Hey all, I've just bought the blue R34 (40mhz aus version) - Should I remove the crippling capacitor? im a bit sceptical about it, because i've heard a few different stories about it from different boards, and i've just bought it, so should i cut it out or not? thanks guys

have you done it to your car? did it increase range? (noticably?)

edit: ok,. ive got it opened up on my desk, the Aus versions seem to have a black, cylindrical-type capacitor (100uF, 10v).. would this be the cap? i untied the knot in the antenna as well... now about 4cm longer than before

this PCB is identical to mine, the cap is there on my car too

Chronic,

I would STRONGLY discourage you from messing with the cripple cap on the PCB...Unless you're EXTREMELY comfortable with micro soldering!

There's plenty of other mods you can do for extending the range...Messing with the cars' PCB is the ABSOLUTE last resort!

AND WHATEVER YOU DO DO NOT MESS WITH THE POTS!!!!! (well do not mess with it a lot) I did and now i have a useless bit char-g (well the only use for it now is for parts) Messing with the pots will screw up your reception and not using the right tuning tool can cause a major headache when you accidentally enlarge the hole. So my advice......stick to the mods you know you can do .....antenna crippler in controller ect.

i went and did it, i just cut the actual capacitor in half and then unsoldered the two pieces.. it was pretty easy, just have to be careful, and i know it sounds dumb but cutting it in half fist made the job a lot simpler

At least you had one to take out...my r34 didnt..and my range is bad as well :(

i took the crippler off of my PCB board a few minutes ago and it had no effect. Does anyone know why?

if i did the cripple mod, would it interfere with other cars if there was multiple people racing?
thats kinda whats stopping me from doing that..
if not...then off it goes :D

yep. it would definately interfere with other cars if you were racing near people with the same frequency as you. That is what the crippler was made to do, to prevent the interference between cars of the same frequency when they are being raced in the same room or area
