Well, it's nothing special. I was going to paint it all pure white, cuz I think bodykitted Civics in white look really good, but after seeing the first few coats, I'm not too sure about this one. I may scrap it and start over.

When you take paint off what do you use to wipe it off? I use goo-gone. Do you use things like oven-bake cleaner?

To be honest, I have never removed paint from one of my paint jobs. I have used that Castrol Super Degreaser to remove paint from Zips. I'm not removing this one, just gonna keep going and see if I can salvage it.

11-07-2003, 06:55 PM
I used a really light coat of pearl purple directly over the black.I sanded the gloss off. (i can still see the liscence plate and logos. The paint's really for lexan bodies. Then I went over it with clear gloss pearl. I was kinda iffy about the color at first but when I drove it and saw the colors changing from turn to turn I loved it after that. Hopefully i can do a direct fullfilment on a body kit sometime soon.

Thanc Angelo.

did u um..... lower it in the front

an6e1o82
11-08-2003, 03:28 AM
i lowered the front a little bit. In the pic i just had it slammed as far as it can go. I made a custom front mount to fit the supra and the civic b/c my other chassis broke. the chassis the civic is on is my old supra chassis. it's all stripped of parts and its basically wheels and thats about it. When i put the civic on the chassis that works its a little higher.

If you Guys want a way to remove Paint from Plastic, use Oven cleaner (easy -off). It doesnt work on 100% of the paints out there but when it does work it works great. Only a little bit of scrubbing to get it all out of the crevaces. This works well and safely on Plastic model bodies and parts, The Xmod bodies seem to be made out of the same kind of plastic so..... But if you do use Oven Cleaner, wear Vynil gloves 'cause it will eat your skin.

How'd you paint the rims?

Bad Company
11-13-2003, 10:55 PM
I didn't do much to this one, it is my next 6 cell car I will actually take outside and run around in. I used mostly the wild body kit, but I painted in some of the silver vents...had too much of a smiley face as someone else put it. Basically, it looks like it just has the intercooler in the front now. I also painted the wheels chrome.

Nice job. You planning on painting it??? And where do you buy chrome paint.

Bad Company
11-14-2003, 06:17 AM
No, I 'm not going to paint anything else on this one, it is going to be run outside a lot. The chrome paint came from Wal Mart....in the house paint section. It is made by Krylon, called original chrome. Whatever you do, don't apply clear to it afterwards, it will actually make the paint dull and grey looking.

Chad Rump

BC, you should make dual exhaust for your civic. Especially wit that rear bumper, since there are 2 openings

Bad Company
11-16-2003, 10:10 PM
Here is my newly lowered Civic...

an6e1o82
11-16-2003, 10:15 PM
Doesn't the front rub on the wheel well when it turns? I lowered mine and it rubs so bad it stops the wheel. I had no choice but to raise it. Its still lower than stock but its still pretty high.

Oh yeah, did you dremel the back mount so it sat lower? or did you do somehting else?

Bad Company
11-16-2003, 10:22 PM
I used the Skyline front tab and removed some of the support that the rear tab mounts to. The only time it rubs in the front is when I take a hard, fast turn and lean on the suspension. I have soft springs now, I'm going to try the hard and see how it does.

You can always dremel out the front fender enough, just like we do with the Zips.

an6e1o82
11-16-2003, 10:27 PM
I'll try it out and see what happens.. I might have to make a custom front mount. The dremeling thing scares me. It might thin out the too much but i'll try it anyway.. I'm just woried about it going all the way through.

Thanx Angelo.

Bad Company
11-16-2003, 10:38 PM
You shouldn't have to worry about going too far. There is plenty of plastic above the front fenders, all you would do is shave away a little at the top to clear for the tires.

many an age ago, i was taught a good tip on evenly sanding out the wheel wells in a ZZ, and i think they still stand for XMs. Take a shishkabob stick (ya know those wooden barbecue poker things) or something similar, and wrap a piece of sandpaper around the stick, and adhere it with tape or something. then, place the stick against the wheel wells, and begin sanding. this way, if you apply your pressure evenly enough, anything you do to one side will happen to the other because the other side is being rubbed w/ sandpaper also.

Where are the blue Civics? Doesn't anybody have one besides BC? I saw them here, locally, and I can say, the color is very nice. It is a metallic blue. Shame that they picked the ugliest parts for the Civic bodykits though. Especially the hood. A nice flat CF hood like the RSX has would have been much nicer than the Camaro SS wannabe that they included...

I think im going to buy another body and do this old one orange. I had a crazy idea of molding an RSX kit onto the civic but it wont reach and I dont feel like bustin' out the bondo. Im going to head down to the hobby shop right now and see what they have in the way of tamiya paint and motors. Also doin the spin brush motor today.

as compared to that cat
http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/7/web/343000-343999/343651_43.jpg

It is fully kitted w/ spoiler now, blue stage2, stiff suspension in the rear soft in front w/ a 4.5degree tierod (handles like a demon). Also I have the tire upgrade and wheel upgrade. Hopefully I can pick up the lights today, all 4 RS i went to were out. Looks lke a full plate for me today Xmod wise.

Does anybody know how to remove the headlights/tailights w/ out breaking them!?

Use a Dremel or X-acto knife to scrape away the melted tabs on the inside of the body, then push them out from the inside.

