View Full Version : Kyosho Dnano U.S. Release Coming Soon...
Hey Guys - I have been in contact with Hobbytown through e-mail the past couple of days - The Kyosho Dnano's should start popping up at your local Hobbytown stores in the next couple of weeks - IF they were interested in supporting them...You just have to call around, ask questions, and show some interest. Some stores jumped on it and will know exactly what you are talking about, others didn't and probably won't have a clue what you are talking about??? I e-mailed the Hobbytown in IL mentioned in one of the threads below and was told that they had just gotten a shipment in and to call them to make a purchase. You will have to pay shipping, but they can and will do a mail order for you. Do some searching - I am sure there are more out there to be found...Good luck...

Hello everyone,
The dNaNo project is a project that we have been working on for quite some time now. It was getting to the point where it unusual for all of us to get home at a reasonable time instead of working long after business hours. But all of our hard work has paid off. We are setting up HobbyTown locations with tracks and cars faster than we ever imagined. By this time next week we should have over five locations. HobbyTown stores have been waiting very patiently and we greatly appreciate that. Now it’s show time. If there is a HobbyTown in your area that is interested, please let me know. I am doing everything that I can on my end. You have to remember that I’m just one guy and there are a lot more of you. We can work together and make this huge. Just to give you an idea of how much work we put into this project check out this site http://racednano.com/. Please feel free to post any questions.

Nice job Kyosho America,
I've seen these cars and the track they race on, it rocks! Kyosho always takes time on putting out the best quality products!
Awesome! I can't wait for everyone to get up to speed and start running these things!!!
I know that my local Hobbytown was supposed to be getting involved...Any info on what may be happening at the store in Greensboro, NC???

Thanks!

no store in my area that is interested that i know of either :( i will be left mail ordering from some other htusa
I sent out a mass email to the HTUSA locations in my area. I just got 2 replies. The HTUSA in Greensboro, North Carolina doesn't have the indoor facilities to accommodate an indoor track, but is still considering carrying dNaNo parts. However, the HTUSA in Mooresville, North Carolina has plans to carry everything dNaNo and build a dNaNo track. Mooresville is a bit of a drive, but I'm not being too picky at this point. Just a little good news for dNaNo owners in NC.

Booo....Greensboro is closest to me, and Yay....Mooresville isn't too far to go for some 1/43 scale fun...I look forward to coming to whichever Hobbytown local to me has anything Dnano - or anything parking lot racing related - hint, hint, hint...

Thanks for the update Deven! I think everyone will have a lot of input, complaints, ideas etc. that they want to share, but for now, let's all just congratulate the Kyosho team for finally getting these to the US! The racednano.com site looks like it has a lot of potential. Is there really a public track at Kyosho America HQ (listed as a store under locations!)? :)

Hey guys, new to the site here. I work at HTU Mooresville and this morning is the first I heard we were going to carry the Dnano. Searching google for more info (since I'd never heard of them) I ran across this thread. Apparently we will be getting them and will have a track, but no idea when exactly (obviously). I'll update you as I find out more.

i have to ask, why is it shops don't like racing on the weekends? most shops with tracks race weeknights which i can understand as you want to draw traffic throughout the week but many like myself don't get home till almost 8pm making weeknight racing impossible. i have to jump though hoops just to get our mini-z racing on saturdays.

Historically, weeknights draw higher crowds. Most everyone has other hobbies that take up their time on weekends. (Car shows, taking the boat out on the lake, etc....) or honey-do lists, mow the lawn, etc... I am not sure what nights we will be racing, but I would bet money that one of our three nights will be on the weekend.
Good to have you on Faded92mx5. Keep us posted on the progress if you don't mind.

The standard track that all of the hobbytowns are setting up is 12X8. We have tracks as wells as the timing-and-scoring loops in stock. We also have all of the cars, bodies, tires, wheels, and parts in stock.I will contact you on Monday with all of the details.

What kind of tracks can we expect in HTUSAs? Something similar to RCP? A carpet track? Can people who don't own/run a HTUSA buy these tracks?

