I bought my Desert Truck used on eBay for $40 just to get an R/C fix every now and then. The OEM 150mAH battery was worn down and only lasted a few minutes on a full charge.

So I built this custom long life battery pack using standard size AAA batteries. They're 1.2v Sanyo Eneloop AAA's rated at 800 mAH (5.33 times the capacity of the stock pack).

I've got pictures of the process and a video clip here -

It does cause the truck to flip because of the high center of gravity, and I can't put the body on, but it's a lot of fun to run for almost 30 minutes.

I had thought about buying another stock 150mAH pack with a wall charger for $30 or a LiPo with charger for $40. But this solution only cost $20 total and the 4 pack of AAA's ($11) can be used for other purposes when not in the car.
