I noticed that there are skinny tires on the Mini Z... I was wondering if I were to put skinny tires on the front of the X-Mod if I could get a tighter turning radius on it.. somewhere along the lines of the Mini-Z.

probably not because the xmod has awd and it needs all the traction you can get in the front

awd is an option.... but I don't need to run with it... actually sometimes I prefer 2wd... but has anyone tried using skinny tires up front to see if the turning radius decreases significantly?

skinnier tires = less contact patch = less traction and skinny tires in front increases understeer, making teh steering radius even larger. i suggest you setup the car for oversteer, make the rear suspension stiffer than the front, grippier tires up front and less grippy tires in the rear.

if you drive fast you dont want understeer. the back end loses grip faster making you spin out. the less grip in the front should be an advantage

you mean you DO want understeer right? cuz understeer means your car "pushes" when turning and less grip causes the understeer.
i like to do a lot of curvy driving so i like having a lot of oversteer to swing my car around corners, helps make up for the large steering radius

i ment i wouldnt want over steer as much. but it depents what your doing. if you are running a slow motor and you can throw the end around turns with out spinning out its good. but if your just driving around ging fast your ging to find your self spinning out with oversteer. so it depends what your doing more than any thing else

I get your point dude.. with the less traction idea... how did Kyosho overcome that with the Mini-Z? everyone else is confusing the crap outta me.
the front wheels on the Mini Z turn more than the Xmod ( ie wider range ofsteering) , and the weight of the rear mounted motor kinda helps swing the car round

so why are the tires skinny up front on the Mini-Z? to counter the oversteering effect of the rear mounted motor (due to the larger contact patch area of the rear tires)? I like the mid mounted motor idea on the X-Mod... it's like the Associated TC3.

Well, having a tail happy car isn't all that bad, some of the fastest cars made in real life were very tail heavy....the 80''s porsche 911 turbo's come to mind as a very outstanding example. Rear-engine rear wheel drive, and gobs of power at that. Those cars were known for their difficulty to run through corners, but their overall performance was so good that they more than made up for it.
If you want massive understeer buty still be able to let the back end loose, make the car front wheel drive and put skinnies in the rear. It will be like pulling a throttle down drift on a real FWD car, just let off the throttle and the car starts to oversteer, put it back on and it moves towards understeer again. but you need to set your weight ratio properly to pull it off.