Not sure what they'll be made from... but I have been told that each track will be identical and there will be a national leaderboard. From what my boss has said, everything will be exclusive to HTUSA for _XX_ months, so I doubt you'll be able to buy one.

From racednano.com (http://racednano.com/index.php?page=experience):
The running surface is a long wear carpet that provides the best driving experience and keep the cars looking good should they get upside down...

I'm not sure. My boss just told me that he got word Friday that there was an official exclusive deal between HTU and Kyosho. 12, 18, 24 months probably isn't too unreasonable a guess. I'm sure KyoshoAmerica could elaborate, if it isn't classified info that is. ;)
Its all very exciting in my opinion. For the past month or so we've been brainstorming different ideas for an R/C track...but it just isn't feasible with our store to run/maintain a full-fledged 1/10+ track. This will be perfect for us.... and it'll give me something to do when there aren't any customers in the store :D

Hah, I'm jealous.... I hope to make my next roadster a 2zz swapped MR-S.
I spoke with my boss again today; he should have a rough ETA this week after he orders from Kyosho... still no idea at the moment. As I said before, his initial idea is to race 3 nights a week, and right now he wants to do it Friday/Saturday/Sunday. If it doesn't work out, we can always change it.

Yeah, we have some Road Rail and might want to try parking lot racing... but the only issue is getting people interested. We hardly sell any touring/on-road stuff in our store, there just isn't any interest in it, so trying to race something like that is hard. We're leaning toward a Team Losi Mini Latemodel series. They're getting really popular with the guys that work on Nascar teams in our area.

Yeah - Getting people to commit to a particular chassis/motor/battery combo is pretty near impossible! I was hoping that maybe somebody would start up a new class with the release of the new HPI Cup Racer kit that is coming out soon - that would be cool! But anyways - lets get back to the dNaNo info...:)

Yeah, those cars definitely look awesome. We'll race anything we get people asking for. If four or five guys have them, we'll race them.

We'll be definitely be carrying parts for the dNaNo, though for Kyosho parts we have to wait until the HTUSA exclusivity period is over. I can't explain Kyosho's limiting their product in this way, there's no logical reason for it that I can figure out, but at the moment I'm just trying to keep things positive and be thankful that they're at least reaching the US in any form after all of the delays.

Correct - the only legit way right now is to walk into an HTUSA location. Obviously we all hope that vendors such as ourselves will be able to stock them once the exclusivity period is over.

HTU has a lot of market penetration, and for Kyosho to arrange an exclusive deal piques HTU owners' interest and persuades them to bring the product into the store. If Kyosho had just distributed this product like everything else, you would probably be able to count on one hand how many HTU locations had dNano tracks or even supported the line. I think it was a pretty smart move. Now, a ton of HTU's are going to carry it, and maybe more people will get involved. When the exclusive deal wears off, there will be a lot more consumer interest in these cars.

Faded92mx5, what you describe is why it was a good thing for HTUSA - I meant I couldn't understand why Kyosho would limit themselves this way - there must be a good reason, it's just not one that we've been able to deduce based on the information that we have. For example, it may be worth crippling sales initially in order to do a small "test" before opening the floodgates - this is what they did in JP, by only selling them at a handful of Kyosho stores at first - this probably gave them a chance to make sure the software works OK etc. before they got bombarded w/ 100 locations with 100 racers each, taking down their web server and blemishing the product image on day 1. Regardless, I'm trying not to get into that in this thread - if someone wants to start another thread to discuss the topic, please do, but let's try to keep this thread for information about the release and about the locations where we can get our hands on these etc. :)

pd, there must be a reason why Kyosho are shutting out almost their entire customer base and their established dealer network - there's not much we can do but wait to find out the logic behind all of this - I've got a lot more information than most about this and I can't figure it out, so let's just wait and see. For now though let's just be happy that they're available in the US at all after the long wait. :)

Well, you should be able to find a location that sells them. Remember, we just found out this past Friday that we were going to carry them. There are going to be more than 4 locations carrying it, just give it a few weeks.
Now, for the good news! Kyosho says we're 5th in line to get our track. They say 3 weeks. It could potentially take as long as 6-8wks IMHO.

