Just wondering-anyone tried metal nuts yet? Just need to know the size. I noticed Micro RS4 ones fit, so I'll see if they carry those at Hobbytown.

thanks for the offer, but i bought the foam tire kit last nite (man, it was hard getting the tire on to the double sided tape on teh wheel) and it gave me 4 extra

You get 12 extra in the rims kit.;)
I got the foam tires and I don't really like em.

I got the foam tires in hopes of better grip on carpet but I'm getting better results from the sticky treads.

I liked the rims that come with the foam tires. The design is the xmods X.

that's fine and dandy but i got them in hopes of having better grip on carpet. i could care less about the wheels cuz they aren't the greatest (i like symetrical designes like the other wheels, not this big X that only looks correct if u turn it to the right angle) but wut coudl i do, i already put the foam on the wheel. maybe if i really liked this kit i would get another and mount it on one of their other wheels but truthfully, all i get are burnouts/peelouts wiht these foam tires

xmodaddict: i wasn't beefed by your opinion, you're absolutely entitled to your own opinion and i respect taht, i was jsut stating how i felt about the wheels that came with the foam kit
fusion: i use it on my worn out 13 year old carpet. used to be the typical high pile carpet that was nice and springy....for the first year lol. now it's flat, some of the fibers will still stand up but lost all the springiness. i found that in a straight line, stock slicks work well, they grab hold of the carpet well on take-off but once i start turning, the foams seems to give better grip in that situation.
i tried a lil something, stock slicks up front, foam in rear, the rear dind't slide out but the front gave heavy understeer, so much so that i slammed into my coffee table leg. now, i tried the reverse, foam up front, stock slicks in back and my rear end kept comin out on turns while the foam tires were working wonders trying to keep it in teh direction i want to go.
overall, when it comes to turning, foam wins, but off-the-line traction, stock slicks are much better

2mm lock nuts for the hpi micro rs4. The ones that dragon posted are cheaper in cost but in case they sell out here are the ones from HPI. I just noticed that the ones dragon posted are Silver Aluminum and the ones from HPI are metal. I guessing that the Aluminum ones are lighter in wieght, but any way here is the link.

i think you'll want to stick with a locknut (nut with the nylon inserts). the nylon acts as a locking feature; without that nylon, you'll have a hard time keeping the nuts on.

Please keep us posted cuz I will be making an order from towerhobbies for some stuff and want to know if i should add those in..

The stock lug nuts are not a problem but it would be nice to have metal ones. Some people said that they thought the striped them or that they dont feel secure enuff. It would suck it one of your wheels fell of while going full speed. I dont even want to think of what kind of damage that would cause. Sure the cars are only 50 bucks but what if you put time into modding it out and your car gets smashed. Well that would suck major A**.

hey guys the ones i linked to earlier work great they hold really well and i havnt had a problem yet. also most hobby shops have generic metal nuts you can buy in a pack of 4 i just checked it out today at my own and it was 75 cents with tax. altho the aluminum are noticably lighter.

btw thanks for keep us updated.

OK, I got them the other day and they look and work great. The only problem is you have to find a nut driver to fit them. The Xmod nut driver is too big and just spins once the nut starts to get tight. Other than that, well worth the price!
sessiz10
10-26-2003, 07:38 AM
I'm using a mini z lug driver. Works great and is alot better than the tiny xmods lug driver. Ofcourse it's a lil tight on the nylon xmods nuts, but good with these.
TypeZer0
10-26-2003, 09:33 AM
what size nut driver did you end up using to tighten it?
vtheo
10-26-2003, 01:34 PM
i dont think he did use a driver, look like in the pic that he used a gerber(leathermans are better ;) i got me a wave) so he must have just used the pliers on them, so in other words... use pliers...i think...but it was posted that they were 2mm so maybe a 2mm wrench would do it.

C'mon, 3 bux for 4 M2 lock nuts???
I can get them for 0.4 USD per piece, but I still consider that expensive...
Bad Company
10-26-2003, 02:34 PM
Yeah, I had to use the Gerber to tighten them once they started spinning in the Xmods nut driver. I will order the correct nut driver when I order some more locknuts.

Sorry, on the Team Orion RS4 lug nuts, the colored ones the nut driver size is 4.5mm.
Good luck finding one though. I had to buy a 1/4" nut driver and a 4.5mm Matco socket....Snap-On also sells these, about $8-15 though each.

i sure wouldn't mind a set of metal lugs right now. A friend and I were racing, and I didn't realize, but one of the lugs on the wheels was completely stripped. Mid-driving on a sharp turn my wheel rolledo off, LoL.

Same here, except I had two lug nuts stripped so when I was just driving in the garage the front left and rear right wheels just flew off. Luckily my wheels are painted white so I was able to find them easily :p Currently I'm just using some tech deck grind pegs until I save up some money for alloy lug nuts...

How tight are you putting them? The socket would probably be enough. Where can I find small 2mm sockets?
boxcrash
02-17-2004, 01:40 PM
Not that tight but they are Nylon lock nuts, so you cannot remove them with your fingers.
And you cannot put them on with your fingers.
Non-locknuts on a 6 cell or more(motor other than a 130, etc.)
will spin the nuts off and sling them right off the axle.

I found a cheap 4.5mm nut driver at Tower. Hobbico makes it, and it is only $2.99. I can say that it is much nicer than you'd expect for the price, with a comfortable rubberized handle.
The one thing I have noticed about buying these nut drivers is that you need to have a bench grinder handy, as the driver is too thick to fit in a deep-dish wheel. With stock XMods wheels, it may work as it is, but with Mini-Zs, I had to grind down the outside a bit so it would fit in the wheel. Not a big problem for me, it only took about five minutes to do, but if you don't have a bench grinder or have access to one, then you may have a problem.

If the TRC wrenches address the issue I just mentioned, it would be great. Just make sure they work with Mini-z wheels and you'll be able to sell them to both crowds... :D

Interesting about the driver not fitting.
Actualy I already had a 1/4" nut driver in my toolbox I never use, a craftsman one that came with something along time ago.
Also my one neighboring technician had a 4.5mm deep well Matco 1/4" socket.
He said "Here, I will never use that size. Have it." So I lucked out.
But I did look at prices and see who on the trucks had them in a shallow well, but the deep works great for free so I said I only need a deep really.:D

the first thing i did was run down into my dads workshop and i stole(borrowed) 4 aluminum nuts they work great. i hate the "nylon" lugs they strip to easy and crack.
