View Full Version : First Bit body I have painted!

Just finished my painting my first Bit Body and I dont even have a car yet. lol. I am actually quite pleased with the results. Although I painted 1/10 RC bodies for 3 years its still an achievement for me :p. Although it looks really pinky in the pic, its actually Racing red (think Ferrari Red) wit a thin layer of pearl purple. These are both Pactra Lexan paints if anyone wants to know. Anyway, after the Pearl, I Sprayed it with clear to add a shine. The results were pretty pleasing, the color is red from some angles, and pearly pink from others.
have a look for yourself :p

hey those are real nice jobs... real clean.
Question: is the pactra paint acrylic or enamel?
I usually use tamiya acrylic (easy clean up)
Thanks :)

Pactra paints are laquers according to Testors. But basically it is a special paint that kind of eats into the lexan, so that instead of chipping off at impact, it flexes. The paint compound is also im suspecting a bit more rubbery, I dont know all the details. They are for clear lexan bodies (ussually 1/10, 1/18 etc) But since thats all I had, I used it and it worked great :) Heres a link to the Testors site (Pactra made by Testors) http://www.testors.com/Products.asp?act%5fid=4&exp%5fid=&cat%5fid=90

very nice...you should do some closeups with them on a bit chassis in good light...that would be sweet.

I would but. I dont have a bit chassis *yet* and my camera doesnt like closeups. But its 2.1 megapixel, so If I put them at the right range it should still look pretty good. :p

No macro function on your 2.1 megapixel digicam?
Need4Speed210

macro, um yeah I think there is, may you enlighten me on what it is? Are you meaning like close up mode? cuz thats what I have been using... thx :p

no prob at all! I wish you the best luck with the paints. They seem to work perfectly with the bodies and dont react with other paints types (ie. clear gloss enamel) Theres some pretty nice colors as well! :D :D

hey need4speed gj on the rx-7. should i get a partra paint 4 my clear rx-7? cuz i have a blue, red, and clear rx-7 body's and dont whtat 2 paint the clear 1 wit. i have acrylic markers but im afraid its gonna leave streaks. i also have a can of fast dry spray paint but when i tested it out wit my accord body, it was very stiky. dose black patra paint get stiicky when u finish? and dose it shine or reflect?
Need4Speed210

well Black pactra paint is semi-glossy when dry. It shouldnt be sticky when its completely dry either. Are you sure you sprayed in thin enough coats and allowed enough time for it to completely dry? If I was using any paint, spray or brush I would probably always use a clear final coat. It makes it look alot smoother and gives a better shine. :)

so u didnt just use patra paint? cuz wen i paint my bit accord , all i used was spray paint. what kind of clear coat u use? and can u tell me the steps of painting?
Need4Speed210

Well the clear I used is called 'Tremclad Clear'. Its probably not the best but its what I have already.
My steps of painting were:
1. Clean Body thoroughly with soap and water- ensures that paint sticks and bonds properly.
2. Mask the windows with a type of adhesive paper or masking tape. I used white label paper because I had a sheet already cut up a bit.
3. Painting- I started with the Pactra Racing Red, spraying in thin, even coats. Once I had enough coats (about 2 or 3) I let it dry for about 20 min.
4. (Optional)- I Sprayed on a VERY light coat of Pactra Pearl Purple. You by no means have to do this, I just used to get a certain effect. (ie the color change effect) Then left to dry for about 20 min.
5. Sprayed the entire car (with masks still on) with Clear spray. Again, apply in thin, even coats.
6.Once this is all done, let dry for about 45 min-1 hour. Remove Window and light masks.
7. Add small details such as painting the exaust, market lights, tinting the windows Etc. Next add decals as you wish.
Theres how I did it step by step. Its basically alot like painting 1/10 RC Bodies except you paint those from the inside. Any more questions just let me know!
:p

Need4Speed210

Ops.
It has a BitRacer rear axe !
Who said don't use Bit racer axe ?
The 3.x grear is cool, with a 2.2 motor run fast and thery smooth !
The car resistance over speed is so low that allow a good speed modulation.

hey, do u guyz know whats the difference between enamel and acrylic paint? and which 1 is beter 4 bits.
datamonster
10-14-2002, 09:12 PM
enamel paint is oil based whereas acrylic paint is water soluble. I dont really know the difference between them in terms of how they are on a car,
Need4Speed210
10-14-2002, 10:07 PM
I think acrylics are a bit thinner, whereas enamels are thicker. Thats about the only on car difference I can think of.... :)

If you want to do a race theme try this one out... I've actually got the paint color mixed, acrylic. Sprayed it once already, came out like crap, it's been about a year since I used the airbrush. Hopefully the next one will be better. :D
