Okay guys, we're going to try our first official race day!

When: Saturday (July 25th)
Doors open 30 min early (9:30am)
Race Start: 10:30am (Tenatively - if that is too early, let me know. Personally I would like to start later, maybe noon? Speak up on when you would like to race)

We sold another car (Porsche 962) and that guy is going to be there. If jdob makes it down and if Pedro gets a car, that makes at least 3. To get you guys in here, we are not going to charge anything for entry fee or practice laps. Brent also has a few ideas cooking for store discounts, coupons, etc... for participating racers.

Our store Subaru will be available to race with as well.

I will be there, I am flexible since I am pretty close, just have to sneak out of the house.
Hope your car shipment comes in...

I am going to try and make it! I have something kind of up in the air right now for Saturday, but I think it will all work out for the best and I will be able to race my dNaNo - Finally!!! WooHoo!!!

The race time seems OK to me - since it's indoors we don't have to worry about getting rained out - and getting done earlier means there will still be time left in the day for other things...Cool...

Great! We sold two more cars today so if everyone shows, there should be a pretty good size group. Dare I say enough for 2-sets of qualifiers and a B main? Haha

pedrocamp
07-24-2009, 06:54 AM
mx5, Which cars did you sell? Have you set up the race management software? Will there be a little table space somewhere? I can bring a small card table to share if needed.

Great you can come down Jdob! An earlier start is best for me too, if everyone else is there. Look forward to tomorrow!

Sold the Mclaren (which ran a legit 4.49 yesterday, stock other than bearings) and I THINK the Ferrari 360, but can't remember.

I'm busy this weekend [getting the garage floor sealed], but I'm down for the next event. Can't wait!

Ready to do a little racing today? I will make sure to get some photos up. Went by last night and did some first laps with the Enzo, felt good. I ran the ball diff straight away and it felt balanced. I managed a 4.58 on the 3P. Joe E was there running his 962 and McLaren. He did a 4.49 with the Mc the previous night! Have to fit the bearings and clean up the lines a bit to run with Joe. Should be a fun day with Jdob in the mix...

Thanks to the HT Mooresville guys for a good time. We just finished racing, Joe, Justin, Mark and myself had some good racing. I think we were all dipping into the mid to low 4s and had some good dicing. I am very inpressed with these little cars... alot like racing the larger Zs. I am sure that the store guys will post results and pictures. I have some too I will post later.

Had fun running around today! Nice to meet everyone - and see some faces I hadn't seen in awhile! I will have to practice my car control a little bit and try to keep off of the wall and other competitors cars...Ha, ha, ha...Hope I wasn't to awful crashing into anything and everything - my poor light buckets didn't fair to well...

Hope to be able to make it out again for the next meeting...

Well, I bought a car..... so I'll be gunning for you guys next week!

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c228/low69bug/dnano.jpg

There weren't any hop-ups worth getting since you guys bought them all, so I had to do something to make mine unique. I layed the neon green down with a brush, so it isn't perfect, but I'm gonna try to smooth it out a bit.

I was going to get the 911, but chickened out because this one was lower, wider and longer and I think the 911 is going to be a bit stubby. I dunno.... and I opted for this one over the F40 because it was $20 cheaper. LOL

pedrocamp

Good choice! I love that body, I would really like the real one in the garage! It is a mid motor rather than rear and wider than the GT3. I wonder why it is 20 cheaper than the F40?

Faded92mx5
07-25-2009, 09:11 PM
I would imagine that it cost more to get Ferrari licensing....but that said I don't remember what the 360 cost. (Thinking 139, just like the Porsche)

I was just looking at www.racednano.com - The Mooresville location now leads in most laps run WORLDWIDE...I guess they don't call it RACE CITY for nothing... :)

Ouch... I've driven all the dnanos and I think the best chassis out of the box is the F40, most balanced and neutral handling. Can't wait to get out there. :)

each franchise prices differently. the one i bought my cars from sold the skyline r35 at $130! cheapest of the entire bunch at thier store.
i've talked to other stores whom claim to have more balanced pricing across the line but i have not verified this. i do know the farther you go west, the great the price disparity seems to be between models. not sure why that is but from the shops i've emailed, this is the case.

Hey guys, just thought I would remind everyone and make it official that we WILL be racing again this Saturday. Same deal as last week. We will let you in early at 9:30am and this week we will try to actually get the racing started closer to 10:30. I'm pretty sure I have the software figured out and we should be able to run hickup-free. As such, I think we should do three 5-minute heats and the main(s). I predict we should have at least six cars/drivers this week, that is if everyone from last week can make it.

mleemor60
07-28-2009, 08:55 PM
Will you have additional inventory of cars by the weekend? I am looking forward to a Martini/Rossi 917K. I have the core manual to bring along for you to look at and copy.

