wouldnt you be putting more torque on one front wheel with this set up? or is the track and gearing too high to allow anything like that?
the drive shaft is mounted front to back, so if your gonna distribute power to the front its gonna wanna spin like one of those trickster things if its crawling almost completely vertical. am i right?

@nasphere
You are right, but it happens only in real difficult trial sections. Under normal circumstances the car performs very well.

looks cool except the video is messed up...
maybe a zzm would be easy to find ball bearings for, they could get rid of that axle spin because of less friction. im really likin that tortion ability of your truck though, gives it personality...
im actually working on a full true propo 4wd bit, but im waiting till i make a custom chassis. i need to make the internals for the car and im almost done with the controller, the controller is about 2x the size of the whole zz car!!! my 4wd set up doesnt have a drive shaft and is incapeable of tortion like that, its got gears running front to back, so meshing is an issue if it did that...
anyways, good job, i love it
common show a pic of what you did i wanna do this

Here are some details
I exchanged the original drive shaft with a 2 mm steel shaft. You can easily remove the bevel gears from the original shaft. The new shaft fits perfect in a brass pipe with 2 mm inner and 3 mm outer diameter. The pipe is glued into the lower chassis part.
The two chassis parts are joined together by a ball bearing with 6 mm outer and 3 mm inner diameter. I pressed the ball bearing into a 3 mm thick sheet of alloy, which i screwed to the rear axle. That's it.

The pcb i used is from a kyosho mini-z.

why dont you put some stops on the chassis so that the chassis cant spin all the way around....and only like 45 degrees or something....i like the bug body...what did u get that off of?
diets

@theone&only....
The body is from a motorized toy, which i bought for only 1 EUR at whoolworth/germany month ago.
Stops are not necessary, the car doesn't spin that much. Also, the wheels are limiting the articulation.
I will add some supension, made out of thin steel wire. I'll post the results.

Thats some really amazing work.
The videos, pics and all come in real handy to telling your story and helpin' people realize what you just did.
But I do have one request. A top chassis shot without the board cover.
Was it a Mini-Z board or a Iwaver board? Some people like to interchange the two names. Which I hate!!
Good work.
Stop past BitPimps (http://bitpimps.lixlink.com) forum sometime and drop in and introduce yourself.

Hi sg219!
My crawler is based and inspired on the crawler made by microsash from a german forum, which you already found ;)
top view of my crawler (http://www.consunddiets.de/public/rc/zz/monster/zzm-di.jpg)
Search for "ZZ Monster Proportionalumbau" or "zipzap monster" in the german forum, where i usually post. There you can find more Pic's and a "how to".
It was actually an Iwaver-Board. But i think a Mini-Z-Board should work as well.
Could any admin tell me, if it is allowed to post links to other forums?

Sorry, i can not make any mod's for you.
I have too much unfinished project of my own - and too less time :o
If you have any particular questions about the mod, please feel free to ask.
Here is a short table, listing what you will need for the mod:
Zipzap Monster
Mini-Z / IWaver board ~ USD 40
Mini-Servo the fits into the chassis ~ USD 20
Lipo cell ~ USD 15
small parts (brass tube, ball bearing, etc) ~ USD 5
You will also need a lipo charger and a compatible transmitter with crystals.

You should have some soldering skills, cause you have a lot of wires to connect to do the proportional mod :)

There are no bearing in the ZZMT. I am not sure if there is any need for bearings, regardless of that there is almost no space for them.
The bearing in my mod is only for the articulation. It is 3 x 6 x 2.5 mm, normaly used at Mini-Z rear wheels and gearbox.
