4wd kit
3.0 tie rod
bearing upgrade
blue (stiff springs front), yellow (medium springs rear)
hard slick tires front and back
red stage2 motor
batteries shifted far back
gave the rear suspension a little negative camber (i'll explain that later)
and most importantly - FRESH batteries
i can make more drift vids if anyone wants to see some more:D

oh now wonder...try drifting with evrything stock and 4-wheel drive....

you will have a looser rear end if you put the stiff springs in the back and medium the front. softer springs give the wheels more bite. you can even rig up a sway bar for the rear, it will hold a drift better :)

mini-x-mod...lol...it sounds like a miniature xmod or somthing..sweet drift with your mini-x tho..BTW whats the difference between the mini-z and x?
3series takumi
10-22-2003, 09:09 PM
there is a world of difference. simply put a miniz is similar to a xmod. all put together and ready to go. a minix is more of a kit car like the dtm-x4 and sp's. miniz are rear wheel drive, and minix are 4wd. i think minix are more adjustable, camber caster and toe without havin to take it apart.
you cant really see in my pic but i have suspension from the xmod on it as well as tires and wheels and it is powered by all that stuff listed on the bottem

how did you accomplish that mod? is there website that details?
I guess you can put any armature you want in there with any magnets rite? as long as you can change the shaft?
anyway, your cars seemd pretty fast , I love your vids.
I was pretty skeptical about buying an x-mod and mini x but after seeing them run they seem like can go pretty fast. Do you think you can beat an Mr02?
how fast do you believe your cars go?
3series takumi
10-23-2003, 02:41 PM
my mini x will spank a mr-02. i use a shaft mod cause mini-x motors have a shaft that goes all the way thru the motor to reach the front wheels. i explain what i did http://www.tinyrc.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11695 there.
my car is faster than a mini-z because of 5 cells and better electronics. it can out corner a mini-z cause of the independant suspension (upgraded to xmod springs) and the 4wd. one of my cars can do 30mph the tamiya speed checker says. i havent tried the one in the vid yet, i am still workin on it :) i want it to be the best of the best! hit up the minix section and see some of the work we have all done.
i love my x-mod cause it is so easy! anytime i screw up with my minix i still have my xmod to play with. where i have to craft parts and upgrades for the minix, the xmod just lets me buy the parts and few minutes later, its a new car.

thanks for the info though ! I am going to buy both mini x and x mod. I am thinking of selling my micro

Is the x-mod shaft driven?
3series takumi
10-23-2003, 03:06 PM
just a warning. i have done alot of work to my minix. it was not nearly as easy to uprgrade than the xmod or miniz but even stock the xmod will beat a mr-02 only if the set you get comes with 5 or 6 cells. if i were to get another one i would get it from here :) (free advertise) it comes with bearings
i think the only reason i would even touch a miniz is just to have it as a static model cause they are pretty to look at ;p with the exception of my mini-z overland, i love that thing

10-23-2003, 03:23 PM
quick question, that farad capacitor mod you did, could you do it to the xmods too?
3series takumi
10-23-2003, 03:30 PM
yes sir! you dont need one with that high of a capacity or voltage for that matter. but it actually is a good idea to have one cause it will take out voltage spikes and drops. it will actually make you esc and motor run cooler. pn-racing makes a smaller on for mini-z, i am sure that will work on the xmod.
i went with such a large cap cause i wanted killer punch plus i will be putting 2/3a zapped KANs on it, and i wanted a cap that can handle their output
Profoxcg
10-23-2003, 03:32 PM
well, of course if you add more cell (more punch) any car could beat an 4 cell car. I really dont think a stock min x or x-mod can take MY enzo
talk about killing my thread......

-=Sorry for the thread jacking :)=-
So I went out and bought a 4700uF35v capacitor from radioshack. Is that the right one? This was the only big one they had, all the others were like 100uF and smaller.
So how would I wire it up? theres 2 black wires on the right battery and one red one black on the left...

35 volts might be a bit much, mine is only 10volts you dont need to have the high capacity. the one i have is for 1/10 scale cars because i am using a 1/10 scale speed controller. you wire it up in parallel with the batteries NOT IN SERIES. the long leg is positive and the short leg is negative. hope that helps
i am not sure you should be running a 35volt cap on that thing though, i think 10 volts at most. and you dont need that high of a capacity cause it is only suppose to take out spikes...not run the car :)
seth98es
10-23-2003, 10:20 PM
haha I didnt notice it was 35v till I read it. Think it would be bad for it if I ran this cap through? I probably will go back and find something smaller tomorrow...
any of these (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2566682820&category=36336) look good? I couldnt find the voltage on them though, but they are cheap :D
or do u know of any place where I could buy one for cheap? there arent any hobby shops near me :(

duey, can you explain the camber adjustment you made on your xmod?
Profoxcg
10-26-2003, 09:32 PM
camber in the front is what this car really needs!!!
camber in the back, all you need to do it compress the springs a bit by either cutting them or adding spacer (washers)

10-27-2003, 12:06 AM
um my minix is a little different then a miniz. but i just use the hardest slicks i could find (50 degree i think) and i have a punch capacitor to give extra power when i floor it. that cap lets me spin the wheels easier.
that minix has 4 wheel independent like the xmod, but doesnt camber when pushed down.
my set up at the time was
stiff rear spring
soft front spring
rear sway bar (rigged a paper clip hehe)
hard tires front and back
i used hard all around so that nothin had traction for better 4wheel drifts, that cars wheels are spinnin at full speed at all times but it looks like the car is movin slow. as soon as i let off it grips and no more fun