Faded92mx5
07-28-2009, 09:13 PM
I do not think the shipment will be in by the weekend. Kyosho orders have typically taken 7 days to get to us and Brent just ordered on Monday. Pedro told me you wanted the Martini car, so I'll be sure to put your name on it when we get it.

I will post as soon as we get the order, but I will be very surprised if it comes in this week.

Woohoo! That disc damper looks real interesting. I need tires pretty bad... thats going to be my biggest hinderance on Saturday. (Well, aside from my driving ability)

Did your car come with 50s and 10s? I ended up running FRA 50 fronts and the stock 10 rears. I have the FRA40s I might try again and I also ordered some Atomics to test. Out of all this I am sure I'll have some tires to loan or sell.

Is the store demo up and running again? I looked at the servo last night for the guys and found a small chip on the servo motor gear that was jamming it up. Cleaned it up with an Exacto. Doesn't take much on those little gears.

Yeah, we can't have the store smelling like artificial pine scent. Brent won't even allow us to have a microwave because our frozen TV dinners stink up the store... haha.

Tire sauce isn't needed with the Atomic tires. They reinvent the meaning of sticky.

mleemor60
07-29-2009, 07:03 PM
Do they also re invent the term lack of durability. When we used to race the big Z's on carpet the Atomic tires were great but you went through a couple sets a night.

It's not as bad as you may think. I think the lighter chassis is easier on the tires, but after a couple 6 minute heats you do notice the grip starting to fade. The good news is is that the degradation is very linear and easy to predict. On carpet, the tires are better after a couple heats.

Thanks guys for another great day of racing! Today we had 6 drivers, enough for 2 heats of 3 (having turn marshalls was awesome). Here are the results of the mains, for those that are curious.

B Main
1. Jdob with 57 laps in 5:02.26, fast lap 4.72 (Porsche 962) *Transfered to A Main
2. jlgracing with 53 laps in 5:02.79, fast lap 4.90 (Mazda 787b)
3. legend with 45 laps in 5:03.76, fast lap 5.59 (Ferrari 360)

A Main
1. Pedro with 62 laps in 5:01.98, fast lap 4.46 (Ferrari Enzo)
2. jdob with 58 laps in 5:00.32, fast lap 4.75 (Porsche 962)
3. Mark (me) with 56 laps in 5:00.67, fast lap 4.73 (Porsche Carrera GT)
4. Joe E. retired early with 31 laps, fast lap 4.52 *frustration haha

I was catching jdob, but fell apart at the end. Next week I'll hopefully have a few hop ups installed and be running a bit more consistent. I'm off work next Saturday, but I'm still going to come in and run the races.

legend says he can't make it next Saturday, but hopefully Mike will have a car and we can keep it at six,or more.

Had some fun racing today! Good to see everyone from last week, plus some new faces too! :)

Mike - Sorry for calling you Mark when you were heading out! I will get everyone's names sorted out sooner than later I hope!

I tried the Ball Diff again after I put my 6 tooth pinion back on...seemed a little bit better...I think my lack of steering in the front today came from my tires bumping into the Goop that I lined the under side of the nose of my body with to help hold the light buckets all together! I noticed that there were some rub marks in it when I got home - that must have been what was causing my tires to glaze over in spots???

Hope to be able to make it out next time...

Not that I'm aware of but I will poke around with it. The features of that software are still very limited, and a lot of options are grayed out. Hopefully we'll get an update and some more flexibility eventually.

Had fun, nice to meet and race with jlgracing and legend. Good to have turn marshalls this week as well, I needed them a few times. We had a few spectators too.

Makes sense about the goop jdob, very likely.

you do have the kyosho race version and not the home version? i would assume the home version has disabled many of the features but i would have expected the software given to the hobby shops to be full featured.

does it provide race management or simply single heat races?

pedrocamp

Too bad you can't make it but nothing like a good project car (uhh... money pit)! Hope to race again with you in a couple of weeks.

Mike's Martini 917 is sweet, I would never had guessed it was so small next to the Enzo. These things are to scale though...

mleemor60
08-08-2009, 04:20 PM
For a while today it seemed like Martini&Rossi on the rocks. After six tire changes forty-seven radio adjustments a switch to a mid motor pod and a partridge in a pear tree the little critter almost got hooked up. Maybe a spring change along with another tooth on the spur I will be able to get in the way on the same lap as the leaders.

All in all it was terrific fun. Be back in two weeks. Grand kids take priority. Even if they are in the land of the whispering bushes (psst, hey buddy, over here) California.

