i just got an MT last night, and this thing is awesome. i noticed tho that even with the upgrades it didn't feel the way i expected it to. i looked at the pinion gear and realized it was a 7 tooth. they're good for speed but not for torque. i use them on my ZZ's for a better top end. my MT was also making alot of noise and having a hard time with the higher upgrades. it was fast going straight, but struggled in reverse and turning. so i grabbed a 6 tooth pinion, drilled it out to fit the larger motor, put it on and, viola! drives like a truck. smoother turns, backs up better, sounds better, climbs better. i don't know why they would use a speed gear on a truck meant for power, and a power gear on a car meant for speed. i hope someone else tries this and posts their results. just so i know it's not just me being anal.:p

How did you drill a bigger hole in the gear? I would be afraid of drilling through the thing or shredding it to pieces...

i did it by hand. take a small drill bit the same size as the armature you're putting it on, hold it in 1 hand with a pair of pliers, and turn the pinion on the bit till it goes thru. this helps to keep the hole striaght.

what i like to do is stick a pin in the hole the size of the armature (different sized pins for moms sewing machine) and evenly force it through a slightly heated (only hot enough to help get the pin through.) but you dont nead to heat it but i like to and also i had tried the six tooth pinion and all i have to say is that guy is right...radio shack doesnt really know what there getting into when they try to make these things. but i stand with 6tooth pinion. way better. ::wow my first post in like a million years::

Aren't the ZZMT pinions too big for use on a ZZ or ZZSE? Then how do you use 7T's on your ZZ's? If a 7T fits on a ZZ, can it fit on a Bit/MS?

i don't use the pinions from the MT's on my ZZ's. the hole is too big. mine are from KITT racers and other clones. you have to make a 7 work on a ZZ. i have smaller size transfer gears for that. same ratio, just a little smaller in diameter so it will fit without modding the chassis.

That is a great mod. I used a push pin to open up the hole in the gear for the m.t. motor shaft. I am doing this to all my motors. What good are my old zip zaps now that these things are here. I use all my old bodies for Monster forage. Anyway this mod was easy and effective.

The 6 tooth pinion gear was a great idea - but the moster was still too fast for crawling :(

I decided to put an additional gear into the gearbox. The gear is from a tank, but you could use anyone you have from a zipzap. The gear has 7 and 19 teeth. I used a wheel pin from a bit for the axle.

Now i have a overall gear ration of 72:1, instead the stock 24:1 :D

wow, that's gotta be slow. how's the power now? you should tri cell it with the stock motor. granny low.

There is a 7-tooth pinion gear for bits. I was looking in my box of spare parts after I read this post and I've found it. I believe this pinion gear came from the MicroBlast mini r/c's that they sell at Target (or Walmart?). I'm pretty sure it came from that car, but the Motorworks 1/64th Nascar could also be the one.

I wish I could be more specific, but I'm positive it's from one of the two.

Incredible, nothing can't stop it now :D

I use a li-poly cell with 3.7 volt ;) It is extrem slow and because of the low amp consumption the monster runs at least half an hour

take one from a clone or a ZZ motor, drill it out to fit the MT motor.:p
