Well after a crappy first paintjob I decided to sand her down and try again before I dipped her into the acid bath. It worked:D
I need to do some of the detals yet so this is the preview...

Wow sessiz that skyline is amazing. How did you keep the windows and headlights from getting painted? Did you mask them off? What brand of paint did you use?

Thanks for the compliments gentlemen.
The paint is plain old metalic green from pactra.
The skyline emblem in the front is stock, I just masked over her :p

So I guess we can add Pactra to the list of reccomended paints for Xmods? Did you use a clear coat?
sessiz10
10-27-2003, 11:57 PM
My first go with the pactra was pretty bad. I attribute this to..
1. Not using a primer at all.
2. Not sanding enough of the factory finish off first.
3. Plain old lazyness :p
I use the krylon crystal clear acyrilic spray for my clearcoats. Cheap and very effective. (Not recomended for enamel paints though)
I wonder how many laps this paintjob will withstand?;)

Well after major thought I've decided to wait until I get the skyline bodykits to add any graphics. I think it would look corny on what is basically a street legal lookin body. I did finish up the minor details (I forgot the side views :p )
What do you gentlemen think about putting a lil vanity plate in the back?

Here's a pic of the first paintjob. I didn't bother on doing any touch up work on it. The pic is unusally flatering. It looked real nasty in hand. This is ofcourse the oposite of the metalic green where the pic does it no justice.

They're actually the same body. The red was my first paint job the green is the second.
I keep the lights and emblem and anything else I want left untouched by masking them with tape. I have 3 rolls of that blue trim tape left over from when I was painting the house and find that it's excellent. No bleeding what so ever. You could use plain ole masking tape but you gotta make sure you've got the edges pressed firmly before you start painting or else you risk a bleed or two.;)

Are you gonna put decals and put a body kit on them?
If so,would you be interested in being put on my site "The Show" section?

That red looked pretty nice too, but if you are like me, nothing less than perfection will do, and if you saw something wrong with it, then you did what you had to do. In the end, it turned out spectacular. I just picked up my graphics today from the decal shop, but I'm a little hesitant about sticking anything on my paint job just yet. I did throw some on my outside bash 'em up car just for kicks.

Hmmmmm, decal shop you say?
Did you go to a vinyl graphics place?
Thanks for the compliment on the red BC but like I said the pic of it was more like a playboy shot. The imperfections were pretty blatant.:(
Heh, I'm still un happy with the metalic green to tell the truth. I just wanna wait until I get the body kits so that I can repaint it all together.
Do tell about these decals you speak of.:D

Well, I just had them run me off a couple to test out at first, and then I will go back for more designs and colors. They found out the hard way that the designs I picked out were diffecult to "pick" because of the size, so it will cost me a little more next time, but they did a good job anyways.
Here are some of the "test" decals I picked up today. The other ones are already on my Skyline which I will show later....

These silver "checkers" are the ones I'm considering putting on my gunmetal Skyline...
sessiz10
10-29-2003, 09:01 PM
 Those checkers would look hot on that gunmetal. What did they charge you for them? I was thinking of hitting up the vinyl shops around here to see what they could do for me. Only thing keeping me away was the price (or what I assume the price would be).:p
Bad Company
10-29-2003, 09:07 PM
Well, they quoted me $10 for as many as I could fit on a 12"x12" sheet, which was about 3 of each design + the flames that are on my yellow Skyline. After they found out how hard it is to pick away the unused vinyl around the designs (ecspecially the checker and small flames:D ), they said it would be a little more next time. I only picked up half of them today, they were still working on the other half.
Next time, I'm gonna get a couple new designs and mix up the colors.

That's not bad at all. I'll have to go check the places around here. Good thing tomorrows my day off and payday.;)

I got the body kit painted but unfortunatly it didn't come out matching the body. I guess I will be striping this car and redoing it. Not until after I give her a nice rash though :p

I can't believe there is that much of a difference. Did you use the same can? Where the body kit parts lighter to start with?
I was going to paint my Civic now, and then paint the body kits when I got them, but this has got me thinking I should wait and do it all at the same time.
sessiz10
10-31-2003, 10:32 PM
Yeah always do the body and kits together to get stuff nice and even through out. There's 2 things going on here with money. First I gotta say that the difference is there but is more noticable in that pic. I sprayed the green over the red on the body. I sprayed the green over the yellow on the kits. This is where the problem lays. I'm not worried though. I know I'll be painting this body often, as anyone who's seen my "rash" pics knows.:p

:D YEah I know,lol.
I'm not too hot on deacls and whatnot, but, unfortunatly I had some company show up while stripping. Long story short I had some melting of the plastic and I didn't wanna spend all week sanding :p So a two toned decaled track car it had to become.
No BC I didn't paint over, wish I had though.

I left the ELO (easy lift off) decal/paint remover on there too long (over 12hrs too long). So when I started brushing the paint off some of the spots that soaked in too much start to stretch (best way to put it). Oh well.:p
