after wasting my cash on a lame x mod and discovering it has a loooong way to go to become half of what a mini z is...I decided to rip it apart and use the only part that was worth a crap on my miniz...the body. the supra body fits my mini z just fine after extending the wheelbase, cutting out the old rear mount and adding the side mounts that mini z's use...I will get some better wheels for it and it is being repainted right now thats why it's stripped in these pics...here's a pic or two.

Wow that is coming along great. How come you weren't satifised with your XMOD?

mostly the electronics.I mean you DO get what you pay for but come on...radio shack had better get used to the things getting returned thats for sure. the steering didn't have a very big radius...it killed the batteries twice as fast as the mini z...wasn't fast (at least not compared to my mini z) I really just liked the fact that the body kits were interchangable...but hell, they are on my mini z now...hehe...it's the best of both worlds I think. hell radio shack couldn't even provide SEALED bearings...they don't have to be THAT cheap. they charged $20 for them too. they know people are going to be driving these things outside...and those unsealed bearings wont last very long at all. I will stick with my mini z. I drive the x mod, then drive my mini z...and I can FEEL the difference in quality just by driving them. like I said tho, you get what you pay for right. in this case it isn't very much. I would have gladly payed $100 for the xmod if they had used better quality components and they still could have sold them for less than the mini z. they will have to make a few improvements if they want to step into the ring with kyosho's mini z.

I live near the CP Mini Raceway + Hobby in Clifton Park(from the Mini-Z Cup) and there is a Radio Shack in the mall nearby. So, I went to Radio Shack to get some LEDs and things for my Zip Zap. This guy there was playing with an X-Mod and had to help a customer, so he gave the thing to me. IT SUCKED! On high gear, the thing was half as fast as a Mini-Z. Plus, the radio was wicked uncomfortable. I couldn't even push the trigger all the way into reverse without moving my hand. It was so cheesy. SWEET BODY!:)

well she's painted! lol...after it has dried real good I will tape it up and paint the windows black...then rub it out with some rubbing compound and it will really shine! then I will paint all the details ( lights, intake holes, tail lights and stuff) by hand with a brush and re install the light lenses... oh, this is graphite metallic paint.

Are you going to make the windows clear? What about black?

you cant make the windows clear..they are part of the body so black is really my only option...should still look good

Can you show some pics of the body mods that you used to mount the shell on your Z?

here ya go...very simple...I got the side mounts from an old mini z body...you can also make them out of plastic sheet available at most hobby shops...

That looks really awesome! WOOT! lol:D  Now get one of those GPM turbo exhausts for the Z, or one out of a model kit.

Stoppit!! You're making me want to bust in the screen and grab the car. There is only one way to describe that Supra: SWEET.
What rims are those? (before and after)
How well do Xmods wheels fit the Z? and what mods do you need to make to the wheels?

and sorry but the wheels won't fit the x mod...too bad cause they are only $10 and look dam good. I picked these over a set of aluminum 5 spokes because they looked waay better...they even have a wider lip on the rear than on the front ones...anyone wanna challenge my mini z? muhahahahaaaaa

sealed bearing are available from Boca Bearings. I didn't bother getting some since I only race indoors. I've run both the mini-z and my x-mod. I like the x-mod better. I installed the 4wd kit and the yellow step ii upgrade motor. It runs better than my mini-x. I would like a different body for it though. BAE

that is a very impressive conversion:D lets please not have this great thread get bogged down in xmod or miniz trashing. they both are great cars for their price range and leave it at that.
i hope to see more mini-z owners do these types of conversions as the body kits for the xmod bodies are one of their strengths.

I do have to say that that is one sweet conversion.
Now if RS can sell the bodys seprately it may be worth it to those of us who already have the mini-z's. Only if RS would do a mustang......
One other thing. kingcobra, what did you use to strip the paint with?

I used regular dot 3 brake fluid...let it soak and start brushing the paint off with an old toothbrush... leave it in there just long enough to get all the paint off... then take it out and wash it a few times with dish detergent to get it all off...then prime and paint. thats all...and thanks for the compliments...
