Video of my dNaNo's first run

These look too cool, so I had to have one ;) On the way home I stopped by a Walmart in hopes of finding the puzzle pads that some carry - it's similar to RCP in material, comes in 2' squares, and the edges fit together like a puzzle. I bought two packs at $18 each, and put up a small track in the den. I have some foam to make railing with too but I couldn't wait to get this thing on the track, so I just imagined the barriers. The surface worked better than I expected. The joints were a little bumpy but once I get a more permanent location for it I plan to tape over them in hopes it smooths it out. It didn't really cause any hopping but there was a clicking as you crossed the joints.

I had a ton of fun on the first drive, went for maybe half an hour and didn't run the battery all the way down. The car in the video is out of the box, no mods or setup adjustments. It has a bit of push on this surface but with a little practice on braking I could get some decent laps in pretty soon after picking it up for the first time.

Congrats on your dNano. I assume this isn't your 1st RC car because your driving is not bad.
Two packs of 6 mats for $36 is not bad at all either. I paid $17 for each pack of 4 mats. :( I use the smooth side with 1.5" wide masking tape over the joints.
How much did you pay for the whole thing?

The total at Hobbytown USA was right at $301. I bought the car/chassis set, the starter pack, an extra battery, and a pair of 40 front tires. Oh and also bought a set of 1/32 scale pit crew figures that look close enough to scale that I plan to use them when I build a permanent track ;)

Looks like Mini-96 to me.

BTW, for you guys rockin' dNano on RCP take the time and use vaccuumed, smooth side and reassemble rails. Also if you spend a little extra time to match them you will find the grip is still great and the experience is much smoother!!

Yep, I have the mini-96 with expansion.. I got a good deal on a used setup. I have a lot more track than what's shown there, that's just all I have room for inside. That's a great part of the appeal to me with the dNano, you can get a reasonable track setup in a small area.

On the "vacuumed smooth side" comment- do you mean the "drift" side? I haven't tried that but I was wondering if it would be usable. Traction is very high on the grip side with a stock setup, I get traction rolls in fast corners if I try to be too aggressive.

You probably can when RCP releases their new dNaNo track. ;) I'm really anxious to see what they come up with.
