What is your favorite track material and what kind of tire set up works best for you on it? I'm THinking about making some tracks.
Thanks for your opinions.

I've played around on a vinyl mat available at some gaming stores. It gives the cars great traction and handling. Adding jumps is too easy as well. All you have to do is put a wrinkle in the mat and voila... instant jump.

The next best thing I've raced on was a track on a billiards table. This was great because of how huge the thing was. Still great handling but a bit more roll resistance and no easy jumps.

My kitchen floor sux because it is just too slippery. I've tried different tyre combinations with no great success.

I've been using this thick cardboard foam core stuff that the softs really stick to nicely, very easy to race on because you get awesome traction, an for the walls, you can actually embed balsa wood sides to it. woodglue works really well on it too:D

i think a really good material would be the underside of a mousepad. or atleast the mousepad that i have. its brandless, but the underside has no grooves or anything. its a solid slab of some sort of dence foam. its black and pretty solid, yet couchy. it also has reasonable grip.

i use sheets of paper, they work really well the only problem is too much traction it turns really sharp.:p

Earlier I recommended playing on a pool table because of the great performance I was getting.

Today I've changed my mind.

I spent way to long cleaning green fuzz out of the motor area and wheels.

As for the mouse pads, I think you'd have just a bit too much traction.
Cardboard does work well and is easy to get.
The vinyl is still my fave though. The ease of making good jumps was worth it alone and the fact that the whole thing rolls up into a nice tube makes it great for storage.

I don't have tons of experience with surfaces, but my favorite right now is the brown wrapping paper that comes on a ream and you can simply tear off how much you need.

The stuff can be rolled up and stored easily after use, and it has good traction without being too grippy or too slippery. I use medium tires up front, and softs in the back. I may go up one more step to hard in the front and medium in the back, but I haven't tried it yet.

I am currently building my very first track. It is made with three sections of plywood, but I havn't figured out a good way to join them yet. I'm going to price piano hinges when I get a chance. Anyway, I have covered one entire surface with the brown wrapping paper, using the spray on adhesive.

I like glass, it gives the cars plenty of traction but it doesn't come in black like vinyl does, so vinyl