Yap, but at what price? They would be buying at retail and marking it up to cover ebay, paypal and other fee's on top of making a profit. They also have to charge for shipping. The car is already expensive as is.

You guys can just call a Hobbytown that has them in stock and they can take your order over the phone and mail it to you - that's what I did...I guess it is NOT a guarantee that EVERY Hobbytown will do mail order for you, but just call and ask...I got mine mail ordered from the Hobbytown in IL last week...Pricing is still expensive for such a little car, but noticeably better than eBay or dNaNoShop...just call and ask...

The cars were like $149.00 or $159.00 depending on which one, and the transmitter, battery, charger combo was like $99.99....So it's like $250 and then $10 or $15 for UPS Shipping...Depending on whether or not you are in the same state you may have to pay sales tax too...

Great info jdob - thanks for sharing! :)

I know what MAP pricing is but I'm not sure if it is ok to post it here. The site admin might not like it.

Thanks for checking Art, but go ahead! :)
Thanks TinyRC, The MAP pricing I have seen puts the cars at 139.99 to 159.99. The Ferraris are the most expensive. I have been told this is due to licensing fees paid to the Maufacturer. My local Hobby Town has assured me that they will stick with the MAP pricing to keep things resonable. The Radio Kit MAP is 99.00.

can anyone form htu explain the purchasing process? the dnano website mentions car registration at time of purchase.
what are the purchase requirements, restrictions, etc.
will a car not purchased in person be able to be registered on the dnano website? a good number of us will simply not be able to purchase them in person due to this decision on htu exclusivity.

Hobbytown stores are not allowed to sell online. The dNaNo is sold only in the HTUSA stores.
can you explain why this is?
how are persons like myself supposed to purchase these if local htu do not carry them?
what are the purchase requirements and/or restrictions?
how does this process involve the registering of your dnano on the dnano website?
what are the implications of purchasing your dnano online (outside htu channels)? i do not intend to do this but there has not been any clear information put forth on this whole process yet.

As mentioned earlier, some HTU's will ship stuff to you. The reason for not allowing e-stores is this: For obvious reasons, they do not allow separate franchises within a certain distance from each other. They would have to fight for business. For the same reason, you can't sell online. IE, A customer in Chicago would be able to buy from Mooresville, for whatever reason, instead of shopping locally at the Chicago location. Having this restriction guarantees a customer base that has no other option, and this adds value in the eyes of the franchisee.
As for registration, I believe you do not have to do it at the time of purchase. From what I have been told, its $30 a year, and based on each chassis' unique RFID number. If you buy a car that has not been registered, and have it shipped, you should be okay....and should be able to register it at any time. My question to you is, if there isn't a local HTU track to race on, why do you care? Now, if you're just talking about warranty registration, I don't have an answer for you. Haha
I do not know how the registration process works; KyoshoAmerica will have to chime in on that until I've had one of these cars out of the box and gotten some experience with it.

Registration is free with the purchase of the car. When you register is allows you a free 3 months access to your account at www.racednano.com. After the 3 months free trial for the website, you can sign up for a 1 year membership for 29.99. The details are available on http://www.racednano.com/index.php?page=experience.

technically, the website says you get some period of time for free (3 months maybe?)
would this be $30 annually per registered car?
Each dNaNo has a built in lap-counting IC chip so each car can be uniquely identified. Upon purchase of a car, the customer registers the car to his unique on-line ID of his choosing. This is done through the dNaNo Track Management software. Very little info is needed: User ID, password and email address. That’s it. Once registered the driver has free access to racednano.com for three months. After three months they can choose to sign up for a one year membership for only $29.99 or just over $2 a month.
not to be a party crasher but the entire trophy system is built upon you spending money. it's nothing more than a rewards based system for continually dumping cash in thier pockets. there are exceptions however within the skilled and best lap clubs
On their garage page on racednano.com he or she can view the cars they own and lap times for each car that has been run at a dNaNo circuit. They can also see stats on each car like total service time and total laps. Click into the trophy room and the driver can see what clubs and achievements they have earned. The clubs consist of the Experienced Driver’s Club, Skilled Drivers Club, Collector’s Club, Tuners Club and the Lap Record Club. Within each club are the achievements. In the Experienced Driver’s Club you can achieve awards for number of laps run from 100 to 100,000. In the Skilled Driver’s Club it’s all about speed. Achieve a certain lap time on a particular layout and you will move from Experienced, to Semi-Pro or Semi-Pro to Pro. In the Collector’s Club it’s all about your garage. The more cars you have, the more awards you achieve. The Tuner’s Club is for the gear heads. Buy a hop up part and register it with the shop and it’s added to your gear. The more you tune, the more you earn. Last comes the Lap Record Club. This one is for all the time sheet junkies who want to make sure they are the fastest at their track and or regionally or nationally.

