I'm sure most of the Dn owners played with this idea already (and shame on those who didn't), so I was wondering how such conversions end up looking and working? Thats the wheelbases available and axle widths? Thanks.

Not Die Cast, but fovea's got some plastic and Epoch bodies:

the weight alone would be detrimental to the performance. your going to get less run time and much higher motor heat, potentially battery heat etc. as it all has to work a bit harder to move it all around.

i would stay away from die cast. there are ungodly amounts of plastic 1:43 lines to choose from.

I noticed that several brands start making finished 1/43 resin models with very high quality of details (wipers, mirrors, antennas, grills), hence the price!
Here are a few:
Bizarre (http://www.modelcarworld.de/relaunch/shopsearch.php?userid=3519885&f=*HERSTELLER&c=Bizarre&f1=STOCK&c1=>0&t=shopsearch3&start=1&dif=100&language=de) some nice historic pan cars/Le Mans here.
Look Smart (http://www.modelcarworld.de/relaunch/his-webshop.pl?script=shopsearch.php&t=temindex_php&userid=3519885&f=%2AHERSTELLER&c=Look+Smart&f1=STOCK&c1=%3E0&t2=shopsearch3&start=1&dif=100&language=de&)
Neo (http://www.modelcarworld.de/relaunch/shopsearch.php?userid=3519885&f=*HERSTELLER&c=Neo&f1=STOCK&c1=>0&t=shopsearch3&start=1&dif=100&language=de)
Spark (http://www.modelcarworld.de/relaunch/his-webshop.pl?script=shopsearch.php&t=temindex_php&userid=3519885&f=%2AHERSTELLER&c=Spark&f1=STOCK&c1=%3E0&t2=shopsearch3&start=1&dif=100&language=de&)
I hope the moderators won't mind since these are shop links. Please erase if necessary.

Now at that price better check carefully the dimensions before buying.
I guess only large size cars would fit (forget the compacts).
Also not your everyday Dnano body ;)

EDIT: I just bought a Neo static model in 1/43 (Porsche 930 Turbo). Althrough it looks fantastic and to scale, it won't work, don't buy them for adaptation to a Dnano chassis! I thought the body would be made in some kind of light plastic like plastic kit cars. In fact the resin is very very thick and heavy, the body is even heavier than some die cast models. I am a little disapointed... well, you don't try you don't know :) Last solution would be taking a cast from that body and make a lighter version.

Are there plenty of regular production cars in plastic that aren't 70-120$ though? Toyotas, hondas, etc? My only knowledge are some cheap oversea knockoffs that don't even get a metal treatment, but there's no steady line or a way to find them/cars I'd like made.

Ebbro are die-casts though, at least last few I bought were. Same with AutoArt and various other good lines.

ebbro has a resin line.... a simple google search will answer many of the questions you've asked.

don't forget to search slot cars too! those are bound to be single peice plastic. here is a good place to start. (http://homepage.mac.com/pmarchand/143_firms.htm)

I've built/detailed a number of resin kits and they are really heavy too. The great part is in 1/43 scale they virtually make every cool car ever made. I thought about getting a couple and "thinning" them down. I am also sketchy on how strong they would be in impacts. The dNano does get going pretty fast you know:)

Hi there fellas. An interesting thread in this Dnano section. I just purchased off ebay a 1/43 scale plastic model kit from Heller of the Renault R5 Turbo.
I will let you know how it fit's when I receive it. I plan on painting it street-red like the one Flatima Blush had in Never Say Never Again.
Die-casts would definitely be too heavy for Dnano's. I was also wondering about resin models because there exists a 1/43 scale resin model kit of my all time favorite super car, the Koenig-Specials Competition "Testarossa" which would be a killer racing body! But having just read that resin is even heavier than die-cast? I'll have to let that go.
There are also SuperSlick toy's that are also 1/43 scale RC cars, but are made cheaply and sold by Toys R Us. There bodies "SHOULD" fit the Dnano, and they are plastic.
The SuperSlicks have Mini Cooper S, Porsche 911 GT3, Nissan 350Z, Skyline, Dodge Viper, a certain compact Mercedes car, and a BMW Z3 to name a few.
By the way, that Citroen is very nice! What car-chassis did that one fit?
