View Full Version : My New Overland Bodies Are Done!

Well, the are 98% done...
After what felt like an eternity, I've finished the custom work for my new Land Cruiser & Pajero (http://mini-zracer.com/albums/album92/IMG_0053.sized.jpg) AutoScales! Both have nearly identical setups, only modified to better fit each other respectively. This includes a new roof rack design that first apeared on another very important Overland (http://mini-zracer.com/albums/overlandsvs/DSC00129.sized.jpg) ;) and a newly deisgned light set, inspired by Brinsley's (http://mini-zracer.com/albums/album88/n12.sized.jpg) work;) .

I did not take the "documentary" style pictures of these projects as I found myself more focused on completing them... Both were done at the same time which made alot of the work (http://mini-zracer.com/albums/album93/IMG_0009.sized.jpg) much easier and saved time. As a perfectionist...I have to note that I don't have the right spare tire on the roof rack of the Pajero...a small detail, but bugs me still. This should be resolved as soon as Mini-Z's Overland parts order arrives!

For the roof (http://mini-zracer.com/albums/album93/IMG_0013.sized.jpg) racks (http://mini-zracer.com/albums/album92/IMG_0016.sized.jpg) , the new design consists of only 3 frame members, the mounting screws, screen and small retaining bar at the rear. My goal was to reduce the number of breakable parts and make it more efficient to build. I decided to solder the mounting screws directly inside the main frame member ends that rest on the roof to increase strength and achieve a cleaner look. The new light set (http://mini-zracer.com/albums/album58/IMG_0093.sized.jpg) remains the same except for a redesigned light bar (http://mini-zracer.com/albums/album58/IMG_0094.sized.jpg) using 5mm leds with individual mounting rings then framed togther and a relocated on/off switch (http://mini-zracer.com/albums/album58/IMG_0202.sized.jpg) , now on the battery terminal cap rather than on the roof. I like this much more my original (http://mini-zracer.com/albums/album58/mz157.sized.jpg) light bar. I chose to mount the spare tire (http://mini-zracer.com/albums/album58/IMG_0207.sized.jpg) using a custom screw connection rather than tie down straps on the previous one. I managed to loose a tire already that way:rolleyes: . The spare shocks on each are now held down with zip ties (http://mini-zracer.com/albums/album92/IMG_0217.sized.jpg) in an effort to keep these from flying off during the enevitable rollovers and crashes;) .

So, without further ado...i will show some pictures and await your comments/reviews/suggestions and maybe, questions. I am always looking to improve...

I have Mini-Z Racer, but I'm looking forward to getting an Overland sometime this decade. I babysit(and I know how girly that sounds) but it's sorta' fun and pays well. I need a job to do other times. I need the wisdom of arch2b to help me!!!:DI say this because I have actually seen his album more than once and I'm still not tired of it! I saw it long before I even joined!

i am always available for help or answer questions.... i am always surprised by some of the other cool things members do with their overlands. you can read MUCH more about them in the overland (http://mini-zracer.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=47) section of mini-zracer.com

the roof racks are for sale in the mini-zracer.com shop, i should have light sets available soon as well. i have many resources in gallery such as the wiring diagrams for all my light sets, measurements for roof racks, custom antenna's and a "how to make a roof rack" (http://mini-zracer.com/gallery/roofrackhowto) tutorial;) i fully believe in sharing my work so that others may improve upon it:D

Thanks, arch2b! I have actually seen you and BC before(not in person), and I love your album. I think I saw it on MZracer.com. I remember your light-clad Overlands because I screamed, "DUDE!" and my mom yelled at me.
