View Full Version : I just added a 9V battery, IT IS AMAZING! It flung the tires off!

I just added in a 9V battery to my Supra Xmod! The change is so great that when I pull the throttle and the car is off the ground, it flings the rear tires off, no joke! I mounted the battery in place of a rear bumper. The car makes a weird noise, like it is aligning itself, but it isn't. The noise continues unless you tap the "gas" then it stops and will start back a little bit later. I know I'm straining the car, but hey IT FLIES! I have soft springs, soft treaed tires, stage 2 road race motor, 1.5 tie bar (I think), light kit, and mild body kit and so far it's all working pretty seemlessly, except that noise and no rear bumper (the big duracell logo is there instead, hehe). This is an amazing change, I know others have done it, but seeing the tire get thrown off was too much! I had to share this with yall!

Ok, give me a bit and they'll be here! I may get a video up too, we'll see. First of all, I'll tell you I used one of those loose 9V harness things, I got it out of an automatic card shuffler. I just spliced it into the existing battery system and ounted it in place of the rear bumper with some electrical tape. It doesn't look as shabby as it sounds and the weight is at least at the rear wheels. Let me say again, the thing hauls!

is it better then having 1 AA or 2 AAA. I mean like way better. Cant wait for the vids

One of my friends just added a single AAA and I'll race him tomorrow to see, but I can tell you that it is at least 3 times faster than it was before I added the 9V! This thing is amazing! It gets hot pretty fast, but the runs are so quick there's no reason to overheat it anyway, :-)

can you post some pictures?
if you need to host a video i can do it for you.:)

ummm... there are others who swear by the fact that 9V will fry your ESC... i get this from another forum... because of this i was toying with the idea of using a rechargable 9V battery, but i refuse to attempt it before radioshack starts selling replacement ESCs... which according to CJ's FAQ looks to be very near.

my question is, what do you notice heating up? your battery, motor, or electronics? also... is there a temp change b4 you hit the throttle? meaning, just for having the batt in?

very nice setup you got there....
but damn its automatic:(

Lol...I know, It sucks but at the time it was a good price with good miles. I bet you run an insane quarter. My last run was a 12.89. You must be easily in low 12's with a AWD setup

thats me on the right
that was with my rims on
my best was 11.44:)
thats freaking fast!
as you noticed my car is kind of sleeper style:p

What pick up, your 60 foot is amazing. Thats were im lagging, my 60 foot in 2.6, Its mostly due to turbo lag. In need to get the intake and exhaust HKS camshafts for the engine. that should free up about 50 hp just in the motor and compensate for the lag

4G63T
11-18-2003, 03:42 PM
yeah it should, but the hp gain will be about 35-50

cmuench
11-18-2003, 03:56 PM
yeah, still if I can even get 35 RWHP it will help, maybe even some better tires. we'll see after winter.

I'll have the pics and vids up soon, the batteries just died and I need to put some new ones in that mug :-). The whole underbody gets warm, there is no major heat coming out, but it does all warm up. Like I said, the batteries died, but it could be something else. I hope its just the batteries that died! Anyway, I can host my own vids, I'm a webdesigner, but thanks anyway. And as for yalls Supra and Talon, they're sweet. I hope I can get a FMIC soon, how is the 4-Row, as if it was anything but amazing. I want to get new cams, camshafts, FMIC, BOV, Boost Controller, Fuel Controller, Nitrous sprayer with purge, and more, but that would all be at least 6 months from now. My new, real VEILSIDE, hehe, kit and Volk TE37's along with my HKS Carbon-Ti Off Road System are holding me off for a while though. I'm in no desperate need of any other parts now except a simple O2 Sensor, :-). BTW, all that is why I could care less if the 9V fries my XMOD, I can just go get in the real thing if I want, hehe.

Nice RX7, its about the same color as my Supra! I didn't know that there were RX7's that color! http://www.rubinbusinesscenter.com/supraforums.jpg

Also, in response to an eralier post, I forgot to mention that Automatic Transmissions hold boost pressure better than a manual transmission would allow for. That is my only defense of auto's, but it's true!

The 4 row FMIC helps out alot. I noticed more power and I can carry it over when the t-78 gets installed. Another thing is longevity goes way up since its colder air. If your going to go with a BOV get the HKS SBOV w/Air output return for your intake. The sound alone is worth the price and again your helping your turbos release that excess pressure. Before my tranny upgrade I noticed that when my tranny down-shifted it kicked due to the pressure, after the BOV its was smoother. Oh i also forgot to mention that rx-7 is bad $ss. love the way you flushed mounted your controllers in the front

hey were in a rc forum get back on topic people he added a nine volt battery to his xmod disscuss that :p . anyway do you have your 4 aaa's in still? and how long have you run it for? also does the battery heat up just being connected?

I have compiled a video preview for you tonight. I will tape a race tomorrow if all goes as planned against a 5 cell stage 2 road race Supra. Anyway, I'll get pics of the actual chassis and all later, enjoy for now. Make sure and turn up the volume, you can actually hear it idling! Peace.

the car looks pretty funny like that:)

sagelwwa
11-18-2003, 11:25 PM
Yeah, haha, it looks like plain junk, but you know those huge rear bumper drag spoilers? Maybe I could faricate one of those to cover the battery up with, hahaha. I don't know, but at least it is working! I'm just waiting for this thing to burn up, haha.

sagelwwa
11-18-2003, 11:26 PM
The batteries die very quickly using the car like this! When they die, they die too, the car just stops! But still, no probs and two pretty long runs and a bunch of little ones and now I'm on my second set of batteries.

4G63T
11-19-2003, 07:14 AM
what kind of batteries do you use?
radioshack ones?

cmuench
11-19-2003, 08:04 AM
looks pretty fast. I can not wait till some of my friends start doing real mods to there cars. right now im killing them with ease. When you hooked up your 9V and lights did you experience any problems?

TypeZer0
11-19-2003, 08:59 AM
you know what you could try? get rid of teh two stock AAA battery holders and wire up two 9V batteries in parallel on both sides. should give you twice the runtime and possibly, but not definately, give you more current output from the two batteries combined which may make it even faster

cmuench
11-19-2003, 09:06 AM
The problem is that if you put two in parellel you would have an incredible 18V! Little too much, you would have to put resistors inline in order to accomplish something like that

4G63T
11-19-2003, 02:35 PM
how much are the resistors?

cmuench
11-19-2003, 02:37 PM
There dirt cheap

BoostCrzy
11-19-2003, 03:30 PM
actually if the 2 batteries are in parallel the voltage stays the same....the current is doubled......if they are wired in series, then the voltage is doubled.....

cmuench
11-19-2003, 03:32 PM
May bad, I jumped the gun and did not even see that he said parellel

I didn't get a chance to race today, but I will ASAP so I can get the video to yall! I use any batteries, but right now I have radioshacks in there. The 2 9V is a good thought, but it is already at the edge of its limit with one it seems like. I would only add a 9V if your XMOD is somewhat disposable to you or if you really need to win a race, hehe. By the way, can anyone get the correct guage wire and correct size and brightness led's to make an underbody kit with? I have looked everywhere and no luck. i tried 22 guage wire and 5mm LED's but they were too big and very dim.