Great racing today, jellis had a great run in the main for the win. I even switched to the X to try to keep up but it didn't work...
Mike had his 917 going much better by the race. Car looks very cool going around the track. Thanks to jlg from Hickory for coming and running with us again. Jellis was going out to run with them tonight at the Hickory track, wish I could have come out as well.
Look forward to next time.

I had a good time today with everyone. That car was sooo hooked up it was crazy. I think if we can keep racing on a regular basis like this people will see that we are serious and more will show up. I think JLG said he wasn't going to be able to make it next weekend and mike won't be there, and I have some family coming in so I'm going to be a little iffy. What do you all think about changing the racing to a week night? I havn't talked to brent about this so this is just me thinking out loud. But when Ray opened the indoor oval in mooresville and he had a place for the local race team members to do something on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday night when they are home from the track the place was swamped. What is your opinion?

Jellis
08-08-2009, 10:53 PM
I built and ran the yellow merci at Hickory tonight it was very fast and very stable might have even been bettere than the stock Mc. I put the atomic diff ( theres only 2 problems with it that can be fixed very easy) the atomic damper plate and bearings. My friend Victor was driving the McLarin (He has lots of rc race experience but no mini) and I could keep up with him with the Lambo. I think it might be my best car

pedrocamp
08-09-2009, 08:09 AM
How did the Hickory track compare to Mooresville, same?

Mark, I found your bearing. I found one on the carpet close to where Mike was sitting, I thought it was one of his spares. I will drop off this week.

Faded92mx5
08-09-2009, 10:46 AM
Haha, awesome. Thanks!

Jellis
08-09-2009, 11:26 AM
I thought my car was the same but JLG thought his had more steering we didn't turn the computer on until I was about to leave I did some 4.4's and a bunch of 4.5's with the Lambo.

I couldn't believe how short the run time is with the x speed motor like 6 or 7 minutes

Jellis
08-09-2009, 11:27 AM
I'm just thinking out loud again but wednesday night would be out because that is the day Brent gets his orders in and we all know he dosn't need any more pressure

Faded92mx5
08-09-2009, 12:40 PM
A Main Results:

1. Jellis - 64 laps in 5:02.92, fast lap 4.27
2. pedro - 61 laps in 5:01.51, fast lap 4.31
3. Mike - 53 laps in 5:04.32, fast lap 4.71
4. JLG - 52 laps in 5:02.82, fast lap 4.88
5. I retired early after 20 laps... frustrated :P

If we start racing twice a week, I will probably just run the races for one day and get my fix on the other. We NEED a bigger croud, for marshalls. Turning your own car, or making the decision to be nice and stop to help an overturned car near you... just plain sucks.

mleemor60
08-09-2009, 03:42 PM
Today at Rattlesnake Raceway the 917 worked perfectly in rear motor configuration. There is enough room for a decent RCP set up so maybe we can hold a super speedway race here while the crowd is still small.

Jellis
08-09-2009, 10:03 PM
Mark I was suggesting to race a weeknight instead of saturday

Also I think we need to move the lap counter to the short straight just before the sweeper I think the cars are going a little slower there and less chance of losing or gaining a lap from eighter going too fast over the loop or jumping the track

On road racing? Details please. I have a couple of metric tons of stuff to get rid of so it sounds like an opportunity.

I think Tuesday would be good, especially since many racing industry guys are in town. A 7:00 start time would work for me as well.

While I don't have a car yet, that would work for me as well.Plenty of time to get home grab a bite to eat and come race.Plus it shouldn't cause a problem with my 4:00 AM wake up call every morning.

BTW going back to the stock motor this week plenty of time for a mod class in the future. I got scolded for maybe discuraging other racers sorry if I did that.

Can't make this Tuesday but I will probably be in for next. I agree on the stock motor, I will fit one as well. I think it does discourage new guys when they feel they need to bolt an X Speed in and can't control the thing. A stock motor is plenty fast in these things.

I see you've been racking up some laps for the past few days.Thats what I like about this whole thing;being able to see where you rank among other people. Its pretty cool.

Yeah, it would be awesome and really helpful if you could see the true 'best lap' but as it stands, its hard to define what a real lap is. It is unfortunate that Kyosho can't exactly go through and delete bogus-appearing laps.

By the way, does anyone still want/prefer to race this Saturday? I have not heard anything negative towards Tues. night racing, but just wanted to have it on record that I asked.

Also, I decided to hang up the controller for now and focus on race director duties. I felt that the racing was suffering without having someone designated to the laptop for every race, and I enjoy being at the computer and calling the heats, so Joe now has my Carrera GT.

