It seems like most people dont think too highly of the zipzaps....well I am not one of them, in fact, I think they are great.....
1. The range on my ZZ is 20+ feet, the range on my bit is about 4 to 5ft.
2. They are much more stable and easy to control.
3. The bodies look much better becuase of detail, scale, and quality, and the rim feature is nice.
4. Inexpensive
The only drawback is that the bodies are very heavy which is why they are a little slower, I am gonna mod my body to make it lighter, then the ZZ's will be a bit killer.
Dont get me wrong, I still love bits, but it seems like my ZZ outperforms the bit in almost every category.
(by the way, I put a 32" telescoping atenna on the ZZ controller, and replaced the car atenna wire with one from qfm.com's shop, the range and consistency is great!!)

Hi All,
I am new to the whole microRC thing but I have to say the ZZ has been alot of fun so far. I still one plan on buying a bit/microsizer for comparsion and extra freq. :D I am happy with the zz thus far. I do plan on doing the longer battery mods right away.
On a sad note my local RC shop is selling the Microsizers for $40. Damn you can get 2 zz's for that. Aren;t they supposed to be $30? Guess I will just try and buy a tomy off of ebay, maybe even get a clone as well.

Some of the neg comments are made but people that are mainly 1/10 scale runners. And when the word "Radio Shack" appears they think "JUNK" well this is small minded people. HHEHE and the same people at are HPI micro rs4 followers........
4-5 feet on a bit???!! u gotta be kidding..do some mods to it yo..
the ONLY reason i bought my ZZ is for the rims and gears...thats really all...i put those on my BIt :D
right now my ZZ is sitting on the floor, i havent touched it since an hour after i got it a couple days ago

The thing that will be intersting is which stands up to abuse better. A Bit or ZZ.
From many thread it sounds like Bits take more stress than all of the OEM but do break. But as time goes along how will the ZZ survive? A thicker drive body may outlast a Bit.

I have driven my ZZ down wooden stairs several times. I have also had it fall from tables, desks, and shelves onto carpet. It has not suffered any damage... yet.

I WOULD HAVE TO DISAGREE WITH THE COMPARISON OF ZZ BODIES TO BIT'S. I WANTED TO DO THE WHEEL MOD, SO I BOUGHT A ZZ AND I ENDED UP GETTING THE F&F SET AS WELL. WHILE THE BODIES ARE MORE TO SCALE LENGTH WISE, THE HAVE FAR LESS DETAIL AND QUALITY, NOT TO MENTION THEIR THICKNESS, RIDE HEIGHT AND WEIGHT. I REALLY LIKE THE IDEA OF HAVING THE F&F CARS AND AMERICAN MADE CARS BUT THE ZZ'S FEEL LIKE CLUSMY KNOCK OFFS. NOT NEAR THE QUALITY OF THE SAY THE BITS' CELICA OR SKYLINE. I WILL AGREE ON THE BETTER HANDLING AND STABILITY BUT NOT ON QUALITY OF APPEARANCE.
HAS ANYONE USED HO SCALE BODIES YET?

yes i was possed into buying one for my daughter she likes it but i hate the controller i got big fingers so it hard to get smooth control. i got the purple PT cruiser ,27 MHz,16,000 RPM motor, 12:1 gearing ,factory tires it looks ok but i think Bits look better but oh well i just got to get a bit to smoke the Evil ZZ then there will be peace in my little world

i like bit cahr-gs better because the bodies have more detail, their faster, and their original but for the price zzs arent bad

i had a conversation with the manager at my local rs who explained to me that initially, each store was sent a rather small distribution of zz's (in his case only twelve-actual cars, which i bought the second to last one) with the intention of gauging individual store sales to determine further distribution numbers. i don't know how useful this info is, just thought i would pass it on.

Does that mean Spongebob is on the way? I saw a picture of it. Custom hubcaps and Spongebob behind the wheel of a boat.

I'll have to disagree on the quality issue but I only have a bit and 3 ZZ bodies to compare. I have a RX-7 bit and a Mustang, PT cruiser, and RX-7 ZZs, the quality on the ZZs can't be compared, I don't know If I got a crappy body on my bit, but the paint is not even, and you can see the edges. My friends bits look much better. I do like the RX-7 shape of the Bit better than the ZZ. There's something wrong with the front end of the ZZ RX-7 that doesn't seem right. But the other 2 cars look realistic and have great detail.
All the bits I have seen lack a rear window, What's with that hole backthere.
One of the major drawbacks that I see on the BIts is their controller. the buttons are big but not as smooth, they have this clicking feel...THE ANTENA! is plain CHEAP! The ZZ controllers are easily modifiable and have the handy screwdriver ;) And you can argue either way on the locking charging pod.
The hub caps feature is nice on the ZZ's but I do like the way the rubber tires sit on the Bits rims. seems more even...
SO overall I think they both have their good features and the bad, but the crappy controller and the extra money of the bits makes the ZZs the clear winner to me.
just my two cents!

ZZ are cool and are great when you put a Bit or MS board in them other wise they are slow and have no power!!!!!
As far as detail well I like my Bit Char-G I have a MS Celica and it is not even comparable to my Bit bodies! Then again I have the GTR set and Fairlady Z and the NSX and Supra bodies!

ZZ can't touch those bodies!!!
i have the PT crusier, Blue Civic, Maroon SVT, Silver Porsche and FF kit the Eclipse is nice and the Civc looks good PT not bad but nothing compared to the Bit cars I got.
But this all my opinion so what does it matter LOL.

