's CRP

My SP

Futaba MC230CR Esc
Novak XXL Rx
C-Can Slot car motor
6-cell pak
Bearings

My X4

ABC CRP
Orion Elite Stock (180 sized motor)
ABC 7.2v 110Mah Nicad

Yep, I run the XXL in my XXX. Can I buy a vowel?

Good example of using what was laying around in the toolbox.
Now I don't have a backup for XXL.

Does the capacitor come attached to the ESC or did you attach it? If you did attach it, how do you know when to do something like that?

The capacitor was installed by Star Fleet Engineering in the space dock. Except for the initial definition of the warp drive parameters, I did not have to do any further tweaking to the warp drive specifications.

Translation, it came factory installed. Initial set-up was performed following the mfg's specifications. Easy, no hassles.

MicroRCEngineering,

I blew out forward :D in a ES-01. I tried it in my DTM-SP with a GPM 180 High Speed motor!

So, what was that about it being able to handle 180 size motors?

wow! i was almost about to get the es-01, but got the ipd race-20 on the way.

there are a lot of factors here. First, there are several 180 versions. I was referring to the HPI stock, and ABC Stock. These are basically stock 180 sized motors. Your 180 GPM HS maybe a hotter motor, which pushed the es01 beyond the limits. The only way to avoid this is to get an esc with NOMOTORLIMIT. hehe.

I'd like to get an ABC DTM SP too in the near future, so I've been researching into which small esc, servo, motor to buy. To get ready for it, I've just ordered the following:

RX: Hitec HFS-03MM
Servo: GWS Naro HP Plus BB
ESC: IPD Race-20

Motor:
From this thread, it sounds like the GPM 180 may be the fastest 180-class motor that can fit the DTM SP w/o any motor plate mod. Is this true? Anyone knows any other high-performance 180-class motor?

By the way, I still cannot find any web site or LHS that sells replacement parts, let alone hop-ups, for the ABC DTM SP!? This annoys & worries me a lot cause I like this car.

If I cannot find satisfying support for this car, then I won't want to invest into it. I may just look into the Dynamite 1/24 w/ a sturdy fiber-glass double-deck chassis.

One thing I don't understand is why TRC only carries the car itself (plus only 2 recently added bodies - out of the many dozens shown at the ABC web site). Wouldn't customers buying the DTM SP from this site want to buy replacement parts from you too? I don't quite get it. Does anyone know when the situation will be improved? A date will help me a lot on my planning and the final selection on my next purchase.

You can order every single part for the DTM SP and X4 directly from http://www.horizonhobby.com

WHY, man WHY didn't you order the Novak ESC????   Cancel it quick and order a Novak SPY. I bought mine for 65 bucks, you can set it up for reverse OR brakes!:p I am sure it's smaller too!!

Sorry I am not farmiliar with the sevo you bought is it a mini or a micro?

DAMZer

Gertman is right. The Spy is an awesome little speed control that will handle up to 380 size motor. More than enough for the DTM or the ABC.

Once you use one of these, you'll be spoiled for life.

Clique, this is a great question; first of all let me point out than we can get just about anything even if you don't see it in the Shop, which includes all ABC parts, any electronics, etc. A lot of the time the turnaround on this is as fast as a few days. We're currently working on expanding our lineup to all of the ABC parts, bodies, electronics etc. You can expect more and more products over the next few weeks. And don't let the apparent lack of parts delay your purchase of the SP, because as mentioned earlier, we can get any part you need, even if you don't see it in the Shop. :)

Info on the GWS servo can be found here:

http://www.aeromicro.com/Catalog/gws_naro_hp_bb_servo__futaba__804556.htm

I was interested in the Hitec HS 60 Super Micro, but the GWS seems to be cheaper, smaller, higher in torque output, and has a ball bearing. Please take a look the link provided above and see for yourself, may be you'd like it too.