My civic is being done in Competition Orange as we speak. I am using Testor's rattle cans. I also purchased a can of clear coat that will go on after I put on some more coats. Bad thing is that the paint is a little runny. The first coat ran some but as soon as it dried it made the other coats stick nicely. The only thing that I have had problems with is that the paint pools on the bottom of the car...and i tried to smooth it out with my finger..stupid me. The paint was semi-dry and was like a paste, so I tried to apply the puttylike substance evenly. It is even in most parts except in 2 places where all the paint got rubbed off. I threw another coat on those places and they are the only troubled areas. I need more paint now. I am probably going to finish with around 6 coats of paints. Then clear coat. I am also doing my rims white which seems to have a much thicker consistency for some reason. They are coming along really nicely. The body kit that is going with the body is coming along pretty good too, except there is a few pooling problems with the mouth. But anyways more paint will solve all my problems.

There's a link to a resizer in the thread about the Eclipse you did - if you have Windows XP, you can use the Powertoy (http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/install/2/wxp/en-us/imageresizerpowertoysetup.exe).

Might want to back up a bit, that's..uh, blurry.
But I'm sure it looks nice in full focus, too.

God i'm so pissed. I finished the civic I was doing orange and it came out crappy. Right now the body and kit and everything are sitting in a bucket of paint thinner...and my hands are full of paint and my knuckles sting because they were chapped and the thinner penetrated. I used Testor "Model Master" rattle cans, enamel stuff.
WARNING: DO NOT USE THIS STUFF WITHOUT A PRIMER COAT, IN FACT DON'T USE IT AT ALL TO PAINT YOUR XMOD
This **** ran and pooled..it was awful. A waste of money for 2 cans..the clear coat was good of this type though. The damn paint wouldn't stick to the body, I should of quit after I put the first coat on and saw that it was crap. I just kept on adding coats, telling myself it would come out OK. GAAAH..the reason I bought it was because there were no tamiya rattle cans..only bottles and other Testors stuff. The paint was coming off pretty quickly in thinner so the body is salvagable and I will repaint it, definetely using something different.

BC where do you find your tamiya rattles?

And can someone fill me in on the Krylon stuff.

I think it takes everyone one good screwup to get things right. I picked up some burgundy krylon fusion which is designed for plastics and advertised that you need neither primer nor sanding. It looks good, I did a test spray and accidentally got some on my hands but this stuff sticks. I am going to do a test to see how it reacts w/ the clear coat I got tonite then paint the car tomorrow.

Painting is finished, looks decent. Krylon was a tad drippy but the good thing is that with latex gloves you can spread it to the places that it doesn't cling to. Pretty good stuff, we'll see how the unmasking goes.
WARNING: If you use it be careful, the stuff kind of sputters. Use from far distance and coat evenly just like all other sprays.

I have not sanded or primed any of my cars, and they look good enough to be mistaken for a factory finish. I really don't think it is necessary, and I don't believe that BC does it either...

97PrizmLsi
01-07-2004, 04:54 PM
I should of primed or sanded my civic. The paint kind of ran. I think it is necessary unless you are using tamiya or other stuff that is made for RC bodies...and also costs 5$ for a 100ML can which is nothing.

A nice flat CF hood like the RSX has would have been much nicer than the Camaro SS wannabe that they included...

I had a blue civic, but i painted it. I have another body coming and I have black paint for a CF hood (to paint the stock one). Bad thing is that it will be here in 2-5 weeks depending on the speed (or lack of it) RS has. The thing is that the body kit isn't extremely wild compared to the supra or skyline...The plus of that is that it doesn't scrape...Still I would like one with some more flare.

(but it wouldn't keep shape, wheels rub)
in process of making one outta coper and/or alluminum
as for the wing. it comes with STI Impreza (mini z)
btw miniz's skyline is same base as xmod(long)

It was also my first attempt. I guess I got lucky. The key here is patience, 2 light coats of primer and 2 light coats of color coat. LET EACH COAT DRY COMPLETELY BEFORE THE NEXT COAT. hope fully this helps. Also, dont get the can too close to the car or it will run and pool. Especially if there isnt a primer base.
Just my 2 cents worth. Cant wait to see it when its done.

I'm glad yours came out so good. It looks great. You definetely have to be patient with that paint, and primer as well. I did it without primer, because everyone on the forums seemed to be saying that primer is unnecessary so I gave it a whirl. At the hobby shop they didn't have any testor's primer so I decided to roll without it. I redid my civic after I sanded it in Krylon and it came out better. Much easier to work with as well.

is that the one you used with Krylon Fusion? is that really the result!?

97PrizmLsi
02-01-2004, 11:39 PM
Yep, it's Krylon fusion burgundy done by myself. I initially wanted to keep the body as a show body because it looked pretty good and I ordered a new stock body, but I didn't want to not drive my Xmod for the time it took for the stock body to get here. The body has taken some damage so it doesn't look as great. I am thinking of sanding and redoing it (or selling/trading it). I got rid of the rims though, I have others that I can paint white to go with the repainted body (if i ever decide to redo it). I currently have a supra body that i got used from RS that I use and the burgundy body sits there. I haven't been as into Xmod body customization as I was, because I have recently acquired 3 ZZ SEs. Whenever the new Xmods come out I am definetely going to get back in.

I used about 8 to 10 thin coats of a Lacquer Base Prismatic Paint. Made By Alclad II the paint actually shifts from a green to blue in the sun. I could really only get the green side to come thru in the photos. I purchased the paint at a local hobby store and used an airbrush to aply it. I also used about 15 or 20 thin coats of a clear coat Lacquer to give it a mirror like finish. Not a very good picture but I turned the flash off to capture the blue side.