Yeah .80 is kinda far fetched they should have an option in the software to ignore anything under X number of seconds I would suggest 3 seconds right now. Most every slot timer has this feature.

That feature is built into the 'home lapcounter' ... the one that doesn't upload laps to racednano.com, but the official laps that you are supposed to pay for and that are uploaded, there aparently is no feature as of right now.

Tuesdays will work best for me.Work is picking up again I will be working this Saturday to finish getting my funds together. If things go as usual we'll be on 6 day weeks by October if not sooner. So I'll wind up with a stable of cars and 0ne or two nights available to race through the week; but I should be able to make Saturday evening races at Hickory if they get going.Seems that this group here is the most active one going.

If everything goes as planned I'll be there next Tuesday to buy my car, controller, bearing set and ball diff and probably some replacement tires. From what I've read about the stock ones.I got a deal I couldnt pass up on a second battery last weekend so I have an extra dNano battery waiting on the charger to arrive.Next up is a decent carrying case to put everything in.H.O slotcar stuff might have to find a new home; or the old 1/25th slotcar stuff its a nicer box but heavy.

I will probably race that night in the stock configuration.I have some fine tuning to do on the ball diff that I know of already. The car will most likely stink out of the box but I gotta put some laps on it for a good baseline. After that; Joe I don't know if I'll catch up to you or not but I've got my eye on second place already.Schools back in vacation time getting ready to start over new racetrack in town;sounds like a good combination.

We are pushing to make Tues the big race day, but the track is still availabe for use on Saturday of course (and every other day of the week, besides Wednesday).

Nitro, a nearly stock car, when driven cleanly, is almost competitive. It takes a couple minutes to throw the bearings in it, and maybe a tire change is all you'll need for your first night of sucessful racing. Joe isn't as fast as he is hyped up to be; he just really has his nose buried in the cars and practice right now. Rob Meyer gave him a good run for his money, and actually won at least 5 rounds (albeit, in a J. Ellis prepared car) with last night being the first time he ever drove a dNano.

Yeah I'll be a car tuner myself.Thats what drew me to Helis the drawback is crash expense. The cars won't be as costly and I know a little more about "blue printing" a car. What I really like at the moment is the limited motor selection so as far as motors it should stay pretty close.I'll take handling over speed most of the time.I raced slotcars a long time and I am really excited about these.I really see these replacing slot cars if nothing else due to the ease and cost of track construction and assembly in case you can't leave it set up all of the time. The next thing that needs to happen is an affordable timing software for home use.The Kyosho system looks nice but the pricing is a bit much for what it does; verses a slot timing system that has to be able to control track power for segments or heats and all of the cables that go with them.

Well I couldnt wait till next week on everything so I went on and bought my car, diff and bearings today.I am working on making the diff super smooth right now I have it better but not quite how I want it yet.

Radio and charger will be bought Tuesday I hope.

I got a good look at the Martini 917 while I was there. That will definately be my next car purchase. Then I'll wait for a white body to be released for the Gulf project.

This may be addictive

I want to move to NC really bad to come play w you guys.
I had bought a dnano before they came to the states. I really like it, but here in SoFLA, there was only one mini-z track and people didn't want to get into the dnano. So i sold my enzo. Anyway I want to buy an F40 or Porsche... but I want people to race with. How does the home racing work?

nitrojunkie
09-04-2009, 11:39 AM
Green Lamborghini murcielago.

Yep thats the one.I've got the diff freed up pretty good and all bearings in.This made the car a whole lot smoother to the touch. Can't wait to drive it.

Profoxcg; I know what you mean about wanting somebody to race. That was my whole attraction to this;as I've said before I used to race slotcars and now all of the commercial tracks are gone in this area.It will take this a little while to catch on I believe due to the initial cost, but considering the long term costs it will actually be cheaper I believe. Not to mention the ease of building a racing surface that can be altered at anytime in a short amount of time.Another big plus is it being so portable.I like the Hobbytown racing to get it going and get it to the mainstream but I am also looking to the future for what it could turn into long range.Don't get me wrong I will support my Hobbytown but due to their limited population in some areas it could hinder the growth of this product line.I like sports car racing personally but the masses here are going to want a COT eventually to go oval racing.Lets face it this is as close on a small scale as we will get to reproducing anything like real racing as far as the number of cars on the track at one time goes. What do you guys think and girls where applicable.

Faded92mx5
09-04-2009, 03:31 PM
It will be interesting to see what happens after the HobbyTown exclusivity ends. As you said, I'm sure we'll see ovals and tracks with banking, elevation changes, etc... and the aftermarket should get bigger as well.