Regarding my ESC choice...I think the Race-20 is smaller and lighter than the SPY, but I could be wrong though. And there is a chance that I will get a RS4 Micro and run it with more cells and a more demanding motor than the SPY can handle. So it seems like the Race-20 can do better (and is cheaper too) than the SPY except for the missing reverse function, which I'm used to not having anyway. And I did look into the SPY and actually liked the overall design and quality a lot, so I may as well get one to replace the Race-20 on the ABC SP after the Race-20 into my future RS4 Micro.

Anyway, thanks for the recommendation.

TRC, thanks for your kind support to the products you sell here. I just ordered from you the RTR Mini-X last week, and I'll be looking forward to ordering the ABC SP in a few weeks.

My question now is: if all ABC SP/X4 parts can be made available for me to purchase thru this site, how do I know what prices you're selling the parts at if they are not listed here? Also, if you don't list them (stock and hop-ups) out in your site, then people will have to check out the Hobbico site and, for the convenience, may just order from there. Wouldn't it generate more revenues to your Shop and give your frequent forum visitors some convenience if you provide info on all parts that we can buy thru you? I'm just thinking that more business to you would permit you to keep this site on-going and make it even better and more complete. Anyway, please don't mind my suggestions that can take you much time to implement. I guess you may be just like us who work a full-time job else where, right?

check out the Hobbico site What are you talking about? Hobbico does NOT sell parts for ABC cars!!!! It's Horizon:rolleyes:

How many cells are we talking about? 10, 12? Otherwise you should be fine.

the race-20 can handle 480 motors and 10 cells if im not mistaken. i have one, though its sad it has no on/off switch. also clique, maybe you should consider the hitec hs-81(mg). they are $18-22 at www.servocity.com and also FREE shipping

tinyrc

Clique, thanks for the input. There are two reasons for not listing the parts: 1) since they aren't actually in stock, they delay orders by a few days, and we wouldn't want people to not realize this when ordering from the site and then be disappointed, hence the email. 2) we can do price matching/beating on special orders via email to make sure you get the best deal, better than HH etc. We can't post lower prices on the site for legal reasons.

was ist los,

Thanks for that link!!!!:D

I have reasearched servos extensivly for my x4 (my sp already came with an Airtronics 95z something and it works fine) and I guess I thought that the HS-81mg was either too heavy or too big.

After beaking my far share of HS50 gears (it was the perfect size to have everything on the chassis) I went with the HS-60. I had to move the receiver BUT it fit. The gears do break but not nearly as often. When I went to that link, I figured I'll buy a HS-81MG and after I run out of replacement gears I'll put it in!!!!

I can't believe it's soo cheap and NO shipping!!!! The Futaba metal gear they sell is 60 bucks!! I wonder why it's sooo much more?

What servo do you use in your X4?

well i thought you were running the sp that is why i told you about the hs-81! but my servo is lost in the mail somewhere so eh...

does anyone know how to keep my motors in my sp cool during a race?

gertman
09-14-2002, 01:44 AM
i thought you were running the sp

I do run an SP AND the X4.:)

As far as keeping your motor cool, I think you shouyld tell me more first:

How HOT is it getting?
What motor are you running?
How many cells?
Any air holes in your body?
Is the hole in the underside of the chassis fully opened?
Is there a sticker on the can of the motor that may be covering some holes in the can?
Are you over OR under geared?
Are you running on a high friction surface (carpet)?
Are you stalling the motor alot (giving it gas when the car is stuck)
How long are you running it before it gets hot? Are you running two or more battery backs through it in succession?

was ist los?
09-18-2002, 07:17 PM
i am running both 130 and 180 motors with stock gearing on pretty high bite cement. the motor gets almost as hot as a reedy mvp, if you are familiar with that motor. (1/10). not running the body and stock stickers. fully open motor hole on bottom of chassis. oh and only running one pack. then wait about an hour.

gertman

what is the ambient temperture outside?

What kind of batteries? For how long is the run time?

Is the 130 motor getting as hot as the 180?

And, yes I am familiar with the MPV ;)