$30 is to register you. You can have many cars under your membership.

so $30 to register, $30 annually to keep your online membership active.
very glad to hear it's per membership, not per car.

I just got my dNaNo in the mail today from Hobbytown, IL. Dayum!!! These things are TINY! And the packaging is really COOL! Unfortunately my Rear Suspension Plate was broken in the package...bummer...so I can't run it until I get a replacement...Guess I don't have to think to long about what my first option part is going to be...ha, ha, ha. So now I am just reading thru all of the literature that came with everything and just checking it all out...not to mention looking thru all of the dNaNo threads that I haven't checked out yet!

Come on man... Take it off the car, glue it back together and trace it on some scrap lexan or an old credit card and then cut it out. You can make a replacement long before one gets to you.

Just got my new Carbon Rear Suspension Plate (Medium) & Front Shock Spring Set from Jason's Store on E-Bay...$21.50 for both including shipping from Japan and they arrived in less than a week! Ordered the 17th and received them in NC on the 23rd...Not too bad!

We will take care of anyone who has a need for dnanos. If you have a local Hobbytown, please support them first, if not, we will help you. We have had a track since October 2008, and have been demoing cars since then. Our inventory is low as this post is being put up as we sold 7 cars last week but we are reordering tomorrow. Prices are either $149 or $154 and the starter packs are $99. We also stock all of the parts. We take credit cards and shipping is between $10-20 depending on proximity to IL. Please call our store at 708-349-8697 or email to htusaopil@sbcglobal.net

What all is included in the car set for $149 - $154? What is in the starter kit for $99. I would pay less money to order from you then if I got them from a HobbytownUSA in my state since the sales tax would be more than the shipping costs in my own state. No sales tax if I bought from you. I don't live in your state. I could also save on the gas to drive to our HobbytownUSA which is far away. Thanks for the deal.

Is that even legal? I think thats if you buy from the HobbytownUSA website. If we buy dNaNo stuff via email, I dont think we pay the 10% if we dont live in the same state. Sorry man, HTUSA Mooresville isn't currently taking orders over the phone or shipping. You shouldn't have to pay sales tax. It should work just like any e-store or online purchase. If it's shipped to a different state, should be no tax.

We do not charge sales tax on out of state sales, if you order over the phone, which is the only way to order a dnano from our store from out of state. We do not sell dnano over the net. Our IL Sales Tax is 9.75% By the way the Bearing Sets are backordered from Kyosho. I will have a dozen cars hopefully by Friday, worst case Monday. Sold 9 in the past week, they are going fast.
The car is the chassis and body for $149-$154
The starter set is the 2.4 Radio, Lithium Ion Battery and Charger for $99
You need 4 AA for the charger and 4 AAA for the radio.
We also stock all of the upgrade parts. However the Gyro is also on B/O from Kyosho. I have 1 left in stock

The person taking the order over the phone has to enter the order as an out of State tax Exempt order. The Hobbytown Point of Sale System assumes that all orders are being purchased in store and automatically adds sales tax. There is no way to buy a dnano from HobbyTown online. Hope this helps

Accounts are created automatically for you at the hobby shop that you purchased the car from. The only way that we have been able to register the cars is to run them on our track and have the RFID tag recognized by the dnano race software. I will have to ask Kyosho if there is a way to manually enter the RFID info. Registering the car only tracks you times and numbers of laps run on an official dnano track. It has nothing to do with warranty.