Ok first of all I find the range arguement weak. I mean how long does it take to remove a capacitors and get more then 20 feet. In addition to that there are multiple zz's (27mhz) that can never get more then 2 to 5 feet due to manufacturing error.
As for the bodies the Bit Char G is vastly more realistic. The splits in the body panels are more distinct, the head and tail lights lack the toy look, and the paint seems more like paint on metal.
Now on to the handling and stability. Naturally a slower car turns easier. Grip in turning is porportional to speed of the car. Slow car will always turn better because physics makes it easier.
Now as for durablility, my bit took a 5 foot nose dive on to asphalt. There is a slight scratch on the air dam. Nothing more.

:rolleyes:I have 3 zips, all 4 F&F bodies the cobra and crusier.
I don't have a bit yet(45mhz supra in the mail) but I have tested a couple of microsizers and I must say that I wasn't all that impressed. I keep hearing the vast speed difference between the cars stock but I really didn't see it.
I got into these micros because of the portability and have fun modding them as well as racing them. I think all this hype is silly. If you have a bit, microsizer, zip or a clone, just enjoy it and stop whining like little kids "mine is better than yours!!!"
Everybody needs to calm down. If your not happy with speed or range or detail then do something about it.

Yup, I see it that way too. I've played with Microsizers in the local hobby shop and I liked the quality of the ZZs more. The scrunched proportions of the sizer puts me off right away. The car I played with had been beat up a little, but holding it in my hands and looking at it closely just left me liking the ZZs more. I do like the clear lenses and some of the paint jobs, but the shape is too toy like. The wheels are just to close together. I hate the stock rims as they again have a solid chrome toy look to them. The ZZ tires are also much more realistic with the tread patterns offered and everyone admits that the handling is sweet. The only real issue seems to be speed. I must say that a ZZ with the red gears and the NOS motor is too fast to road race on a good challenging track (mine is 35ft long in all). A lighter body seems all that is needed to add a little more juice. Also, it's nice that the body cavity can actually hold up to three batteries if insane speed is your bag. Drag racing doesn't really interest me right now, so I don't understand this gotta be the fastest screamer out there retoric. Just give me a nice complex track and someone to race beside. I do plan to get true bits in the future just so I can race more cars at once. But, the Petit Marus are looking pretty good. Especially when the new bodies come out.

I agree with sessiz10. If you like what you have, don't slam other peoples cars, that's like Ford vs. Chevy, it's just preference, there's no real winner. Grow up guys.
Azimov
11-19-2002, 09:39 PM
No, no, not slamming anyones preference. I plan to have a variety of these things. I was just stating my own preference and why. I don't really see that as a slam to anyone in particular.
arch2b
11-19-2002, 09:40 PM
i don't think anyone is slaming others cars, this started out as a comparison between owners of bits and zips or both. just lots of peoples opinions, nothing more, nothing less. if you take it personaly, well i guess there isn't any thing we can do but say there is no reason to. i find it interesting to read others view of the same thing. it's just like what you said about fords and chevys. just preference. so sit back and enjoy and post if you have an opinion.

I don't even think there can be a comparison. Zips have better bodies IMO. As for speed....Bits(and even their clones) kick our arse. From what I've seen anyways. If you put a bit's PCB in a Zip, you just can't get a better mini. Zips are also an easier size of car to find Misc. bodies for. Like 1:64 slot cars we all used to play with when we were younger. I'd also hate modifying anything smaller then a Zips size. They have my vote, but out-of-the-box, I'd take the Bit for it's speed. Out-of-the-box being the key word.

im so pissed at this damn thing my cousin and i both got one i got the 27 MHz Pt crusier he's got the blue cvic i think 49MHz so i challanged him to a race thinking he would play fair nope he didnt that day he went and got the tune up kit with the red motor i on the other hand have the green motor with the blue gear well we get setup and wham hes gone im chugging along and what makes it worse is that i only get about 3 feet before it starts shuttering that was emberssing that i had to follow my Evil Zip Zap and he stood where he was running circles around me im so hoping my mach 5 bit kick his zz arse ( it will)

Racemonster, that's what makes these things so great. You know you can buy hop-up kits from other cars online and kick his butt next time? You can do some hidden mods as well to help. First you need to do the antenna mod. If you're good with a soldering iron, switch out the PCB board with a bit's or a z-car and if you each have the same motor and gears, he doesn't stand a chance. Heck, you'd probably beat him with the Zip stock motor. Your loss should only motivate you. Once you get into it more, build a track with some incline and he won't even know what hit him.

Well that's why they have rules in racing. You had a car that qualifies for stock car racing while your cousin had a modified...That makes it unfair,
I like to have the cars dead even so it only comes down to the driver.
The second I got my Bit I gave it to my brother and I had my ZZ cruiser, I had to upgrade motors and gears to keep up to compensate for the extra weight etc., but on a drag race both cars were right next to each other. SO we had fun around our homemade track! Before a race you need to set a rule and inspect cars to make sure they are not rigged.

Put another antenna on that 27mghz car. Replace the stock battery with one of the 280mA ones you can get online (you have to buy 16 of them tho, but still quite cheap) and add another battery to your charger in series. I'm not sure a PCB swap is really needed after these tweeks.

Yup, I agree that driver skill is much more fun to compare than raw speed. That's why I like road races. Here's a good example. My son and I were racing on my track last weekend. We both had red gears, but he had a turbo and I had a NOS. I was much faster than him, but kept hitting the barrier due to high speed. He beat me in a 5 lap race by 2 laps. Now that's a race! And, no, he won't let me live it down :D
